Videos on my laptops take forever to load.

So as the title said, so this is not an issue with my browser (Chrome) because I checked other browsers and had the same issue, it's not an issue only with Youtube because it happens on other websites and on discord as well, so it's a thing with my OS. Please, anyone know how to fix this?

[Need Advice] MB Air base model vs New Inspiron 5320 (i7 1260p, 16gb)

    Posted: 31 May 2022 12:06 AM PDT

    Hello

I'm considering buying a laptop for portable browsing and some development, doesn't need to be a desktop replacement since i already have a powerful desktop with a 3080. I'm currently looking at two options MB Air M1 base model (8gb, 256GB) or the New Inspiron 5320 (i7 1260p, 16gb). The inspiron is cheaper and the specs are as follows:

    Processor : 12 Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1260P (18 MB cache, 12 cores, 16 threads, up to 4.70 GHz Turbo)

Operating System : Windows 11 Home, English

    Video Card : Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics

    Memory : 16 GB, LPDDR5, 4800 MHz, integrated

Hard Drive : 512 GB, M.2, PCIe NVMe, SSD

    Display : 13.3", QHD+ 2560x1600, 60Hz, Non-Touch, AG, WVA, 300 nit, ComfortView Plus

    Warranty : 1Y In-Home Hardware Service

Keyboard : Titan Grey English International Backlit Keyboard

    Wireless : Intel® Wi-Fi 6E (6GHz) AX211 2x2 Bluetooth 5.2 Wireless Card

    Battery : 4 Cell, 54 Wh, integrated

It has double the ram and storage and apparently a similarly powerful CPU. I can't find any reviews though and the Macbook Air is highly regarded, so i'm not sure, would appreciate advice, thanks.

[HELP] Connecting 2 external monitors to 1 laptop?

    Posted: 30 May 2022 11:20 PM PDT

    Laptop: MSI GF66 11UE

Hi /r/laptops, I just recently got this laptop for everyday use/gaming purposes and was wondering if a 2 monitor setup is possible. It has one HDMI port, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type C port, two USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, and one USB 2.0.

Does the Type C port in this laptop support video out? If so, can someone recommend a device that will allow me to setup a 2 external monitor setup? (The two external monitors only have HDMI and DVI).

Any advice is appreciated! Thank you.

I bought tuf A15 2021 edition a week ago and just noticed this slight rise in the upper right corner of the mouse pad. The third pic is of left corner for comparison. Should i exchange it? It didn't cause any problem and on pressing gets back into position before rising again. What should I do?

Elitebook owners, how's the long term experience? (considering used 855 G7)

    Posted: 30 May 2022 10:41 PM PDT

I have a chance to buy a 2 year old Elitebook 855 G7 (Ryzen 5, and it has been upgraded with a 1Tb Samsung Evo+ and an extra 8Gb ram - it has 16Gb total). The battery capacity is at about 87%. Total cost is $460.

I had HP consumer laptops in the past, and they would fall apart within a year or 2. Some of the worst junk I've had (talking pavilion and envy). I've had the same with Dell and Lenovo - also junk but lasted a bit longer and had other issues (Dell seems to be the best in terms of stability - but the consumer ones seem to run hot and have bad battery life). The only other business line I've had was Lenovo - an X220 with an amazing keyboard, but dead pixels and a failed SD card reader within months, a cracked chassis even though I was careful with it, and the AS is horrendous.

My gf did buy an Elitebook 845 G7 - some of the function keys wouldn't work (even with correct drivers) and it was sent to HP, now they work fine - but occasionally it needs a restart because the fingerprint reader, infrared cam or brightness keys stop working. Apart from that - I love the keyboard, screen, touchpad, and upgradeability, battery life and most of all how quiet it is - which is why I'm still considering this one.

For those who've used Elitebooks for a while, please comment on these Qs and concerns:

*Are the glitches above the norm and will eventually escalate into a long string of issues like the consumer line, or has your system been stable?

*I had a look at some used 845 G7s online locally and I'm seeing battery capacity drops of over 40% in about a year. Is this a problem with HP business PCs? It seems way higher than it should be.

    * Have you found that lots of replacements, workaround and services are needed - or has your just remained working as should (the hardware)?

*Does the larger one also have long battery life and runs quiet? I hear the Samsung Evo can run kind of hot - so wouldn't want that to up the fan noise or decrease battery life.

I'm considering the above because the price is low and business class laptops SHOULD last longer (and I love the keyboard, trackpad, physical buttons and 400nit screen), but I would pay more and just get a used Mac if it's just like the consumer line and will be an endless list of failed parts and broken drivers. I want it to be a workhorse for a good 5 years more.

