The output will look vaguely like this: https://imgur.com/a/4iNOZ Anything in red is vulnerable. The first section is hardware vulnerabilities, and will require updates for your BIOS/chipset/firmware to fix. The second section is Windows updates specifically, which have been released. On my PC I had to set the execution policy, you may not have to. [link] [comments]

Anyone else's PC bricked after the new windows update? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 02:19 PM PST I delayed updating my pc for about 3-4 days before I finally decided to install it (set the install date to 1/5/18-4:38) and went to sleep. woke up this morning and tried to use my pc and found windows saying " Windowss could not complete the installation. To install Windows on the computer, restart the installation." I've tried most of the popular solutions like msoobe, secpol.msc, mmc, etc to no avail. I'm going to look online for more fixes before trying a clean install, but I was wondering if anyone else had encountered issues like this with the new years update. EDIT: Forgot to mention this is Windows 10 [link] [comments]
Automating Windows with a drag-and-drop interface - beta testers wanted! Posted: 05 Jan 2018 03:27 PM PST Hi, My name is Robin and I have developed a tool which allows you to automate Windows using a drag-and-drop editor. Think AutoHotKey, but with a graphical interface so you don't have to write any code yourself. It takes the form of a pop-out sidebar with a number of buttons on it. You can make the buttons do whatever you like by dragging and dropping the automation you want to each button. You can combine the following in any way you like:
Here is a (rather low-budget) demo video: https://youtu.be/KzMo9zLNe1I I am looking for people who are interested in productivity/automation/workflow who would be interested in testing this. I just want to get some feedback, find out if it is useful and see if any improvements are needed. If you're interested, drop me an email at theamazingshortcutkeypad@gmail.com and I will send you a link for a free trial of the software :) Many thanks in advance! Robin [link] [comments]
I used to own AOE3 on Games For Windows Live. Can I get that back? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 01:27 PM PST I used to own Age of Empires III on Games for Windows Live. I think I last played it maybe 2 or 3 years ago. Now, on Windows 10, that game isn't in my library on the Xbox app and I can't see any info about how to get it. The game isn't in the Windows Store either. Have I lost it? (I'm certain I'm using the same hotmail account I've always used) [link] [comments]
Windows suddenly doesn’t work anymore Posted: 05 Jan 2018 02:40 PM PST Hi, So today I turned on my computer and when I was on the desktop I saw a red 'x' at the audio icon saying "audio service not available/running". The first I thought was "oh no not again". I was thinking this because my older pc had the exact same problem: suddenly a BSOD saying the cause was faceit.sys. (I knew what that was so I deleted it.), sometimes it just freezes with a solid color background only and audio not working. I'm just wondering what could this be? It's obviously Windows because I just got a brand new system (1080Ti, i5 8600k) and it's doing the same errors. If you can help me with this I would deeply appreciate it. I can provide more answers if needed. Thank you, Sebas. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2018 06:46 AM PST Hi, I have a quite annoying problem, that reappears every few weeks. The taskbar isn't working, meaning it correctly shows what's open and when I hover over it works normally, but clicking anything to open doesn't work (apart from file manager, which takes half a minute to open). Also the start menu isn't opening, not by clicking nor by the Windows button. One more thing that is probably related to this, alt-tabbing doesn't work and neither does Win-tab. Until I reset my PC, I also had a problem with putting tabs back into Chrome. I could pull a tab into a seperate window without problem, but it wouldn't go back. I've seen issues with this and I found some commands that supposedly fixes the problem, but they don't. I've seen suggestions about creating a new profile, but I'm sick of doing this shit. Am I supposed to move all my data every 2 weeks, because of a simple bug? Edit: I solved it by booting into safe mode and then just restarting. [link] [comments]
Literally no way to disable web results in search anymore? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 07:31 PM PST I was happily using some group policy tweaks prior to the fall update to disable web search results in start menu search. I'm routinely looking for files from certain stores, websites, and instead of finding my documents, i'm given search results as the top hit which is extremely annoying. I've moved over to using "Search Everything" for my indexing needs, but i still don't want garbage bing search results in the start menu. Registry keys are ineffective: https://i.imgur.com/bKWcBiS.jpg Group policy is ineffective: https://i.imgur.com/RG9E9yv.jpg I've researched the issue for the last 45 minutes and all i'm finding is outdated information about clicking "settings" in cortana -- but the setting has since been removed. And now it seems the GP / registry method of disabling web search yields no results. Anyone know? [link] [comments]
Some advice or information please. Posted: 05 Jan 2018 06:46 PM PST I don't know where else to ask this. I use Window 7 and lately I've noticed pretty much all the games I play on steam are having random frame drops/spikes. I thought id better upgrade any gpu and windows drivers that are out of date but it didn't fix it. I checked temperatures and everything is fine. I rolled back the drivers for windows and gpu but its still not fixing the games random frame drops. This never happened before I stopped using the computer for a month or so. I remember recently while watching a gamer streaming on Youtube that he was having the same problems, and someone else in discord or teamspeak with him said to him he was having the same problems with his steam games and that it could be something to do with Windows and one of their updates. I'm at a lost what to do. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments]

