So i have owned iPhone for 7 years... I am beginning to get really pissed off at having to do workarounds for basic tasks and the price is throwing me off. so I am wondering whats the most reliable android phone i can buy. Im looking for the size to be about the galaxy s8. Also what brands will keep up with software updates for at least 3 years?

Is there any way to force brightness or prevent an app from changing brightness without root?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 07:49 PM PST

So, I just downloaded dead space mobile and decided to finally play it through (when I first played it I ended up deleting it due to space constrains). The problem is that even though it all works perfectly, the screens backlight goes to town when the game is running in the foreground. I've looked at the permission settings and the only permissions that I can turn off are access to the sd and phone, which don't affect the brightness thing.

So, do you know of a way to force a brightness overriding a foreground app? It's annoying as heck considering I have an LCD panel.

Phone's Moto g5 plus running stock nougat.

PS4 Controller on Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 07:50 PM PST

Hi I was wondering how to fix a problem with a Bluetooth connected Dualshock 4 controller on my Samsung. Currently when the device connects for about 30 seconds the controller works absolutely perfectly and I have no issues for those 30 seconds. However after that lag starts to hit like crazy and I have to reconnect the control only to have it "die" again after another 30 seconds. I'm assuming this issue has to do with Bluetooth searching for devices and I want to know if anyone else has had this problem and if there's any solution other than using a USB, which is my only option at the moment. Thanks in advance.

[Wear] LG G Watch stops getting notifications after a while. Restarting both devices almost always fixes it, before it eventually returns (a few hours). Phone remains connected by bluetooth. How can I figure out what is causing the bug?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 02:55 PM PST

LG G Watch and Z1 Compact

    Android 4.4.4

    Android Wear 1.5.0.4047106

    Google Play Services 11.7.46

    Android (Wear) OS 6.0.1

I thought it had to do with charging and uncharging, but it happens randomly in the middle of the day, too, so I think the charging thing was just it sitting alone for several hours. I'm assuming it has something to do with another app's intermittent behavior, but don't know how to find it. Is there a log? Will debugging help?

    Music Player

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 09:45 PM PST

So I switched from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S8+ and for the most part I like it much more than any iPhone I've ever had; in fact, Idoubt I'll ever buy from Apple again.

However, there's one thing I liked about the iPhone: whenever I listened to music (I used Spotify and still do) I could see the album cover, I could rewind and skip bits of a song if I wanted, and I could see how much time it would be until the song ends. See, on my S8+ I only see the song name, the artist's name, and have the ability to skip the song or go back to the previous one. That's it.

TL;DR: Is there a way that I can see the album cover and scrub through a song from my lock screen on my Samsung Galaxy S8+ or am I pretty much boned?

What apps do you guys use for call blocking?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 05:55 PM PST

Hello everyone. Now, I do know that many newer phones comes with call blocking feature in the dialer itself but it's effective against callers you wish to permanently block as they hide the notification and everything else too related to the number.

In my case, I need call blocker to block numbers of people I don't want to be receiving calls (but still getting notification of their call being blocked) from when at home and unblock them when I leave the house. The problem with inbuilt option is that it won't show a notification and block everything from that number completely. I tried a few apps from Google Play but they all let the phone ring atleast once.

On my old phones, I kept the phone with screen face down so that one ring wasn't an issue but with my new on the way Note8, I wish to keep it screen side up and used to be able to do this natively on my Note 2 if I remember correctly.

So I wanted to know whether there is a way to block calls without them even ringing once or lighting up the screen but still getting a notification? I am fine with having to do the block/unblock manually.

    Issue with Play Store

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 09:15 PM PST

I recently bought an S8 and am having an issue with the Play Store. On the main menu to the Play Store it says "Error while receiving information from server. [DF-CHARTA-01]". Furthermore, when I search for apps I know exist, it says, "Item not found".

Any ideas how I can troubleshoot?

    Negative storage?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 12:19 PM PST

I went into my apps menu to see how much storage some of my apps were using, and I found this:

    Android glich - https://imgur.com/gallery/8ayce

I only saw that for Spotify and Netflix but because I store a lot of offline data on both. Facebook didn't have this issue, and it stores like 350MB of data.

