Boot and stutter problem. SSD seems fine? Posted: 09 Jan 2018 03:06 AM PST This all started with one of my fans buzzing, I took apart my PC, as I am fairly familiar with putting it back together. I cleaned my fans and everything else, slowly and carefully put it back together and started it up, had an issue with the CPU fan being connected to a 4-pin slot instead of a 3-pin which I simply readjusted and that's about it. It worked fine. When I put it back together I started using it again, I use it mostly for Browsing, Gaming (CSGO & Overwatch, other games from time to time too), and Video and photo editing inside Sony Vegas and Photoshop. The first problem that started happening is my windows takes too much to load considering it is on an SSD, takes around 2-3 minutes, when I bought it it was around 5 seconds boot time, and after a few months of use it went up to like 10-15 seconds, but never this long. The second problem that started happening which is much more annoying is my games started freezing like mid game for a few seconds it would just freeze and then unfreeze a few seconds later. This happened ONCE out of game but the freeze was nowhere near as long. I still haven't tested if inputs go trough while this is going on. So my logical conclusion was that the SSD was failing but I've tested it and it seems to be healthy. AS SSD Benchmark test. So now I'm wondering if it is an SSD problem, any ideas on how to check if the SSD is failing in any other way? I have also considered the possibility that the SSD is fine but the graphics card is the one causing the stuttering, but that wouldn't explain the boot problem. So maybe Graphics Card issue and a bad copy of windows? Or maybe some other software related issue plus the graphics card failing? I have tried updating everything in Device Manager and also did google searches before posting here, I didn't find anything helpful. Any ideas on what to check/fix are welcome. Here's the list of the PC's compnenets, without the RAM which is DIMM DDR3 2x8GB 2400MHz Kingston HyperX Savage TL:DR PC slow to boot with SSD even though SSD benchmark is fine (check pic above), and games have freezes of 3-5 seconds, considered it might be a graphics card issue + software related issue making it slow to boot [link] [comments] |
Could a faulty socket damage the motherboard? Posted: 09 Jan 2018 04:07 AM PST Yo all. My laptop stopped charging. I replaced the battery, which switched the laptop back on - but as soon as it ran down, it stopped working again. I've tested a different charger too. It's the socket which is somehow broken. The technicians ive given it to say the motherboard has short circuited: the faulty socket has gone on to cause a problem there. Is that likely? It's not what I was expecting, and im now super worried. Pls can haz reassurance that that is a likely chain of events, and not just the technicians making things up? Crackling audio (distortion) on the left side of headphones Posted: 09 Jan 2018 04:06 AM PST So I purchased a pair of ATH-M50x last summer to make create better mixes when producing music. They've been doing great apart from one thing. When I turn up the volume in bass heavy tracks they start producing a crackling sound on the left side. For a while I've been blaming my bass mixing, but now I've realized that it's not the problem. Listening to this track for example starts producing that same sound when I turn up the SoundCloud volume over about 60%. I wanted to see if the problem was with the headphones, so I plugged them into my OnePlus 5T. Played the same track at max volume without any audio equalizing on, and that sound WAS NOT there. So, what is the problem here exactly? Is it my soundcard? I'm using Realtek HD Audio Manager, without any EQ. What should I do? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Unale to Fix Bad sectors and reformat a NEW DISK Posted: 09 Jan 2018 04:00 AM PST Operating SystemWindows 10 Model of HDD, SSD, or other storage deviceToshiba 1TB HDD Data recovery budgetNONE Physical damageNo Importance of dataImportant Active BackupsNew Disk so none S.M.A.R.T. Posted: 09 Jan 2018 03:47 AM PST Hello, So the problem I'm facing that in some games (maybe 50% of the games) I play, this happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfWGiWq1pcU (iPhone Slow-mo footage, 2X speed to see it better) I have GTX1080 & ASUS PG279Q monitor, the problem happens with both GSYNC On and Off. Other things I have tried include multiple GPU Drivers, re-installing chipset drivers, testing my RAM, trying different monitor cables, different settings in nvidia control panel (max power, max pre-rendered frames, shader cache on/off). I'm willing to PayPal/Buy a game for someone that can figure out a solution for this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2018 03:42 AM PST I get the bloody message. I don't want this pop-up to interrupt whatever I'm doing (lost 30 minutes of effort in my paint.net work). I can't find a relevant setting about turning this bugger off except for "change product key". Does anyone know how to stop it from appearing to my screen? It's Windows 10 Professional. I thought it's malware or virus but scan shows negative. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2018 03:36 AM PST I only use it to play older AAA titles or newer, less graphic intensive Indie titles (since it has a GTX 560m in it), but I was curious if installing more RAM and an SSD (or any other suggestions you might have) would even do much of anything to allow the machine to keep on trucking after all these years. PC's are expensive, and I don't have the room (or the $$$) to purchase and build my own desktop rig, so I'm hoping there's some things I can do to keep this machine going for as long as possible. It's becoming more and more sluggish as the years tick by, and I've done all I can software wise (through literally dozens of hours of researching online, since I'm no tech guru and I don't know anyone) [link] [comments] |
