    Should I get a Galaxy s7 in early 2018?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 05:04 PM PST

I currently have an HTC M8 that works and is bent all over but will occasionally just hard-crash and it's a pain in the ass to get it up and running again. Basically I think it's near the end of its life, but does work.

I got offered a deal to keep my current plan which is perfect for me and get a new Galaxy s7 for $360(CAD) total ($15/mo for 2 years).

I like the phone, kinda disappointed in microUSB but still have a million cables, wish a had a bit better speaker but nbd.

    Whattaya think? TIA

    Edit: Canadian loonies

G Maps no default traffic !

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 06:47 PM PST

Since updating Google maps I can't find a way to keep "traffic" on ? Every time I open maps I have to manually select it again. Is there an option somewhere to select this always on because I can't find that option.

Are there any single player games out there with endless gameplay and no ads?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 01:10 PM PST

Looking for something endearing to occupy me while I'm at work

My wifi blocks most games, so no ads is necessary not to kill my data

Would like it to not have any in the moment multiplayer as well, as I frequently have to drop my phone to do work.

I'm cool with dropping a few dollars on the right game.

Is there a way to not say "Ok Google" every sentence?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 12:45 PM PST

For example I want to create a shopping list and my hands are busy.

The conversation goes something like this

"Ok Google, create a shopping list"

    "Ok Google, add milk"

    "Ok Google, add bread"

    "Ok Google..." -- stop.

I don't want to say Ok Google everytime. Is there another way to do it? Can't the uhh voice assistant listen to me until I tell it to stop? Or am I technologically illiterate😪

I'm using Samsung Galaxy S7 if that helps?

Is it safe to sell a phone locked with a passcode/fingerprint without hard resetting it?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 10:12 PM PST

The reason I ask is I broke the screen on my LG G5 a while back and it no longer displays an image (touch input doesn't work either). I intend to try and hard reset it but it is possible it won't work. I can try and reset it via Android device manager, but again, I don't know if the phone is connected to any network.

Also, will resetting the phone via Android device manager cause any issues for the buyer (like iCloud locking would)

If whoever I sell it to fixes the display, is it possible (or likely) they will be able to access any data on the phone? As mentioned above the phone is locked with a passcode/fingerprint.

If anyone has any other ideas for resetting the phone I'd love to hear them

Really appreciate any help from the community.

    Disable Vibrate On Charge

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 10:10 PM PST

Whenever I plug my phone to charge, there would be a vibration for a split second. It's for most Androids, but is there a way to disable this? I have root.

GMAIL message recipient address not "auto completing"

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 06:00 PM PST

I convinced my wife to switch from Apple and her shiny new Pixel 2 XL is perfect.. EXCEPT.. this crazy glitch in the Gmail app.. when you compose a message, the app does not (auto complete) the recipient address..

I tried nearly everything (i think) checked contact permissions, remove accounts and re-add), restart/ re sync. IDK..

she is thinking about returning phone and going to Apple just because of this..

Why does YouTube shut down for high temp, but Netflix and Plex run fine?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 10:50 PM PST

About 30 minutes into watching YouTube videos, the app will close out and I'll get the high temp warning. If I try and open it back up, the warning comes up again. I can then open Netflix or Plex and watch them for hours with no issue and comparable temp in CPU-Z (though I don't know if that's a reliable app to check temp)

Why only YouTube? Is there any way to disable or change it so I can watch YouTube longer?

Using google now commands for third party music apps?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 10:41 PM PST

I've been using Player Pro for... maybe 6 years now because I haven't found anything better. It's okay, it does what it needs to do.

One thing I recently realized is that when I ask google now "Play so and so song by so and so artist" he tells me I haven't set a default app to initiate this command. When I go into setting he tell me I can use Google Play Music, and... nothing else. I tried to install Pi Music Player and Pulsar, in case it was just a problem with PPro. But again... he doesn't see any of them. Is this a problem on the music players end, and if so, are there any music players that have added the code that makes this sort of command possible? Or is it a problem on Google's end and they're just forcing you to use the default apps?

When my Note 5 is connected to my wifi, my router crashes nonstop

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 06:54 PM PST

Basically I have a galaxy note 5 on verizion, and whenever I am connected to my home wifi the router crashes constantly. If I pull up a youtube video on my android phone its crashing 99/100 times.

The internet and wifi works fantastic on my many devices when my phones wifi is off, but turn it on and its a disaster. I factory reset my phone like a month ago and it got a little better. But recently has gotten much worse. I tried factory reseting my phone twice and no improvement.

    Any suggestions ?

Thank you so much for any help !

Hi, I'm coming here for a question. My Google Pixel keeps getting its music interrupted by Google voice whenever I put in headphones through the Aux port. I have turned off Google Voice and Google Now and the problem still persists. Has anyone else had this problem? Have you found any fixes?

I changed one setting in dev options and now my phone is a brick and FRP Lock is on, please help

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 05:30 PM PST

So for some ungodly reason I unticked "Allow OEM Unlock" in dev options (don't ask why) though I have a rooted phone. So now I guess my phone thinks the OEM isn't authorized so it doesn't allow me to boot, and to make it worse FRP Lock is on so I can't boot to recovery (I'm pretty sure I can't, if I can that would be crazy helpful)

I can go to the screen where it says "Downloading" but I tried flashing a stock android OEM that I found and Odin hasn't wanted to flash it for some reason.

