Posted: 03 May 2022 06:04 PM PDT The budget is a flexible $1500 and 32 gb minimum! I would very much appreciate laptops with specs good enough to run the programs above fairly well. Currently looking at the Lenovo legion 5 pro (32 gb version), are these type of specs (r7 5800h + 32 gb + rtx 3060) optimal? I would love suggestions at this price range and with the above requirements in mind please!! Other info: Looks don't necessarily matter Screen should be 15.6 in minimum Decent enough battery life (just not absolutely inconvenient) Prioritize performance/bang for your buck for the given budget more than anything [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop to use for web development and basic game development. Posted: 03 May 2022 06:13 PM PDT *Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. If indifferent, put N/A. *Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. *If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? *Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? *Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. The Framework Laptop also looks really nice and I love what the company is doing. But the frame itself just seems weak and I hear that the bezels are designed to be opened one handed which leads to the screen shaking a bit. I can't find any video footage to see how bad it is though. [link] [comments] |
Laptop for programming, (Range max: 2000 USD) USA Posted: 03 May 2022 07:13 PM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: I'd prefer to stay as close as possible to 1500 USD or less but I think I can comfortably go up to 2000 USD Are you open to refurbs/used? Sure. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance, build quality, battery life, form factor How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Around 14" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Most I would play is Classic WoW and RuneScape but probably a rare chance of that. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Number pad would be nice but not decisive. Touch-screen and finger-print reader undesirable but not decisive. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I will be using this laptop for hobby programming, mostly Java, C# maybe some Python. I prefer Linux distros and was very interested in the Dell XPS 13 plus with Ubuntu but I'm wondering what else is out there. I am not completely against Mac or Windows. I'd like atleast 16G of RAM to be an option and 2TB SSD as an option. [link] [comments] |
Alternative to Surface for pen/stylus Posted: 03 May 2022 10:47 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
1000 euros
if covered by a solid warranty
Performance is important. I'd like to have a good amount of storage, and good stylus/pen performance
As long as it's not a brick.
between 11-15 in
No CAD. Occasional editing of video and photos, but not professional. Notetaking, portable 'library' of books (PDF, images, epub) and documents, etc.
Not really concerned with gaming as long as it can play a few Retro emulators.
Can't be too creaky. :)
So.. I have owned an ipad pro (2017 10.5" model w/ 256gb) and a few models before it. I want to replace it with a more capable machine- and I really don't want to spend 2k on an ipad pro with sufficient storage. I have it basically set-up so it is a portable library of books (various image heavy PDFs) and other EPUB books for reading. I'm low on storage, so something with more space would be good. I use the stylus for annotating and sometimes journalling, but I tend to fall back on the keyboard for fast typing. So a good stylus experience is strongly desired. A Surface Go 3 sounds good in theory but according to specs, it is apparently slower than my current iPad. Also, this is not my only computing device. I use a desktop PC. [link] [comments] |

Chasing unicorns? Light, bright, long-lasting might Posted: 03 May 2022 09:55 PM PDT Please recommend an ultraportable that fits the following requirements: Main use: Windows applications, Microsoft Office applications Priorities: Portability and flexibility more important than raw performance. Windows is a must (need to run proprietary programs), not a chromebook or ARM. Screen 14" to 15", FHD (1080p is OK, 16:10 or 3:2 is better). matte! Bright enough to use outdoors (400+ nits). Higher resolution usually comes with lower battery life. Weight 3lb or less for 14", less than 4lb for 15" Battery Long-lasting, really long-lasting, preferably Macbook level of long-lasting. Long hours of use at max brightness (outdoors) on wifi with no outlet in sight. Storage and memory RAM: 8GB SSD: NVME 256GB minimum, more preferred Price and availability Available in Canada. Refurbished OK. Used OK. Preferably under CA$1000, flexible. Additional info Undervoltable will be nice. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Replacement for XPS 13 9360 - USA, $1200-$2000ish Posted: 03 May 2022 09:50 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
$1200-$2000, USD in USA. At the high end I would want something quite future proof.