Monitor has white spots after mounting it via vesa mount Posted: 08 Jan 2018 04:14 PM PST Pic: https://imgur.com/a/B7ACW Is there anything I can do? This happened after mounting it using a dual monitor stand. It pulled the plastic shell making the IO in the back covered so that I had to press on the shell hard to get the dvi and power cord in. new GPU, thread stuck in device driver, Windows 10, RX 580 Posted: 09 Jan 2018 03:09 AM PST Operating SystemWindows 10 Computer Specs (PSU, GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard)PSU: Xilence 550 Watt GPU: Sapphire RX 580CPU: Intel i5-4670K (not overclocked) RAM: 8GB Mainboard: MSI h81m-p33 Speccy Linkhttp://speccy.piriform.com/results/ZniIK8DrjNOdHmwdmNAyLc7 Description of problemGot a new GPU, the RX 580 from Sapphire, upgraded from R9 280x. After replacing the GPU, the computer boots and after starting up windows, i get a bluescreen "thread_stuck_in_device_driver". So i went to safe mode, used DDU to deinstall the old AMD drivers, rebooted. Without drivers, the GPU runs normally, obv with bad resolution and Windows doesnt detect the correct GPU.After installing new drivers, i instantly get the "thread_stuck_in_device_driver" blue screen again. Then i reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows 10, same stuff after autoupdate installs AMD drivers. So, now the tricky part. I did sent the RX 580 back where i bought it from, and got a replacement. And now the exactly same thing is happening again. First i thought it must be the GPUs fault, but now im not quite sure anymore. So i again replaced the RX 580 with my old R9 280x, and everything works just fine. Spilled tea on my laptop and have trackpad problems. Posted: 09 Jan 2018 02:12 AM PST Hi, A few weeks ago I accidentally spilled tea on my new laptop, I turned it off and placed it upside down to let gravity do it's work. But after turning it back on, whenever I have my trackpad activated I can move the cursor but I can't click (even if using a mouse ), I believe that the right click button under my trackpad is constantly activated... I've been searching for a way to deactivate it but I can't find any. Can anybody tell me how to fix this button, or how to completely deactivate the right click button without also doing it to the trackpad ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2018 02:10 AM PST The tv I'm using is a 60" Sony Model KF-60WE610 TV from 2004 along with a PS4 slim. I purchased an HDMI2AV upscaler in an attempt to get PS4 on my older tv. I tried many different things to get the PS4 to work on the tv but nothing worked so I thought the box was defective, i then tried to plug the hdmi up to my laptop, and bam it works. So it isn't a defective box, and I already tried putting the PS4 in safe mode to get it to load up at the lowest resolution possible, and that still didn't work. I recently broke my HDTV so instead of buying a new tv I would like to try to get PS4 on my older tv. If you guys can give me any other ideas to try to get this to work that would be great. If not I can probably just trade this tv for a smaller HDTV. [link] [comments] |

Sleep mode issues with new build Posted: 09 Jan 2018 01:41 AM PST I've recently upgraded my motherboard, cpu and ram, I was having a separate issue where my wifi USB adapter wasn't working despite reinstalling all the drivers and everything else in the cd and someone recommended that I put my pc in sleep mode then wake it, previously I had to do this for my speakers before the upgrade to get them to function, however now with my new build when I try to wake I can hear my pc trying to power up, but it never does, it just stops eventually and tries again, the only way to fix this currently is to hold the power button, even the on the back of my pc won't fix it. Could this perhaps be something in my bios? I'm not sure what else could it be. My new build is a I5 6600, gigabyte B250m Ds3h and I switched to 8gb of Ddr4 ram [link] [comments] |
i5-3470 won't display an image working with a GTX 670. Posted: 09 Jan 2018 01:33 AM PST This i5's predecessor, an i3-2100, displays the desktop through the 670 fine when it is put in. I know both chips work and the 670 is perfect. I'm thinking I have an out of date bios for the proprietary M-ITX motherboard I'm using. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Pc does not send signal to monitors Posted: 08 Jan 2018 04:48 PM PST Hello! I'd love to get some help because i'm at the end of my wits here. My pc was working fine yesterday, but after a night of being off it doesn't send a video signal anymore. Everything else appears to work fine. Changing monitor, cable or input type doesn't work. Changing from gpu to mobo also does nothing. So i know it's not my gpu or monitor/cable. I tried unplugging my pc and holding the power button for a minute, still nothing. Taking out ram 1 by 1 and changing sockets also no difference. Lastly i tried removing my cmos battery and leaving it out for a while, still no change. Im beginning to think my motherboard is the problem but i'd like it if it wasn't. Does anyone have any more suggestions i could try? Ps sorry for formatting, on my phone atm. [link] [comments] |

Alienware wont let me uninstall Killer Network Drivers. Posted: 09 Jan 2018 01:25 AM PST My laptop (Alienware 13 R3) won't connect to wifi. My research on troubleshooting has led to me uninstalling and reinstalling the Killer Network Drivers and Killer Network Performance Suite. The Performance Suite Uninstalled fine. But whenever I try to uninstall the Killer Network Drivers, I get this message. I'm not sure how to get rid of it. Whenever I try to re-install the Performance Suite anyway, I get a message saying that it can't install because of the Killer Network Drivers. Looking for any help with getting wifi working on my laptop please! [link] [comments] |
Windows Creators Update ruined FPS in my games—how can I get rid of it completely? Posted: 08 Jan 2018 03:39 PM PST So this is for my brother: He was on build 1703 for awhile, while I've been on build 1607 with no interest in opting into the Creators Update yet. He wanted to format his PC, and with it was automatically put into 1709 which dropped his FPS in games like Fortnite and WoW from 150+ on max settings to roughly 70-80. If he were to fallback to a previous version, it simply takes him back to 1703, and while that has fixed his FPS issue, he wants to go back to 1607 like I'm on without Creators Update, as games still seem better on mine than his. He has a USB with Windows on it from 2015. He installed that and now is on an older version. If he were to update through Windows Update to the newest version, would it go to 1607 and then ASK to opt into the Creators Update? Or will updating it go straight through the Creators Update into 1709? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
