    Data Wing rogue background process

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 03:59 PM PST

Many months ago, I heard about this awesome game called Data Wing. I installed it, played it for a bit and kinda forgot about it. A few weeks later, I happened to look at my phone's running processes and saw it running since boot. This pissed me off and I immediately deleted the app.

A month ago, this game came up in this subreddit. I complained in there about this and was downvoted. In an attempt to prove my complaint, I installed the game, and found no running process. I chalked it up to a mistake on my part, admitted I was wrong and moved on. Again, I didn't uninstall it because I did want to play it eventually. And again, I forgot about it without even playing it.

A few days ago, I happened to look in my processes for some reason and I'll be damned if it wasn't there running again. This time I got a screenshot. Keep in mind, I hadn't played the game since installing, so it had absolutely no reason to have a process running in the background.

I've done a bit of Android programming, and I can think of no good reason this app should be running in this fashion. Especially one that, last I checked, didn't even have ads to download in the background. I'm no expert though, so if someone can give me a good reason for this behavior, I'd love to hear it. Otherwise, the old adage may apply here: if you're not the customer, you're the product. Beware.

    Edited for grammar.

Can we organize a community driven gamejam for gamepad compatible games?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 05:49 PM PST

So, it's generally hard to find good games to play with a gamepad on Android, specially if you have a generic hid controller (a big chunk of games are exclusive to controllers like moga).

What would it take to organize a gamejam and make a pool prize with community donations? I have no clue of how to organize something like this but maybe someone else here knows how to. Hopefully it would be community driven with people suggesting things like themes for the gamejam.

Ideas? Would you like this to be a thing?

    Android Gaming Book club?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 07:24 PM PST

I'm sure this has been brought up before but it would be cool (and help some people including myself) if we all voted on a game to play for a week to a month and have a thread where we discuss the game.

It would allow for us to have peer support as well as find friends to play with if it's multiplayer. Also it might help some people find new genres they like.

    What are your guys' thoughts?

[DEV] 5 ❤ Sudoku - not your ordinary boring Sudoku - unique/rare shapes, NO IAPs, no forced ads - looking for feedback

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 09:34 AM PST

    Hello fellow redditors,

    We are Alex & Annie.

I (Alex) did the coding part and my better half, Annie, did the design & testing.

We would love to hear what you people think regarding gameplay, balance and design of the game.

    What is it?

Classic Sudoku with collection of handpicked rare/unusual shape puzzles + collection of very, very rare & unusual shape sudokus like heart, boat, umbrella, things, animals, etc.

    Why?

It started as a hobby project as I wanted to delve a bit into Android development and my Annie loves Sudoku

    IAP's?

NO IAP's. zero, zip, zilch, nada

    Ads?

No forced ones. If you are impatient, you can watch rewarded videos, to faster unlock special Sudokus, but you can easily complete ALL sudokus without ever seeing any ad.

    Why that name?

Had bunch of heart shaped sudokus laying around so I decided to put one in each of 5 levels, hence the name - 5 ❤ Sudoku. Also, heart shaped sudokus looks amazing, in my opinion.

    Some other features:

❥ Night mode (I hope I got colors right)

    ❥ Play offline

    ... and usual:

    ❥ Unlimited Undo/Redo

    ❥ Auto-save

    Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gemapps.sudokugem

Alto's Adventure issue on Samsung Note 8

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 06:27 PM PST

So I have a copy of Alto's Adventure from a recent Humble Mobile Bundle and also recently upgraded from a Pixel XL to a Note 8. The game ran awesomely on the Pixel, but on this Note 8, it runs like pure garbage. It actually gets really really bad when there are lots of things on the screen. Like last night I adjusted some settings to get it to run better then tried to play and hit a llama horn while raining in the forest and the game pretty much came to a stand still.

So anyone else with a Note 8 with Alto's Adventure having similar issues or resolved them some how? I am super bummed that this high spec'ed flagship phone is having issues running this game.

Also as it stands, the game seems to be fully up to date according to the Play store version.

Do you think we will see a oficial release of Cuphead ?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 03:39 AM PST

I know someone managed to get the game running and it was 100% playable (but it had horrible controls and the only way to play it with a controller required root ) so i dont think it will be that hard to get a oficial port with gamepad support