No
My current XPS 13 9360 is the perfect balance of these things for me. Only reason I wouldn't just buy a new one is because of the lack of USB-A. Build Quality very important, Performance important, Ultrabook form factor moderately important, battery life nice to have.
Moderately important
Totally fine with 13", would not want above 15".
Run some Photoshop, dabble in lightweight video editing. Minimal gaming but some, so I need a machine that can handle all of that at least acceptably.
Overcooked, lighter stuff like Mini Motorways, OK with less-than-top FPS/quality settings.
USB-A port is nearly a requirement. I use an external keyboard that only has a USB-A and only works properly when directly connected (it always has major problems when connected through a dock) Touch screen nice to have.
My current XPS 13 9360 is the perfect blend of performance, quality, and portability for me. I would definitely just buy a new XPS 13 if not for its lack of USB-A. [link] [comments] |
Gaming Laptop Help - Overwhelmed With Options Posted: 03 May 2022 09:23 PM PDT Hello all. I am looking for a gaming laptop. I have a budget around $2,000. My current device is a M1 Mac, but as you can imagine most games do not work on M1, even with Parallels. I mainly play Xbox games on PC. I also run RetroArch, including PS2, Dreamcast, etc. I have been browsing BestBuy, but there are too many options. I prefer to stick with Ryzen for CPU. I am fine with either AMD/Nvidia for graphics card. The most intense PC game I play is Sword and Fairy 7. I am fine without 4K gaming, but I am uneasy about 1080P after being used to my Retina Mac. Here are some I was looking at: My only other requirement is looks. Being a Mac person, I'm sure you understand that mentality. I don't mind RGB, but I also don't want a massive monster looking thing, haha. Something sleek, but efficient. Let me know your thoughts either with my choices, or your own personal thoughts. Posted: 03 May 2022 08:35 PM PDT Would like some info on the differences between the LG Gram 17 2022 and the 2021. On Amazon are the only 2022 ones labeled '2022' or are some of the others this year as well (and if so, whats the easiest way to tell)? Is there much of a difference between the 2 years models other than the CPU, and is that alone a big enough difference to justify getting this year over last? Does the WQXGA screen justify a higher price (meaning, is it that much better?) [link] [comments] |
Solid Non-Gaming Streaming Laptop help! Posted: 03 May 2022 08:27 PM PDT Hello, I'll let you know what I'm looking to use the laptop for. I sell collectible items online live. I'm looking to use OBS with two cameras connected. One would be phone connected wirelessly. Other would be HD Webcam plugged into laptop. I will then broadcast the stream to the website I use. Currently my laptop is outdated. Dealing with dropped frames and blurriness at times. I want a laptop that can handle these processes without any issues. If it so happens that I need a gaming computer then that's fine, I'm just not planning on using it for that really. I'm unsure how much the graphics card comes into play with this situation. Any advice/suggestions on what to buy would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Student needing a laptop for College (United States, $1000-$1200 USD) Posted: 03 May 2022 02:09 PM PDT Hello Everyone, I'm an incoming freshman in college and am looking to buy a laptop for school. I will be majoring in accounting so I just need this for simple programs like Microsoft office , no video editing, 3d work or gaming. I'm open to any suggestions, if you think I don't need a certain spec please let me know. I don't like MACs, and Windows is more popular in the professional world, so please no MACs, although I know that their M1 MacBooks are the best for the price. thanks
- for storage I think 512GB is best since I'll need to use it for 4 years and don't want to run out of space. 16GB RAM for memory is preferred but again not sure if its totally necessary, open to suggestions. -I think I'd like an 11th gen intel i5 or i7 (not sure what level I need) or an AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPU, which I've heard are more efficient than the intel 11 gen ones. Let me know your thoughts on what CPU I should look for as well.

