Expected new Trends and tech in laptops in 2018?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 10:59 AM PST

    Hi,

What are the expected updates, and changes in laptops in the coming year, compared to older laptops on sale already.. in terms of, for example:

    1. the performance of i7-8xxx series intel chipsets.

    2. Ryzen laptops

    3. Screen resolutions (will 1440p/2160p get more popular)

    4. Ports, fingerprint readers etc

    5. ARM based powerful laptops

    6. Hardware prices

    7. Display tech - AMOLED, etc..

    etc...

Any ongoing good deals on XPS 15?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:11 AM PST

I am looking to buy this laptop because I am looking for a thin laptop that has small area, 15 inch, and enough GPU to do some editing w/t thunderbolt 3 support.
I would prefer the 4k version, since the FHD ones supposedly have high latency.
I had a chance to buy one with $1.5K with tax, but missed out on that deal, unfortunately.

Upgrading '14 Hp pavilion help request

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 10:10 AM PST

my current laptop: hp pavilion from 2014 running Windows 10, w/ 12g ram, intel i7-3610 qm @2.3 ghz, and original factory fan is starting to run hot and I think that it is time to upgrade. I mostly use it for digital work (Photoshop suite) on the go or in the studio, with light gaming when I'm traveling. I would rather replace parts over buying a new system, but that is not completely out of the question. My budget is ~$500-$600, but if it goes slightly over it will not be a deal breaker. My question is, should I just get a new system? If so which would be best/ recommended? If not, what should be replaced and what should I buy?

Why do Sub $1000 Laptops Have Bad Color Gamuts?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 09:48 AM PST

Most of the laptops in the sub $1000 market have screens with sRGB <60%

Even the ones with IPS panels are the same.. How much of a difference will this make when using them compared to 100% sRGB desktop monitors found today?

If im not mistaken most if not all Desktop monitors are at least 90% sRGB

Should I buy acer helios 300 now or wait for new laptops

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 07:47 AM PST

Essentially, I'm deciding whether to buy a laptop now or later (the highest I can go is (1100USD/916 euros/815BP). Acer Helios 300 seem pretty cheap and strong so it would be a good purchase. The only problem is that I don't really need it until July~Sept. 2018 so might as well just hold my grudges and wait, but then I'm really tempting to buy helios 300 now due to my crappy laptop. Will there be perhaps a better choice than helios 300 in the future? Should I wait for an 8th gen laptop at the same price range? How long will helios 300 be viable to play triple A titles?

    https://www.pccomponentes.com/hp-15-bs512ns-intel-core-i5-7200u-8gb-256gb-ssd-156

Is there a better pick for around the same price ?

    Question regarding current lenovo laptop

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 10:42 PM PST

I own a Lenovo y40-70 for a few years now. And it's only given my problems, from being inherently slow, to it never switching to the correct GPU (always switches to the integrated one). I was wondering if I can trade my current laptop for cash or in store credit toward another laptop? My budget is around 800$ (plus/minus what I can get for this current one).

Is buying an Asus laptop (ux330ua) a good idea despite the stories of terrible customer service?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 04:46 PM PST

Is it worth it to upgrade RAM on this ASUS laptop?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 02:17 PM PST

I've had this ASUS F55A-AH91 for almost 5 years. It has a 4GB DDRL right now and the processor is a 2.4 GHz Pentium B980. This seems like an OK to lower end processor but I'm not really sure.

I installed a SSD earlier this year and it is now quicker than ever.

However, memory usage hovers around 70-80% with ~6 browser tabs open and maxes out with heavy usage.

I can max out the RAM with an 8GB stick for $85 from crucial but I'm on the fence if it's worth it. I'd like to keep the laptop for a couple more years at least.

    Any advice? Thanks!
