Cortana notifications don’t work until I open Notebook. Posted: 17 Feb 2018 05:09 PM PST I contacted Microsoft about this, and apparently I have to pay for something called 'Assure' if I want it fixed by them, remotely. Essentially, I can use Cortana fine for everything but reminders - I can set them and view them, but I won't get the actual reminder when it's due. However, if I then open up Cortana's reminders, I get the notification - this means that if I don't open Cortana's reminder section in the notebook for a few days, I get an immediate barrage of old reminders. The reminders work fine on my phone and tablet, it's just my PC. I then checked my settings - I have 'allow apps to use calendar and reminders' (paraphrasing) turned off for some reason. I figured this may be stopping Cortana, so I tried to turn it on, but it then just opened Cortana with 'maybe later' and 'settings' options. Maybe later is useless and settings just takes me back to general windows security settings. This is infuriating because Cortana is saving the notifications, and is able to view them. It just won't notify me. The Windows 10 support tech said it is because of a 'corrupted' Cortana, but I don't know what to do with that information. TL;DR - Cortana won't notify me of my reminders, unless I open it first. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 12:38 PM PST I just put this laptop together and installed Windows 7 on it, but it has no drivers installed. So I can't use install the network driver via USB, nor download the USB drivers off the internet. How would I go about doing this without the use of a CD drive? Edit: I have Windows 7 on a disk, but I dont have the drivers on a CD. Also, this laptop only has USB 3.0 ports. Here is a pic of the Device Manager with expanded sections: https://photos.app.goo.gl/cmsy5IEfi5cpbNpq1 [link] [comments] |
Macro to launch programs and snap them onto the screen? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 01:07 PM PST So I find myself working with a particular desktop configuration a lot and I was wondering if there was a way to set up a keyboard macro to do everything automatically. I generally have two bash terminals, one on the top left and one on the bottom left, and sublime text on the right side. I know you can set a shortcut key under the program properties and you can individually snap windows using the window and arrow keys but is there a way I could combine everything into one macro? After last update, windows laptop crash when going to sleep. Posted: 17 Feb 2018 11:25 AM PST Since the last week's cumulative update, my Dell latitude e7470 keeps shutting down whenever I close the lid instead of going to sleep. Same behaviour happens when power button is pressed. At first it seems to go to sleep but then it shutdown/crash. All advanced power settings are ok(sleep on power button, sleep on lid close etc.) In the event viewer I get these messages: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. The previous system shutdown at 12:24:13 PM on 2/17/2018 was unexpected. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 04:37 PM PST After purchasing Windows 10 pro from the Microsoft Store, I went to install it and got the error saying "Something Happened and we couldn't start the upgrade." I have tried logging off and on, restarting, and clearing store cache, all without much luck. Please advise on other things I could try to fix the issue. Thanks!! [link] [comments] |
I have a really old Windows 7, how can i improve framerate in games safely? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 05:35 PM PST I don't want to take a shot in the dark and download any sketchy program off the internet. For example, Sonic Utopia plays at about 10fps, and even 30fps would be fine at least. Is it just not able to? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a Text-To-Speech Software Posted: 17 Feb 2018 09:41 AM PST I am looking for a nice and smooth, free or buyable text-to-speech software for Windows. The software should be able to read PDFs and should support voices for at least English and German. Google gives me just so many results and the ones I have tried so far, are not fluent / natural enough. Any recommendations? [link] [comments] |
Can't boot from burned Iso. Error 0xc000185 Posted: 17 Feb 2018 09:05 AM PST I'm on Win 8.1 and I burned Win 10 clean install to DVD+R. When I boot from that disk I get error 0xc000185 [link] [comments] |

Posted: 17 Feb 2018 08:21 AM PST 50% of the time I start my pc I get the black loding screen with the blue windows and it wont start up. Ive tried system repair but it can't find a problem, and when I tried bootrec /fixboot in command prompt it gave me access denied. Any help? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 08:15 AM PST I recently had to factory reset my HP Desktop. It came with Windows 8.1 when I purchased it back in 2012. I had gotten the free upgrade to Win 10 but, that feature ended at the end of 2017. So I am unable to upgrade for free again and not willing to pay $100+ for an OS I wasn't too fond of. So what I'm asking is Windows 7 the better OS to go with? Not a fan of how the desktop and features work with Win 8. EDIT: Was unaware that i could still get 10 without paying. Thanks for all of the suggestions. