Help Deciding which phone is better?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 06:38 PM PST

Hello everyone, I just had a quick question and I was hoping someone could help me out?

So, I am currently using the Moto G4 and it has served me well these few months I've had it, now my friend has given me his old Blu Vivo 5R and I'm not sure which one I would like to make my go-to phone yet.

The Blu Vivo 5R has a bigger battery and 3gb of ram compared to the G4's 2gb but my Moto G4 has better headset quality and the ringer is much louder.

In your opinion, which phone is better? My old Moto G4 or the newer Blu Vivo 5r?

    I really appreciate the help!

What are your recommendations for apps and things you can do on an Android that you can't do on iPhone?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 03:55 PM PST

So I got a nice little Android phone alongside my main iPhone for coding apps and what not. I was wondering what sort of things there are out there. Apps and games are both welcome. I already know about rooting, emulators, and cheaper app development. What are your favorite things?

    Datally, am I dumb?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 02:26 PM PST

At work so after i post this it'll be a bit before i can respond. Just downloaded Datally because my Honor 6x says apps are draining battery, but does the app do anything specific? It basically connected me to wifi... And that's it!

How do i manage apps and their data functions within this app? 🤔 Again, all it did was swap to wifi for me.

    Do you Recommend Nox?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 05:07 PM PST

    Hi,

I've been looking for an Android app emulator to run apps like Instagram on my PC. I tried out BlueStacks, and, spoiler alert, it sucked. It was slow and unstable to the point where I had to uninstall it. I was recently recommended the Nox emulator, and I want to see what you guys think.

How do I only use a pattern screen lock?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 06:47 PM PST

I just upgraded my phone from a Samsung Grand Prime to a Samsung Galaxy Halo (cricket exclusives, don't make fun of me I have no money). On my old phone I had the pattern screen lock and when I would wake my phone up I could put the pattern in and I would be in. However on this new phone I have to swipe the screen first and then put my pattern in. I know it is a little thing but I find it extremely annoying and cannot seem to find the setting to turn it off. Any help or advice would be extremely helpful.

Not receiving some notifications on my OnePlus 3T

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 06:26 PM PST

I haven't been receiving some notifications on my OnePlus 3T. Specifically from TheScore and Bleacher Report that I've noticed. I receive notifications from twitter, outlook, facebook, and messenger perfectly normal. I'm with Rogers in Canada but I don't think that has anything to do with it. I've already made sure that the app notifications are on and set to high priority and I've cleared the data and reset the apps themselves but i still don't get notifications. Any help towards fixing this would be greatly appreciated thanks!

What's a good phone to get right now that'll stay updated?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 01:56 PM PST

I just want a phone that'll receive updates for 2 years. Don't care about price. I mainly use my phone for work/school, and watching videos - no games. I've had Note 4, S4, etc. in the past and they slow down immensely after next gen comes out. What's the best phone in my use case? I also don't care about speakers or headphone jack as I use bluetooth. I do care about fast charging.

Getting texts that say "missed call from -insert #" but actually didn't get a call

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 07:47 PM PST

    Hi there,

I sometimes get texts that say that I "missed call from insert number @ time and date call / text me back".

But I check on the call history and it doesn't show such a call. And also, I always have my phone with me, so I for sure didn't miss such a call. Now you might think it's a spam, but this also happened when my mom called me. And now I just experimented and got my bro to call me and I received his call with no problem.

My model is the BLU R1 HD, and my carrier is Freedom Mobile

Has anyone been able to successfully build AOSP from source for the Pixel 1?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 04:35 AM PST

I've read that there's issues with the dual partition layout, but if I just follow the Instructions like on any of the Nexus devices, shouldn't I be able to build it just fine for the Pixel?

Dedicated simple Bluetooth device just for Smart Lock? (non-audio)

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 07:13 PM PST

Hi, I'm trying to figure out a replacement for the now defunct feature to tie NFC tags to Smart Lock. I guess BT devices are the way to go. It's fine that I can use regular BT headset/speakers for this. But are there simpler, cheaper, BT devices that I can get for this use case? In a way, I'm looking for a BT device that does nothing, except it maintains a connections to my phone; so any time it's paired, my phone doesn't lock.

    Thanks!

Looking for a classic T9 keyboard with prediction.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 06:59 AM PST

I am looking for the style of keyboard that looks like a phone pad, but let's you type: 43550 96753 and get " hello world"

All I can find is the older style where you press the keys multiple times to access letters.

    Anyone have a solution

Looking for a high resolution tablet

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 02:42 PM PST

I am looking for a tablet with a high resolution screen similar to the SM-T700 Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4.

I've been using the T700 for a while now and love it for reading books and comics. However, I managed to drop it on it's corner and the panel cracked(but not the glass wtf). I could look for another or try to replace the screen assembly but the tablet has been showing it's age in terms of performance so I'd like to get a newer tablet like it.

Why don't they have more cases with speakers built in?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 04:02 PM PST

I was using a Morphie juice pack and noticed it channels the bottom speaker forward, sounds way better.

And of course there are Moto mods.

Why don't they have more cases that plug in USB and add stereo speakers etc?

Maybe it's a little more complicated but cool idea.

    Google pixel 2 won't click

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 03:21 PM PST

I can't dissolve or hide my apps on my google pixel. The 'cancel' just keeps flashing. But I can't click that either. I can only click home button. I'm using a different launcher but it works fine on my other phone that was also android so i don't think it's the launchers problem

Notification for tracking phone coming online?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 02:48 PM PST

I lost my phone this morning and started tracking it. I saw it loop around town for a bit as the battery drained, then it either died or was turned off. Instead of having to manually check into Find My Device anytime I want to check in on it, is there a way to have it automatically email me or notify me if/when it comes back online?

When viewing social media, my device has to load pictures twice?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:56 AM PST

Note: I had an iPhone for five years before switching to the Pixel 2 on release. I'm very uneducated in Android.

When I'm viewing social media, namely Reddit and Twitter, I can see the image thumbnail preview as I'm scrolling through, and it looks pretty high quality, but when I click on the image to view full screen it has to load again. It's pretty frustrating because I know the image has been downloaded already because I can see it, and I know this wasn't a thing on iPhone. I looked through the settings of each app and couldn't find anything on it. Anyone know what I'm looking for?

If there's nothing I can do about it, I'd still like to know as well. Just trying to learn more about my phone!

    moving apps to SD card?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:32 AM PST

my son has a samsung j1 8g and would like more storage for apps but i was told by the salesguy that this phone will only store pictures/music on a SD card.
he set up the SD card because "things could go bad" if you didn't know what you were doing.

he also told me that this phone would only take max 16g card. we no longer have the phone box to read the specs.

any help here would be appreciated.

Where can I purchase car and outlet chargers with two Power Delivery ports?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 01:06 PM PST

Hi. I have an Essential PH-1 and my significant other has a Moto Z (2016). Both phones can achieve their quickest charge speeds with Power Delivery.

Where can I purchase car and outlet chargers with two Power Delivery ports, and what's a good search term to use when searching Amazon for such products? Thank you.

How do you set a 16:9 image as a wallpaper?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 12:43 PM PST

I have a 16:9 image i want to set as background. There was a version of android (4th gen maybe?) where you were able to do this and the more shortcut windows it would swipe into different parts of the image.

Is there a way to do this still?
