[DEV]*FREE* Android App That Vibrates Incoming Texts In Morse Code

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 01:24 AM PST

    Hey guys/girls,

    We made Morse.

Morse is an app that allows you to read your texts without ever taking your phone out of your pocket.

What Morse does is it takes an incoming text message, converts it into morse code, then vibrates your phone in morse code.

It comes pre packaged with an integrated learning environment that will allow you to learn morse code in under 30 minutes!!!

It is also good if you want to be a like a ninja

We had lots of fun making this, and we hope that you love this app as much as we do!!

From all of us at Fractyl Development.

    Our official reddit is /u/FractylDev

Official link to the google play store Morse.

Has anyone tried Brevent or other open source greenify alternatives?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 07:37 AM PST

Hi, I just came across this greenify alternative (FOSS). But there are only like 4000 reviews. What's the opinion on this sub of the app. Alternately, are there other better alternatives for improving battery life and responsivity?

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.piebridge.brevent&hl=en

Also, weirdly, it's foss according to XDA but I couldn't find it on FDroid.

    [DEV] ATMS - Fitness Tracker

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 08:05 AM PST

    Features the App brings:

    • Tracks nutrients i.e calories, protein etc
    • Tracks water intake
    • Food diary can retrieve information from database.
    • Or food can be added manually
    • Foods can be saved to avoid having to search again.
    • Log your exercises with the exercise mode.
    • Multiple workout routines can be saved and selected for exercise mode.

    So why ATMS?

    • 1. It will remain free (Yeah really)
    • 2. Very little information is collected (Only some to identify crashes)
    • 3. No ads are used yet.
    • 4. No account required.

How our app differentiates from others? This was asked by a fellow redditor, so let me just paste you my answer.

    Hello *******,

That's a good question indeed, allow me to try and answer this for you.

    • First let me begin by saying that my app is not just a calorie tracker, its a "Fitness Tracker" this basically means that it will have multiple features which you can use to track your fitness in one app. These features include:

    • Track foods consumed

    • Store your workout plans.

    • Log your exercises (weights lifted etc)

    • There are a few more features which I will be implementing as soon as the first public version is out, these include integration with Google Fit, android wear and fitness band support etc

    • Moving on, one of the main motivations for me creating this app was that various other competitors charged hefty subscriptions for some basic VIP features (I am a student, and only have a part-time job, hence budget is minimal) whether that is to track other nutrients like carbs and fat or provide them "priority customer support", which In my opinion is just not worth the money. Again nothing wrong with this strategy, they are a business after all. But the main disadvantage is that this completely side steps the other group which is the non payers. What does that mean? Well, first it means that non payers cannot track other important nutrients such as fats, which is extremely important due to the health implications which can be caused by over consuming this nutrient, therefore non payers have an increased risk of health implications of eating too many fats. Secondly, they are giving more priority to a certain group, therefore what they implement will benefit them more. Whilst, my aim is to provide for the whole group as one, whether that be features or excellent and quick customer support.

    • Another thing which I believe that sets my app out from the crowd is that the developer/founder (me) is a fitness enthusiast who uses the app on a daily bases. This means, that I share similar experiences with my users, hence the app is more likely to get relevant features (which people want) and get rid of things people hate about apps like sensitive data collection and annoying ads.

    • The last thing I'd like to say is that my apps aim is to Help users get healthier therefore expect to see various features implemented to fulfil this goal, e.g. a blog, daily fitness and health related tips, a forum to discuss experiences (which I will be a regular contributor of) and just a place to provide motivation for each other.

Thanks for reading and sorry for making this so long (was meant to be short lol).

So there you have it, why not take a look and send me some feedback :)

Check out our privacy policy on our website: https://atmsfitnesstrackerapp.wordpress.com/privacy-policy/

    Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=thedevelopera.android.com.fitnesstracker&hl=en

What the next update will bring?