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 12:32 PM PST I've been trying to fix this computer of mine for a few months now. All the parts I bought for it were brand new. The problem is that I am unable to download updates of any kind on things like steam, and when trying to download something on google chrome I get a message that says "failed network errror". I am also unable to download any windows updates, as I am given a random error message that I look up and try to solve for hours but never seem to be able to do so, or graphics driver updates. Another weird thing that happens is when I hold left click and drag the mouse across my desktop, sometimes the screen will turn a random glitchy color. This goes away after about a minute, but I'm not sure why it happens. Also, when launching a game (when I've been able to download it), a very loud screeching noise is made, and I have no idea what that is either. Also, most programs crash within minutes of being opened. If anyone can tell me how to fix these problems that would be great. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 06:43 PM PST For the past few days the service Delivery optimisation has been tanking my network when I boot my computer for 30-60 minutes every day and I have no idea how to stop it. I've tried rebooting, disabling Windows update service, turning on and off Windows auto updates and turning off Microsoft store updates. I also noticed whenever this happens Windows auto updates turns itself on after I've disabled Windows update in regedit but clearly that didn't work. I have Windows 10 Home 64-bit Picture(imgur) [link] [comments] |
Windows won’t start, stuck automatic repair/troubleshoot Posted: 17 Feb 2018 05:44 PM PST Last night everything was working fine and then when I tried to turn on my computer today it went to the 'ran in to an issue' screen. I tried everything in the advanced options section and it didn't work. When I tried to reset my computer completely it said it ran in to a problem and couldn't reset. I haven't downloaded anything weird that I know of. (last thing was Darksouls 3 through Steam) . I really don't know what to do at this point. If any one could help me I would appreciate it a lot. I don't have the windows disk or USB btw which kind of sucks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 05:32 AM PST When booting up my Win10 desktop PC today I was greeted by this lovely screen thats been running for hours already, tried force-rebooting it, unplugging all USB ports (which includes a wifi adapter I use to get internet at my current location), and resetting the power completely Theres no percentage bar or anything indicating something happening, I can only imagine there was some system update or something that caused this shit, even though it hasnt told me theres been any updates since 2 days ago. This happened overnight as Ive been using it no problemo for the past whole week, including yesterday, and installed no new programs or anything for the past few days :( Is anyone else having any similar problem with what Im assuming is the latest updates?? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 02:40 AM PST I have Win7 and Office 2016, windows is up to date, however, I haven't received updates for office. I don't even see the option to download "other MS products" updates anymore. Version installed 16.0.4266.1001. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Read only problem on multiple folders Posted: 17 Feb 2018 03:39 PM PST It looks like I'm having a similar problem as this person. I have many folders, such as the Desktop, with the read only box being filled in, instead of being checked. In Windows Security Center, controlled folder access is turned off, and if I "unfill in" the box, the folder just goes right back to being read only. I completely turned off virus and threat protection on the security center but with the same results. I did a restart but that also didn't help. Has anyone got a fix for this? Or should I just reinstall windows...? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 03:23 PM PST I have a microsoft brand Xbox 360 USB receiver that I cannot get to to work. I can't seem to figure out how to update or install the drivers and it keeps telling me it cannot find any. This is what my device manager looks like. Everywhere I read said it should come up as "Unknown Device" Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 09:51 AM PST I'm new to Windows, coming from Mac OS, and I have some large game files that I would like to move from my C: drive to my D: drive. I've tried to type the name of the game into the search bar but nothing close to the size of a game comes up, just some save files and such, nothing over a few KB. I'm looking for the main file/folder that holds the 50+ Gb file that is taking up so much space. There is clearly something I don't understand about how Windows handles these files. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 01:03 AM PST I have an old notebook, so I want to periodically monitor my hardware temperature to see if I'm stressing it too much. I've tried using HwMonitor and OpenHardwareMonitor, but both software on startup show a lot of data for each component. I want a software that lets me set up that, on startup, I only see the temperature of the various components, and ONLY IF/WHEN I'm interested in seeing other data (Usage, Clock, Power, etc.), it lets me see them by clicking somewhere. What I mean is: The software lets me click on the "minus" icon if I want to minimize a specific info (Eg. Cpu usage rate). I hate this, since 99% of the time I only want to check temperature, and I have to scan through lots of info to see what I'm looking for. [link] [comments] |