Windows Modules Installer Worker problem Posted: 05 Jan 2018 04:28 PM PST So I reinstalled Windows 10 a few weeks back after using my laptop for two and a half years thinking it would help with the framedrops etc. But I've noticed that WMIW is always running no matter what. Right now it's using 31,6% CPU; 865 MB of RAM; 0,1 Mbps Disk and 0% Network. I can't update my Nvidia drivers because it says there are already other installations taking place. It can't be installing stuff for over 2 weeks right? [link] [comments]
How do I stop windows auto rebooting for updates? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 08:55 AM PST I'm a linux developer. I use windows as just a convenient way to run chrome and a whole bunch of ssh/mosh sessions on a laptop (windows is more stable over suspend to disk and has less issues with working drivers). Occasionally I also use vmware. The only one thing that's about to convince me to finally abandon windows altogether is it's insistence on rebooting my machine without my okay first. I have long running (weeks+) development sessions that get lost when this happens. Chrome fortunately remembers all the tabs, so I'm good there, but my terminal sessions are all lost. I've researched and tried several "hacks" such as policy changes and such, but so far there is nothing that has prevented the occasional overnight reboot when windows pushes an update. Is there any way to convince windows to absolutely wait until I say so before rebooting - I don't care if it bugs me every hour, just so long as it doesn't actually take my going to bed as an opportunity to reboot the machine without my permission??? If the consensus of the reddit hivemind is that there is no way to absolutely deny windows rebooting without permission, I shall go ahead and switch to Linux to avoid this hassle going forwards. TIA [link] [comments]
Any alternatives to Glasswire? (personal firewall with per app blocking and bandwidth monitor). Posted: 05 Jan 2018 08:45 AM PST Recently Glasswire went to a subscription plan and decided to remove some features from the free version, mainly the ability to block an app from using internet. What I need is a program able to monitor how much data an app used and eventually manually block it. [link] [comments]
Anyone know how to find better resolution windows 10 wallpapers? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 04:10 PM PST I quite like some of the lock screen wallpapers for Windows 10 and found out how to get them but I'm trying to find a better resolution of the images but can't find any. I've tried putting the image through google images but can't find the same image in a larger resolution. Can anyone help? Is there a site for Windows 10 wallpapers? [link] [comments]
The "did you like" in my lock screen slide show disappeared, how to make it reappear? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 03:53 PM PST I didn't change the settings at all, I tried changing it and reevrting to see if it would do anything, but it didn't come back, any ideas? [link] [comments]
Windows 10 Keeps Trying to Update Posted: 05 Jan 2018 03:42 PM PST I have Windows 10, but the new version continuously attempts to update. My current Windows 10 is on my SSD and it says it's an unsupported directory, so it's trying to completely reformat and won't allow me to keep my files. Do you guys have any suggestions? I don't want to reformat right now as I just did it relatively recently. I'm also sick of Windows repeatedly attempting to update and failing. I would prefer to update it but if that's going to be impossible or time consuming I'd rather just disable updates completely. Thanks [link] [comments]

SSD with Windows 7 on new computer won't boot. Posted: 05 Jan 2018 07:40 AM PST A few months ago my workplace was about to throw out a computer. I opted to take it as I had plans to build a computer and wanted to see if I could get any parts. All it had was an SSD with Windows 7 on it (which is pretty good!). I've finally now built the computer, with the SSD in. But when I try to boot to it, it always goes into the "Windows Error Recovery" screen. When I opt to "Launch Startup Repairs," it goes through the process, restarts, and simply goes back to the recovery screen. Attempting to launch normally does the same. The recovery screen says that a recent hardware change may be the reason, which might be the case, but I'm not sure. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Windows 10 Freezes Randomly for no reason Posted: 05 Jan 2018 03:01 PM PST I'm tired of this. I'm afraid someday this will make my big problem I reinstalled windows ten already five times even with completely clean HDD So past months, I think this started happening in October. So what happens if I'm wasting my time on YT, and Discord and Windows will freeze and won't unfreeze I have been getting this a lot and sometimes while I play games which is exceptionally annoying imagine playing and suddenly you're PC just decides to ruin your game with windows freezes. I'm thinking to go 8.1 tbh. If anyone can figure out the problem and help me, I will be super happy because I like 10 and don't want to go back to 8.1. Win 10 partition extension query Posted: 05 Jan 2018 02:53 AM PST Hello, I have a new HP laptop with a 256GB SSD drive split into C and D where D (13.9GB) has the manufacturer provided recovery. I've now got a separate recovery disk from HP and would like to delete D and extend C. When I try to do that using Windows' own Disk Management tool, the extend option is greyed out. I believe this might be because there isn't unallocated space to the right of C. There's an odd 980MB section between C and D. Here's what it looks like https://imgur.com/a/dHL9z Could someone please point me to a step-by-step guide or provide instructions on what I should do? [link] [comments]