Is there a solution for this? Anyone knows where I can submit this as an issue? Is it an android glich?

    Note 4 completely dead

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 09:00 PM PST

I got the Note 8 a couple of months ago and would like to do something different with my old Note 4. Before I (had) to buy a new phone, my Note 4 was working very poorly to the point if I turned the phone off or reset it, the phone would not turn back on. Found a little trick to take the battery out and set the phone and the battery in the fridge for 5 minutes and put it back together and it would boot back up. Battery nor the phone ever got hot to the touch. Didn't start having problems with it till I downloaded a system update. Well I need help figuring out what to do. I want to completely wipe everything off it and make it a custom phone. Meaning, custom boot loader, custom rom, root, what have you. How and where do I even begin? I know how to factory reset the phone but when I do it comes up with a dead android and says in big bold letters "Downloading target, do not turn off". That will sit forever not doing a dang thing till I pull the battery.

    Thank you

Help wanted! Galaxy S6 battery percentage jumps up and down

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 05:11 PM PST

Was wondering if anyone had my same problem and possibly advice. My phone recently started jumping battery percentages. I'll have 50% power and then out of nowhere, it drops to 1 or 2% and promtly dies. Then, when I plug it in to charge it, it jumps back up to 50%. It happens randomly so now I can't trust my device at all. The other day it died with 87% and when I turned it back on, (without charging it), it was then at 45%.

I bought a new battery on amazon today and think my best bet is to open it up and try replacing it. I've had the s6 practically since it's release date so the warranty is long gone. I don't want any current phones on the market and want this one to last me another half year at least. Any advice or similar problems? I think the battery replacement is my only option but wanted to ask you guys in case there was anything else I could do. Thanks for reading

How to make full backup of encrypted internal storage?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 08:40 PM PST

So I have an S5 with microsd card used as extended internal storage, with encryption. I want to make a full/complete backup of both internal storage and sdcard so that I can try some things and return to the current exact state if necessary.

Cloning the sdcard itself is easy - I can just power down the phone, and make a .iso clone of the sdcard. What I'm not sure how to do is how to make a full clone of the internal storage (in its encrypted form). Is there a way of doing this?

(I usually make back ups directly to my desktop having loaded up TWRP and doing a sudo adb backup --twrp, but this isn't really a full backup, which is what I want in this case.)

LG V20 unable to take pictures, cannot access media storage, after update.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 06:25 AM PST

My carrier is Verizon. Android version 7.0

On Nov 21st, I updated my system to version VS99518A from version VS99517A. Since the update, I can no longer access my media storage (photos, videos, songs), cannot open up my camera app, cannot take screenshots, nor can I access File Manager. The issue has something to do with storage, but that's all I can figure out. Here is a list of the known issues I am currently having.

    1) Opening my gallery or my music app simply displays that there are no media files in either app, as if I didn't actually have any pictures or songs downloaded on my phone.

    2) When I try to open my camera app, the app starts to open, but then shuts off, and I am taken back to the home screen where I get a prompt at the bottom of the screen that reads "camera is unavailable due to no storage.".

    3) When I try to take a screenshot, I get a prompt at the bottom of the screen that reads "Cannot take a screenshot while moving data.". I receive this prompt whether or not I have an SD card mounted.

    4) When I try to access File Manager*, I get a prompt that reads "Cannot read files. File manager will be closed. Please check Media Storage enable settings and try again."

a small note about this, but I actually *can access File Manager on startup while the SD card is being read (which takes upwards of 10 minutes to complete, but that's another issue for another day). Once the SD card has been read, I can no longer access File Manager, and the above prompt appears when I try to open it. I can also take screenshots while the SD card is being read, but once it has been read, it goes back to the above issue.

So far, I have googled all of the error messages, but that hasn't lead to anything useful. I have tried booting my phone in Safe Mode, but all of the errors happen exactly the same as in normal mode. I have tried deleting recently downloaded apps and have cleared my phones cache, but the issues still persist.

The only other thing I can think to add to this is that I am able to open my Downloads app and can see the photos, songs, and such that I have downloaded from Reddit/Google/etc.

