How do I set my Google Home Speaker to NOT use my personal YouTube account?? Please hurry! Posted: 01 Dec 2017 01:04 PM PST I'm a 37yo man. The HASHAG SISTERS and MATTY B RAPS just came on my Youtube because of my 8yo daughter's penchant for going "OK Google, play awful music" on my Google home. I need this to stop quickly because it's ruining my playlists and making me go nuts, especially at work! If I can't get this fixed, I'm defenestrating the device as soon as I get home. BIOS issue suspected, am I right? Posted: 02 Dec 2017 02:57 AM PST So today I installed Xamarin and to enable Android Virtual machine testing I had to go into the BIOS to enable hardware acceleration. All is well. Save and exit. It begins rebooting, except it doesn't look to be getting power at all. No lights, no fans, nothing. I unplugged everything after switching everything off, open the case and pop the CR2032 coin cell out to reset everything. Wait 5 mins and replace, still has the same issue. Every ~5th time I replug everything in, it powers on and goes to BIOS loading screen. (Yay progress!) Says Press F1 to run setup (to recover BIOS setting) but won't register keyboard strokes and now I'm stuck on this screen. Restarting always gets stuck on this screen. Is this a BIOS issue? And if so, how do I fix it? [link] [comments] |
New computer doesn't seem to detect my GTX 1080, and installing the drivers messes up the monitor. Posted: 02 Dec 2017 02:52 AM PST Operating SystemWindows 10 Computer Specs (PSU, GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard)PSU - be quiet! System Power 8 600W Power Supply GPU - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 WindForce OC 8GB CPU - Intel Core i3 8350K RAM - Vengeance LPX Corsair 2133MHz, 8 gigabytes Motherboard - ASRock Z370 Killer SLI Motherboard Note: No disk drive on the PC case, so I can't install the motherboard and graphics drivers using the disks that came with them. What I've done instead is transfer the contents of the disk to a portable harddrive, then connect this harddrive to the computer and run the driver installation from there. This seems to work fine, but I figured it was worth mentioning. Speccy LinkN/A Description of problemFirst, I should say that I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to these kinds of things, so just tell me if I'm missing any important information here, and forgive me if the solution is blindingly obvious. Anyway, I've recently bought a new gaming computer, and after getting a mate to build it and installing Windows on it, the GPU doesn't seem to be working. It's definitely on, or, at least, the fans are spinning, but it doesn't show up in the device manager, and whenever I try and install the Nvidia drivers on the disc that came with it, the installation fails, saying it wasn't able to install the Graphics Driver. I tried getting the drivers directly from the Nvidia website, but when I tried to install them, the monitor began to display a black screen (Screen still lit, power button still on), and would not continue from that. The mouse did not appear. On subsequent reboots, the computer managed to get past the ASRock splash screen, allowing me to go to the bootmenu, but once it actually loaded, the monitor began to display the black screen again. Once I reinstall windows, it goes back to normal, but the same thing happens when I tried to install the drivers again. To fix this, I reinstalled Windows 10, and the computer booted up normally, albeit without everything I'd previously installed. Since then, the same problems have persisted. Installing Nvidia drivers will stop the monitor from working as described above, and using the driver installer that comes in the disc results in it failing again. When this issue beganWhen I attempted to install the Nvidia drivers onto the new computer. Recurring issueYes Date of purchase30/11/2017 Under WarrantyYes Cause/Steps to recreate the issue
2a. I launch the installer that came in the disc from my portable hard drive 2b. It loads everything but the drivers themselves fine. 2c. It begins to install the drivers, and the screen flickers a bit. 2d. A short while into the installation, it stops, telling me it has failed, and that nothing was installed. 3a. I launch the driver installer that I downloaded from Nvidia's website 3b. It fails, the monitor either shuts off or doesn't display anything, despite being on.
What I've tried so far to resolve the issue
Obviously, none of these things have worked. Any help here would be hugely appreciated! Oh, and sorry for the huge wall of text. [link] [comments] |

Bluetooth headphone audio is patchy when connecting to bluetooth receiver. Posted: 02 Dec 2017 02:29 AM PST So some context. Sorry, a little long. I recently got my first actual tv and have it set up via hdmi to be a giant monitor for my laptop for browsing, watching videos, etc. To not disturb the neighbors, I got a Taotronics 4.1 transmitter/ receiver to connect to my taotronics (TT-BH07) and SoundPEATS bluetooth headphones. With my keyboard and mouse connected wireless to the laptop via Bluetooth dongles eveything is very mobile. I love it. Only problem is, when I play most videos the audio is prone to temporarily cut out on one side or both. Especially with scenes of rain, wind, or music and no talking. I contacted the seller about the transmitter/ receiver and they sent me a new one for free, but it is just as bad as the first one. When the headphones are paired to my phone or tablet the audio is perfectly fine. Same thing when I use the youtube app on the tv, or cast from the laptop to the youtube app. All clear. I've tried various set ups, but I'm all out of ideas. How do I fix the audio cutting out? [link] [comments] |