It has a 17" 120hz Full HD display, Ryzen 7 4800H processor, a GTX 1660Ti, 16Gb ram, and 1TB of storage. Student/General use laptop for 500-750 Posted: 03 May 2022 05:31 PM PDT Hi, I'm looking for any recommendations for general use laptops. I'll mainly be using it for watching shows, browsing the internet, schoolwork, and playing some games. Preferably lighter weight with a decent battery life (6+ hours) and a good build quality. I'd really rather avoid Apple computers (not really used to them) and MSI (only had one but bad build quality). Thank you! Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $500 - 750 USD (Not a hard limit but around this range) Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Form factor is not important. I don't need 2-1 or touchscreen or any of that. Preferably 6+ hours battery life Good build quality (My last computer had really bad hinges which was really annoying) How important is weight and thinness to you? Preferably under 3-4 pounds. Thinness is a plus but not that important. I just don't want a clunky laptop Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Ideally 15.6 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No video/photo editing. Some light gaming such as Genshin Impact. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Genshin impact is probably the most "intensive" game I'll be playing. Mid-graphic settings is enough for me (or even low isn't that big of a deal). At least 30 fps (60 is nice but not required) Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I don't need touch screen or a fingerprint reader. Good build quality is very important since I don't want to buy a new laptop anytime soon. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Preferably a laptop that doesn't make too much noise with the fan and doesn't overheat that easily. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! [link] [comments] |

Computer science/gaming laptop for college Posted: 03 May 2022 03:04 PM PDT
Very flexible but I'd probably say no more than 2000$, although if it was definitely worth it I'd consider.
Sure
Performance matters most, battery life would also be very important (or Atleast have a good charger) and I don't want it to be super RGB or "gamer" looking if that makes sense. (I could always get a case though I just don't want something that looks stupid lol)
Not super important, but I don't want a brick in my backpack obviously
Not super small (13 inches) not super big (like 17 inches)
I used to edit as a side job, I don't do it much anymore but it would be nice to be able to run photoshop, after effects, premiere, Lightroom etc
I mostly play rust and valorant, but I do occasionally like playing single player games aswell and whatever new multiplayer game comes out. I'd like 120 hz if possible and I'd like to be able to play at low/medium settings easily.
Nah
Would also love a screen resolution above 1080p. I was looking at the asus zephyrus g15 but I wanna see what else could be out there. Also if you guys have any reviews or thoughts on the g15 that'd be great! Thanks [link] [comments] |
Music Recording and Gaming Laptop if possible US $1000 Posted: 03 May 2022 02:42 PM PDT
$1000, but cheaper if there isn't an appreciable difference.
No.
Performance matters most.
Not at all
N/A
Some music producing... Fruity Loops and Adobe Premiere for sound recording.
I mostly play lowfi games... but let's say that maybe I want to play GTA Online.
None
Mostly looking for something that is cost effective. I guess I'm more interested in the difference between a 500 to 1000 dollar computer. [link] [comments] |

From Sweden looking for gaming laptop below $1500 Posted: 03 May 2022 02:35 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
15 000 SEK (Sweden)
No
The only reason I'm getting a laptop is so I can bring it with me when I move between my parents' homes and other places where I will just be using it plugged in. I also have a pretty large bag so size isn't an issue. Will get to performance later.
Not at all.
N/A
I do some 3D modelling, currently in MS 3D Builder but I plan on upgrading to blender or CAD at some point. I also plan on doing some occasional gaming. Windows required.
Jedi Fallen Order sequel, Hogwarts Legacy, Scrap Mechanic, Universe Sandbox (might have forgotten something). As high settings as possible with smooth FPS (I literally don't know anything about this stuff but I've heard at least Intel core i5/AMD Ryzen 5 and RTX 3050/GTX 1060 and 144hz display are enough but something a little more powerful for future-proofing's sake would be nice)
Good keyboard and touchpad and build quality are always nice. Nothing required though.
Design is pretty important to me. Gaming laptops tend to either look like cheap blocks of plastic or criminally over-designed spaceships with RGB lights beaming everywhere. I know it's possible to strike a nice balance though, even leaning towards either of the two extremes, so that's where I'm aiming. Just note: If it's black with red details I'm not interested. Always hated that design trend. For reference, this ASUS TUF A17 that I found using this Pricerunner search (translate the sites) caught my eye with it's clean, yet leaning over-designed, design. On the opposite end, the recent HP Omens are really nice and simplistic-looking. I probably forgot something and I realize I provided the most info about my design preferences lol, but I hope this is an adequate amount of info. Thanks in advance for any potential help! :) [link] [comments] |