Any help in fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated. I have a feeling I'm just going to have to take my phone in to Verizon and hopefully they can help.

Trouble restoring from a backup of my Nexus 6P to my new OnePlus 5T

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 12:42 PM PST

I've had a Nexus 6P for 2 years now and just got a OnePlus 5T. I was setting up the device today and was trying to restore from a backup of my Nexus 6P. However, it is unable to restore from the backup and just says "there aren't any backups available on your other device". I've tried this at least 5 times now (factory resetting my OP5T each time to try and set it up using a backup) but every time it gives the same error message. I searched online for similar problems among other users and it seems to be a problem with Google's backup, but couldn't find any definitive answers. One thing to note is that when I look at what's been backed up on my N6P it says that everything's been backed up in the past 24 hours except call history, which is "waiting to backup." Any help would be much appreciated!

    Having Bluetooth connection issues

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 11:48 AM PST

TL;DR - Bluetooth headset connected for media audio only will randomly disconnect, which routes audio to the phone speakers which causes issues in an office, and will then reconnect just as randomly. Headset is an LG HBS850, new headset that seems to have caused the problem is a MPOW, problem exists for any media audio connected device, even if MPOW is not connected.

I have an LG HBS 850 (Tone Active), had it for about 6 mo. Seems to have worked fine this whole time except that the mic is crap, probably due to the waterproofing. All the functionality is there, no issue. Well I changed jobs and now I need a headset where I can conference call and be heard well. So I got a cheapish headset on amazon, good reviews on call quality, MPOW is the brand. So I pair both headsets turn the call audio off on the phone settings for the LG. Seems great I can listen to music, books, ect and when a call comes in I take it on the other headset.
Problem now is that the LG will randomly disconnect and reconnect for no apparent reason this happens whether the other is connected or not.

And its not just the LG, i tried another LG headset, a sony speaker, and my wifes VW stereo, all of them have the same issue.

My samsung Galaxy S4 mini won't turn on, doesn't vibrate, can't launch recovery or download

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 04:18 AM PST

So a few hours back I picked up my phone, but it didn't respond. A few minutes earlier it worked fine, and now it just seems dead. I cannot launch recovery mode or download mode. The phone does not respond to me holding the power button, there is no vibration and no visuals on the screen. Removing the battery and plugging it back in does not work. Leaving it charge for a while does not work. (assuming that it even charges). When I plug in the phone into my PC via cable I hear a sound that something is connected, but it doesn't show up on 'My PC'.

    What do I do?

    Samsung Galaxy S2 wont boot

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 04:38 PM PST

On Friday my phone, a Samsung Galaxy S2, shutdown and wouldn't boot.

The phone had been in use in the morning however when I came to use it in the afternoon it was only displaying the initial splash screen. It hadn't been dropped or otherwise damaged and I also hadn't updated it or changed any software or configurations.

Pulling the battery and waiting didn't help, so I tried entering safe mode and recovery mode by holding their respective button combinations when powered on, but the phone only displays the same splash screen and nothing further happened.

The only combination that works is volume down + home + power bringing me into download (odin) mode. After reading around it appeared this would at least allow me to replace the operating system, which I assume is corrupted.

I downloaded the odin software from Sammobile (v3.12.7), the Samsung USB drivers for mobiles, the 4.1.2 Vodafone UK firmware from updato, and used their guide to attempt to flash the firmware.

Unfortunately the process hangs at boot.bin and eventually fails

At this stage I'm assuming that there is some physical damage to the phone, such as a blown capacitor or broken tracks on the PCB, but I just don't know.

If anyone has help, advice or insight into the problem I would be very appreciative to hear it.

Galaxy Tab S3 9.7 mirror screen to tv? Adapter options??

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 12:35 PM PST

I'm looking to buy a Galaxy Tab S3 9.7 for my brother, But he needs the ability to connect it to a non-smart basic Tv. I have read that the adapters that you plug in the USB do not work for this device. He wants to be able to stream videos (youtube, Netflix, etc) and also the android games he likes to play. I would really appreciate any assistance anyone can give me as I'm kind of lost.
