Can I use External SSD through USB 3.1 port without any speed issues? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 01:04 PM PST I have ASUS Rog Zephyrus and it has unfortunately only 512GB SSD. I'm thinking of buying and installing some games on an External SSD like Samsung T5. Is that a good idea, am I going to feel any kind of slow downs because of it during gaming or during loading screens? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2018 01:00 PM PST So for a while, my quotations/apostrophe button was stiff and wouldnt press. Today, it fell off and will not go back on. You put it where its supposed to but it just sits there very lose and falls off with even a bit of movement. I think something broke, or I just dont know how to put it back on.. the laptop is an Acer Aspire E5-521. Any help? [link] [comments]
Asus Laptop style Wireless keyboard for my Laptop? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 08:46 AM PST I have an Asus UX305 laptop but would like to get a seperate keyboard so I can raise the laptop and avoid straining my neck. I'd really like the same keyboard layout as the laptop so when I'm switching between the two Im not missing keys. Also, I want a relatively narrow keyboard (same as laptop), rather than one with a number pad so that I don't have to keep reaching over the for the mouse as this irritates my shoulder. Ideally, I'd love a laptop style keyboard with its own track pad, below the keys but can't see any modern products like this? I've just bought a TeckNet wireless keyboard but upon arrival, it's too narrow. Any suggestions please? Thanks, [link] [comments]
My laptop sounds like it’s dying. Is it just the fan? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 06:42 AM PST Soooo. I'm a grade-a idiot when it comes to advanced computer/laptop stuff. I have a Dell Inspiron 17 laptop. I've had it for 5 months and recently it's started to sound like the fan was working a little harder. I'm too scared to open it because like I said, I'm a fucking idiot, and I will end up breaking it. So I tried my best to clean the little vents on the bottom. But the sound has literally gotten increasingly louder and stronger and performance has dropped tremendously. Way slower. What do I do here? (sorry for being stupid, just in advance) [link] [comments]
meltdown bug, a chance fro AMD to steal some market-share on mobile machines? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 12:35 AM PST Will AMD start pushing mobile manufacturers to go for the new Ryzen mobile CPU by using as leverage the Meltdown bug? Let's remind that on the AMD side, the bug is usable if the machine is physically accessible. Intel on the other hand, created a memory leak that is accessible through software. EDIT: just noticed I fucked up the title, but yolo. [link] [comments]
Is this a good laptop for the price [HP Pavilion 14-bf153sa £699]? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 04:39 AM PST Mainly just looking for something for uni with a little extra oomph should I ever want to play some games. Looks like a good price and saving but no reviews. Wondering if anyone has any personal experience with this laptop or range? [link] [comments]
Asus Giftbox is not bloatware - it's grayware, here's why Posted: 04 Jan 2018 04:48 PM PST Bloatware means it was pre installed when you bought the laptop right? So that means whoever thinks GiftBox is bloatware, they are all wrong. If you buy an Asus laptop you will not see giftbox, or many other Asus products installed........ until you connect to the Internet then it downloads and installs GiftBox along with a lot of other unnecessary Asus Software automatically using your Internet connection. To summarize; Only when you connect to the internet does giftbox Install in the background. Plus a lot of extra programs You would think that the Asus LiveUpdate Program downloads these; but I discovered today that Asus uses Bloatware called Asus FTP Driver (for those of you who don't know what FTP stands for, it's File Transfer Protocol) it's not a driver, it's software. So GiftBox, along with a lot of other Asus Software is not preinstalled as the definition of bloatware is. It's actually called Grayware. Everyone knows not to uninstall "Drivers" so that's why Asus calls the FTP "software" a Driver. You can tell by the Install Dates of the Asus LiveUpdate and Asus FTP Driver that GiftBox and others were NOT pre installed by the manufacturer, but automatically downloaded over your internet connection when you first connected it to internet, that's the day it was installed on, the first day of Internet I'm surprised nobody has figured that out yet after a few years people asking about it. Today I confirmed this at Staples, the only Bloatware from Asus was LiveUpdate and Asus FTP Driver. Well I uninstalled Asus LiveUpdate on January 1 2018 when I noticed 2-3 other Asus programs installed on January 1, 2018. I noticed, but didn't think twice about it.. Until On January 4 2018 Asus GiftBox popped up on the screen just a few minutes after connecting to wifi for the second time. I was downloading Chrome and it said 8 hours. I was shocked and thought something was up with the Wireless Router; I changed the channel of the Wireless, and it was still slow downloading Chrome.. Which raises the suspicions that what I'm saying is true, Asus was downloading programs in the background and automatically installing. I contacted Asus today and spoke to a supervisor (Jenna) who tried to blame Microsoft for updates. But updates only apply to Software already installed I told her. I explained thoroughly because I work in Security, but it seems Asus is in denial of anything being wrong about this. Grayware is illegal in some states, I'm from Canada so I'm not sure the laws here are Anyone else see this as a big problem? [link] [comments]

