I just bought a 'new' Nexus 6. Anyone else still got a phone they just can't move past?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:26 AM PST

I recently dropped my Nexus 6 and smashed the screen. Really it was about time I replaced the guy as the charging plug was getting loose and it was just worn down in general. I looked into what new phones I could get for around the same price (£200).

I was looking into the Moto G5 Plus and coincidentally one of my co-workers got one. Of course, it is smaller than my Nexus 6 and the screen and camera are worse. So I've just ordered a second hand Nexus 6 in pristine condition from eBay (and a case this time!).

I just can't move past this phone, it's my dream come true. I wanted it the second it was announced. The screen is beautiful, the speakers are loud as hell. I haven't seen any phone I want more. My little brother just got one a couple weeks back since he saw how much I loved mine, and he now feels the same. All other phones feel minuscule. The battery and lack of expandable storage aren't ideal but they're so rarely real issues for me.

I'm curious if anyone else is running an old phone and doesn't have any interest in 'upgrading' or changing it. This will be my third Nexus 6 (odds of dropping a huge slab of glass multiply when you're drunk - whoops!). I've never felt the same way about any other - had a Blackberry, an iPhone 4 & 5S followed by a Moto G3 before this.

    Is RCS for everyone doomed?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2018 11:55 AM PST

As you may have heard, Google has announced that they have partnered with 43 carriers and manufacturers. Seen here: https://www.blog.google/topics/rcs/partnering-mobile-industry-connect-people-and-businesses-rcs/

Some people have been saying "There goes 'iMessage' for Android, thanks Google." But how true is this? I mean, we have seen evidence in the code of a recent update of that app that it either goes through your carrier (one of the 43) or through Jibe. This being said, if you don't have one of those carriers, it should go through Jibe, right? I'm just hoping Google does something about it, and pushes it to everyone somehow. Any thoughts?

tldr: Google partnered with 43 carriers, so most people gave up on it coming to everyone, but should we?

EDIT: also, why doesn't Project Fi support it? seems like it should