Is it bad to power devices on/off constantly? Posted: 02 Dec 2017 01:28 AM PST Hi, a question: I have a habit of turning things off when I'm not using it. Except I also have a habit of checking the battery life of my devices, even if I don't use them, hence turning on and off at very little time intervals. Is that bad for the device in the long run? Or does it really not matter provided it doesn't happen constantly? (ie several times a day over the course of many days). I'm asking about about modern devices in general. Laptops. Smartphones. My Switch,WiiU Gamepad, 3DS, etc. I looked for info and varying sources are saying this may or may not be susceptible to "thermal cycling". Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Very Slight Flickering on New Monitor only on some Games Posted: 02 Dec 2017 01:21 AM PST Heya, I recently upgraded from a very old but trusty monitor to the Dell S2417DG. It's a sexy upgrade but I've noticed a tiny... teeny lil flicker on two games. I first noticed it on the main menu in Total War Warhammer, and only in the main menu. The second time (and last time it occurs) is during Pillars of Eternity main game. I disregarded it when it was only on the main menu of TW but now that I see it a bunch in realtime during PoE it's hard to forget about it. It looks like a tiny, really slight flicker, or maybe calling it a dimming or fluctuation is more accurate. Like some mischievous goblin turns the brightness down by 1 tick and back up again in under a second. During TW is happened alot when I moved the mouse around, during PoE it happens all the time. Thing is I've played other games like a really heavily modded Skyrim, Little Nightmares, Sleeping Dogs set to 'Extreme', Witcher 3 on Ultra etc and i never happens. It's almost like it only affects games that are demanding so little of the card...or monitor.. again I dunno. Specs for reaons I guess:
All temps super cool, nothing overclocked or stressed all parts quite new... Monitor is set to 144Hz @ 1440. I've messed around with it but haven't noticed any change. Answers on a postcard baby [link] [comments] |
Spilled water on PC, "Please insert PCIE Cable error" Posted: 02 Dec 2017 01:11 AM PST A few weeks ago I stupidly spilled water on my desktop. I unplugged it as soon as it happened but I noticed the screen go out and a strange smell from the PC. I let it dry for a few days and tried to start it back up but now I have the error "Please insert PCIE cable" every time I try to start it. I'm convinced the issue is my GPU but I would like a second input before buying a new one because I would rather not waste money on something that isn't the issue. Thanks in advance for any help. Posted: 02 Dec 2017 03:48 AM PST All this happened after I moved my router. I noticed this problem after I couldn't connect to any server on my video game, it showed an error that it couldn't ping any server. I did some research and so on, turns out I can't ping ANY server. What's also a mystery is that I can not access my router's web interface on my computer. Here's what I have tried so far.

Can an image in an email reveal the recipient’s real IP address when using VPN? Down arrow button doesn't work on laptop Posted: 02 Dec 2017 03:26 AM PST Operating SystemWindows 10 Computer Specs (PSU, GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard)Lenovo Ideapad 100. CPU: Intel Core i3-5005U @ 2.00GhzRAM: 4GBSystem: 64 bit, x64 processor Speccy LinkN/A Description of problemI bought this laptop a year ago from a top computer seller company in Bangladesh. Soon after, there was a minor problem where the cursor used to keep on automatically scrolling down randomly without even touching the keyboard. Clicking the up arrow several times usually fixed this problem. The problem did not happen all the time and I don't even remember when it vanished away. Recently, the down arrow does not work. I don't remember when the problem started because I unconsciously bypassed the down arrow keys when it stopped working. The keys look fine and brand new. The laptop is hardly used at all. Now, the last time I gave my HP laptop to a top repair company they broke the screen and hinge, webcam and microphone and added a duct tape. And this was only because I sent the laptop for inspection of a minor cracking sound coming from the hinges. There are no official repair shops here and I don't trust them, so I really need to try all the avenues of solving the problem myself before giving it to a shop. Posted: 02 Dec 2017 03:25 AM PST I just built a new PC today and got everything up and running including OS and programs. Started gaming and after about 20 minutes the screen became pixelated with many different colors. The computer stayed on until I manually shut it down. Windows 10 stuck on Automatic Repair failure after crashing Posted: 02 Dec 2017 03:20 AM PST Hi there, I'm having a major problem with my computer right now. I'm running Windows 10 on an SSD, I was in the midst of browsing the net when everything started slowing down to a halt. I was able to open tabs but nothing I was clicking on really worked. I was able to open task manager eventually so the OS was still functioning but extremely slowly. It wouldn't let me shut down through the OS itself so I eventually had to do a hard shutdown with the power button. After I tried to start my computer up again, it went straight to the BIOS and didn't find any boot options. This has happened once before, so I did what fixed it previously, and turned my computer off for an hour to let it rest. When I started it up again an hour later, it moved past the BIOS menu and instead tried to diagnose and automatically repair my Windows 10 installation. It gave me a generic failure message and that's where it's been ever since. Here's what I've tried so far: 1) Removing all USB devices 2) Opening up the command prompt and doing an sfc /scannow (It scans to 100% but then gives an error that it can't work) 3) chkdsk (The hard drive seems to be fine at a glance but I'm not an expert at all) 4) The advanced options for booting let me access a Windows 7 installation that I have on the same HDD. This installation appears to work because I can get to the login screen just fine, so I think that the SSD is still working. I'd really appreciate some help, preferably help that lets me keep (or at least get access to and backup) my files from the Windows 10 side of my SSD, I have a lot of work related documents on there that I can't afford to lose. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