My phone is a Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925P) and it was running 7.0.0.

I'm heartbroken idiot. I factory reset my phone, and forgot to save my photos.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 02:35 AM PST

Most of my photos are complete crap, but I had some on there from when my mom came to visit me and it's only the third time that she ever got to be with the grandkids. These were the only photos of them together. I don't know if she'll be able to come visit again. I've been meaning to clean out my phone because I've been having storage problems, and then laying in bed late at night unable to sleep and exhausted off my ass, I sat there and pulled the trigger and factory reset my f****** phone, and forgot to upload my photos first. I see a lot of things out there that look like scams to help you recover photos after a factory reset. Is it even possible to do?

How to add onscreen navbar on Samsung S7?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 09:02 PM PST

So my 5X recently bootlooped and I decided to pull the trigger on a refurbished S7, but aside from the different fingerprint sensor location which I will have to get used to, another issue of mine is the hardware buttons, which I would prefer not to use if possible.

I do plan to root the pre-installed Android Nougat with Magisk after installing TWRP, so is there any way for me to add the navbar onscreen and disable the hardware buttons?

Why is this happening to my phone?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 08:41 PM PST

https://youtu.be/KZEp2-TNr2Y It was only first noticeable on white backgrounds sometimes, now it's always doing this. Is this a loose connection or something? I haven't dropped it recently.

It is a Samsung Galaxy j7 SM j700t. How much would this cost to repair?

searching for a lightweight/stripped-down os version?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 11:34 AM PST

Hi! I'm pretty new to the Android ecosystem, but recently came into possession of a couple pretty-much-new 2012 nexus 7s running Android 5.1.1. I don't want to do very much with them at all (take pictures/video and check email) but they run remarkably slowly, much moreso than I would have expected. My coworker went ahead and updated one all the way, and now it's pretty much unusable.

I know for a fact that these tablets were lightly used for no more than a month, and since then were just sitting in boxes in a lab cabinet for five years until we found them. My intuition is that the hardware should still be fine, and that OS update/upgrade bloat is what's slowing them down. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a slim, lightweight, no-frills OS (either stock or custom, I don't care) that I could flash onto the device to improve performance? It seems silly to have to buy a new tablet when these look fine and I'm not exactly a power user at all. Thanks!

Clicked on a link in gmail from my S8

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 04:31 PM PST

    Hey all,

I had a email from a friend with a weird link. I foolishly clicked on it and it took me to a site in Chrome about a Shark Tank weight loss pill. I returned to the email and saw that though it was my friends name, it has a weird email address that appears to be from Belgium. I ran Avast and deleted the email. Avast said i was good. Should i still be worried? I deleted my bank app out of paranoia. If anything I am only worried about Chrome.

    Oreo Default App help

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 01:59 PM PST

I am having trouble finding the correct default app to fix my problem. Here's how it started. I was trying to open a .doc attachment in chrome and it popped up with the deafult app chooser because i needed to install word.

i installed word and then tried to open the attachment again i clicked always on the default app chooser but it was for word (install) link not word itself.

now every time i open a word document it takes me to the play store to install Word. I've cleared the app defaults for google play, google play services, Word, even chrome and it still takes me to the play store.

when ever i click the link it opens a tab, app? in my app switcher called word(install) and then goes to play store i don't see any thing in default apps for any Microsoft services or Office like it appears to be doing.

any help would be appreciated, i just want to be able to open my word documents.

    Thanks

Need help deciding on a new phone.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 11:08 AM PST

After some research I have found some different alternatives, but I cannot decide. I was hoping this community could give me some guidance.

I want a minimum 5.5" inch phone, snappy as hell, so my finalists are:

Samsung Note 8 - eventhough I am skeptical to Samsung and their bloat, it is a good phone.

Huawei 10 Pro - Nice screen, the learning chip is interesting.

Lg V30 - again a nice screen, seems to work well, however Ive had issues with LG in the past.

Xiaomi Mi mix 2 - So sexy, hard not to fall in love with it.

I was looking at the HTC U11+, but for some reason I dont want a HTC again. I remember my two first android phones were HTC, probably why..

I currently have the Nokias 6, which has turned to an utter disappointment. My long lost longing for Nokia died after 1 month with this phone. So slow, bad battery, slow camera. Although the sound for music is pretty good.

edit: I mostly use my phone for email for work, and chatting on different apps and scrolling reddit. I watch some videos and play alot of music. I never play on the phone, since I dont really play any games. I have tons off apps for travel, bank, coins ect. I usually have around 3-6hours of SOT every day.

I never use the google assistant functions, since I dont like my phone being able to listen an watch me when I dont want to. Paranoid, probably, but still my phone and I would like to think I am in control of it. ;)

    Anyway to lock wallpaper rotation?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 07:49 PM PST

So I've been out of the android game for a while and recently purchased a new android tablet and I can't seem to get my wallpaper to stop rotating. I honestly don't remember this being an issue years ago, and googling for a solution has really only shown me several years old threads that all recommend a single app that doesn't seem to be available on the app store at this point.

So, I come to you for help: is there any way for me to lock the wallpaper (only) so that when the rest of the screen rotates my wallpaper doesn't?