Need advice/help When buying this laptop. Posted: 04 Jan 2018 11:59 PM PST Ok, first I must say I am by no mean a professional, but I am aspiring to become one. I need a laptop for graphic designing, photo and video editing, animations and digital drawing. And maybe in the future I would start learning programming more seriously (So far I used only Aptana studio and Filezilla just to get myself familiar with basics of coding). I use Adobe PS the most, then InDesign and Illustrator. There are some maybe bit less knows programs I sometimws visit as well. Aside from that I don't use computer much, aka no gaming and so... Now, I want affordable laptop, as I am just a student, and I thought Asus vivobook pro 15 n580vd-fy360 would be alright for my needs. These is the description I found on the store: Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2,80 GHz (3,80GHz Turbo), 8 GB, 15,6" 1920x1080, SSD 256 GB, Linux, GeForce GTX1050 (4 GB), 1x 10/100/1000 Ethernet, 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, HDMI 1, USB 2.0 2, USB 3.0 1, USB 3.1 Type C 1 I've read about this laptop not having a good battery though, but I guess I can manage that as I work mostly from home and do not travel that often. Also peopel complain TN is awful? As well as it is cheaply made? Would you say that I (non-professional who is still learning how to be good at designing) would be content with this? Thanks. Need opinions on 2 laptops , they are pretty much same specs same price, on HP and one ASUS Posted: 04 Jan 2018 07:36 PM PST I've narrowed down my choice to 2 machines, one HP and one Asus. Benefit I can see from HP is removable battery, Asus build quality looks better though...what would you choose? Both machines have: CPU : Intel Core i5-8250U 1.6GHz RAM : 4GB DDR4 HDD : 1TB Display : 15.6 inch FHD Battery: about 40 w/h Same price Notebook HP 15-bs195TX https://online.advice.co.th/product/notebook-consumer/notebook-hp/notebook-hp-15-bs195tx-snow-white- ASUS VivoBook 14 X442UQ https://online.advice.co.th/product/notebook-consumer/notebook-asus/notebook-asus-x542uq-dm255t-dark-gray- [link] [comments]
Thinkpad T series & L Series difference Posted: 04 Jan 2018 09:47 PM PST I have always been buy T Series for my team for a long time. But now in my country, the T Series has become really expensive after some increase in taxes. Plus I am not finding a T Series with i5 & SSD Storage. They have only i7 with SSD storage or i5 with a regular harddisk - so the price is even more. I do have the option of an L Series with i5 & 256 GB SSD & 16 GB RAM. So I was wondering how much worse is an L Series as compared to a T Series. The usage is going to be mostly for programmers who use it at work & take it home in the evening. Would an L Series suffice? [link] [comments]
Thinking of two laptops, are the benefits of the more expensive one worth it? Posted: 04 Jan 2018 08:53 PM PST I'm looking at the dell 7577 laptops and I've narrowed it down to the one with a Nvidia 1060 6GB and 16GB DDR5 RAM, but the decision is between the model with the IPS 1080p display and 256GB SSD, or the more expensive 4K display and 512GB SSD. The price difference is 200 dollars between the two. From what I gather, the 1060 6GB isn't even capable of comfortable 4K gaming, its not going to happen, so the 4K screen isn't really that big of a deal because 4K gaming isn't going down. Is the coupled 256 GB and the 4k screen worth the extra 200 bucks? Here is the one with the 256GB SSD and IPS display, $1,249.99 [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 04:48 PM PST My sister just got a new laptop for while she is at college and I got her old 2011 MacBook pro. I am starting my freshman year at college and want to use this MacBook pro but the only issue is that the battery does not work so it must be constantly plugged in while running. I called an apple store to see about a new battery but they don't have any cause it's too old and said I would have to go through a 3rd party. Does anyone know a good site to order a battery? Is there a big difference in batteries? Also, would there be any way to clean out any junk that might have been added onto the laptop while my sister has used it in order to make it run a little smoother? [link] [comments]
Need Quick Help - Terrible Dell Australia Reviews Posted: 04 Jan 2018 08:14 PM PST Hi, So I was planning on getting the Dell XPS 13 that just got announced today, but i've learned that the Dell company in Australia actually has terrible reviews https://www.productreview.com.au/p/dell-australia.html https://www.google.com.au/search?q=australia+dell&oq=australia+dell&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60l3j0l2.4327j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#lrd=0x6b12aa21dba87891:0xbed136f036dd6b3a,1,,, Yet overseas, they get generally great reviews and the computer itself is stellar. Should I be wary of them and not buy Dell? The sheer amount of people saying it's terrible can't be ignored. How much of am impact does Dell being bad in Australia have? Outside of customer service, the actual product isn't affected, right? [link] [comments]
Good laptop for around 1200CAD (~1k Usd) Posted: 04 Jan 2018 06:41 PM PST Hi So my had an dell xps13 (which is now kinda dead due to water dmg) I'm looking for a replacement. My budget is around 1200CAD ( around 1000 USD can go up to 1200USD). Can some1 give me some advice about which one should I pick up. Mostly for University use (I'm in ENGR) some design (with AutoCAD/illustrator) and some light gaming ( Overwatch mostly). Not too game-ry (so no black-red stuff), have a decent graphic card if posible I've been eyeing the dell inspiron for a couple day, is it a good pick up? ( they have some silver/ gray model instead of black/red aren't they) Thanks for reading [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Jan 2018 03:44 PM PST http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/omen-laptop---15t-gaming-uhd-1wc88av-1 So that's the link to the hp omen laptop that i'm looking at, there's no way for me to link the specific configurations so i'm going to try including screenshots for the page with all the configurations on them. http://prntscr.com/hw78qv http://prntscr.com/hw7918 http://prntscr.com/hw79vi http://prntscr.com/hw7a31 Any screenshots i didn't include means it's just the default settings. I've tried looking through a bunch of other laptops but this hp omen caught my eye the most since it had a very nice screen and also a GTX 1060 since i want to be able to play games. I was just wondering if anyone knew more about this specific laptop and if it's really good or it has a fault that I don't know about. This is my first time posting to this subreddit so I'm sorry if im not following the right guidelines for this, but the recommendation guide looked like it was more so used to ask about finding a laptop for myself, whereas I already have a laptop I want, but i'm just trying to figure out if it's a good laptop. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