    • Now that the app is out, some of the code itself will be rewritten, why so soon? Well I did start the creation of the app in July of 2016 and I have slowly progressed. Being a student myself I don't always get enough time to do the work hence why it has been a slow but fun development. Anyway since then I have learnt a lot about coding apps and this update will fix various performance issues, whilst making it easier to maintain the app, which will mean more frequent updates.

If you have any questions, just post below.

App so I can hangout with my dad?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2018 10:06 PM PST

My dad is in the senior housing. I just want a way for him to see me while I am at work and me to see him. And of course talk now and then. Like hanging out together in the same room but doing our own thing. So he isn't so lonely.

Cellular data limit per [XX] minutes

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:40 AM PST

I'm trying to find an app which warns me about large cellular data usage in a short amount of time. I imagine it like setting up a limit which include specific data size and amount of time (for example, 50MB per 10 minutes). It could save me from situations when I watch videos or download stuff and forget to connect to WiFi. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Network drive for android?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 08:38 AM PST

Hey everyone. I want to keep this short and sweet, so does anybody know an app that will attach my google drive account as a folder on the actual device, in the form of a network drive, so it doesn't physically download things, but steams them, like a windows network drive would. I've tried filesync but that downloads my items.

    Thanks everyone.

[DEV] Show off photos safely with Secure Photo Viewer

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:57 AM PST

Have you ever handed over your phone to someone just so they can see the latest meme or the cool picture you took? I have made a way to do this without being concerned what they will do on your phone. With this app, they will only be able to see what you select.

Get it on the Play Store!

    How to use:

    • Make sure that you have some kind of lock screen. Pin, Password, Fingerprint, whatever
    • Go to your gallery, select some photos or videos and tap share.
    • Select the Secure Photo Viewer

And you are done! As soon as you press your lock button, the photos will pop up. Your friends won't be able to get into your phone until you unlock it again.

If you have any questions or feedback feel free to post it here!

I want to remove SD card permission from an app

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:52 AM PST

Google Photos keeps having bugs because of my SD-card content and nothing helps. It works fine if I remove the card, but I can't remove storage permissions from it as it needs to access internal storage. I don't have root, but ADB. Can I somehow remove the SD-read permissions from this package?

An app that works like Flipboard (on homescreen) on the old Samsung phones?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:13 AM PST

Hello everyone, just upgraded from my 3T to a 5T, and I'm still not a fan of the shelf on the homescreen. Is there a way to get a homescreen news page added kind of how Flipboard worked on Galaxy S5/6? Even if it's a large widget, I just want to be able to swipe across to the news page whenever I want, thank you!

Need an email app that syncs better with Exchange than Gmail app

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 09:40 AM PST

I just switched from an iPhone and it synced so beautifully and instantly with Exchange between my phone and Outlook desktop. I could mark emails read or delete them and the changes would appear within a minute on the other device. My favorite part was I could mark an email read on my desktop and watch the notification on my phone disappear from the lock screen. This is not the case using Gmail app...

With my Pixel 2 the changes take 1-5 minutes to reflect on the other device, 1/2 the time the emails are still marked as Read, and if I mark an email read on my desktop it does not remove the notification or the counter on the Gmail icon my Pixel 2.

I have sync turned on to Automatic (Push) but it's just not working that well. Are there any email apps that DO work as well as the default mail app on iPhones? I hear Nine is good but can't find if it syncs better than the Gmail app with Exchange, or if this is just the limitation of Android.

Android .... Chromebook ... RSS Offline reader that SYNCS... Am I asking too much?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 09:32 AM PST

Perhaps the perfect solution is out there and I just haven't found it, but... I'm looking for a simple RSS reader with Offline mode I could use on my Nexus 6p that I could also use on my Chromebook Pro while at home. Important for me is the ability to SYNC. I've had lots of issues with Feedly over the years never synching content properly, meaning I constantly see articles I've already read on one device when I start to use the other.

So what are your favorites? Does Feedly synching work better for you than me? Also of note I've found some Feedly clients quite clunky with bad offline support. BY FAR my favorite RSS reader I've found is called Reader:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.read.app

Problem here is: no syncing between my devices!

True first world problem, I know... Would be interested in getting other suggestions!