Any feedback on the quality of your elitebook experience and how long it's lasted will be appreciated (particularly for the 855 G7!).

Questions about 2 ASUS laptops I’m interested on for 3D modelling in Maya

    Posted: 31 May 2022 02:09 AM PDT

I've been looking at buying a laptop for 3D modelling in maya.

Just as a disclosure, I don't know much about computers and a lot of my research has been based on how other people have said that these laptops have been good for them for 3D modelling/animation.

The first laptop I'm interested on is the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15 Gaming laptop, intel core i9 processor, 16GB RAM, 2TB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, 15.6" WQHD (this laptop costs £2399.99 on the UK)

The other laptop I'm interested on is the ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16 Laptop, intel core i9 Processor, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD, GeForce RTX 3060, 16" 4K Ultra HD OLED (sold at £3299.99 in the UK)

So I've got the following questions

    1) are both of these laptops good for 3D modelling? Or is there anything in their specifications that should be a red flag for me?

    2) is the ProArt StudioBook 16 really worth the extra £900? Or would the Strix SCAR 15 do a good enough job for me?

Laptop with an OLED display. Bad idea or really bad idea?

    Posted: 30 May 2022 08:01 PM PDT

I'm looking to buy a laptop and I've narrowed it down to two: an Acer with a conventional display and an Asus with an OLED display. The price is the same and the specs are pretty similar.

As far as I know OLED displays suffer from burn in but I haven't bought a laptop in a few years so my knowledge is a bit obsolete. I don't know if this is an SSD situation where the first ones would die out quickly but they now last indefinitely. I understand that the laptop has pixel shift countermeasures but I don't know if this is enough.

I haven't bought a laptop in a few years so my knowledge might as well be medieval.

How to tell if it's a bad windows 11 install or ssd swap?

    Posted: 30 May 2022 10:12 PM PDT

How can I tell if my issue with the battery bar disappearing is related with W11 install or the SSD upgrade I did on my Surface Pro 7+(via the method suggested on youtube). Thank you.

    Durable Laptop Reccomendation

    Posted: 30 May 2022 10:06 PM PDT

    Hi All!

I am really not tec savy at all, so apoligies if I'm a little slow, but I'm going to give you my best rundown that I can.

Alright so, I need a laptop reccomendation because my wonderful, deeply beloved Hp Envy 13" is giving up the ghost - it's hinges have gone, a common issue, apparently. I've had it repaired...prehaps 2 or 3 times now and it's now got to the point where I've spent almost double the amount of what I paid for it fixing it. It's only 18 months old, and the repair has always failed within 2/3 months. Suprisingly, I've actually not dropped it or anything - though that's nothing short of a miracle, it just seems to one day it's left hinge decides it no longer wants to be here and gives up. As I understand it, HP have had a class action filed against them. It's also worth noting that despite this being a well documented manufacturer issue HP is set on refusing to cover it under warranty, and I have had hell chasing them around.

Well, no longer. I am done, and as much as I love it, it is time to say goodbye because I need a reliable laptop that isn't costing me 500/600 quid to fix every 3 months - money I legitamately do not have, but have been forced to invest because a laptop is essential for me to be able to continue college and I will have to drop out without one.

So, things about me / and my use:

    • I use a laptop mainly for studying. This can be on the more hardcore end for studying, Right now I've got 83 (I counted) tabs open on chrome, I've got two more windows with another 15 or so tabs open on them, I've got 15 programs running in the backround, including netflix. I don't game and I don't need a super fancy laptop but I am chaotic in my approch, there is always something streaming, and at the absalute baseline minimum I'll have chrome, word, my AAC app aand excel going with multiple tabs /windows as appropriate. No, I cannot scale it back, i have tried and failed.
    • Aside from that it's personal use / browsing, writing up boring documents, streaming etc
    • It's worth noting I use this thing for like 22 hours a day every day. I am not kidding. I study from home at the moment due to the unreliability of my envy as I cannot communicate without it. It is always on and streaming something as I don't have a tv (see: had to sell it to pay for my first repair). I am on it from the second I wake up till 5/6 am when its battery dies as i like to fall asleep to netflix or an audiobook or somthing. Being that as it is, the envy does tend to overheat and struggle sometimes.
    • I'm in two minds about portability. It would be nice to have the option I think, but honestly the last time I carried a laptop anywhere was back in 2015 and that was a school owned laptop - a 1994 IBM Thinkpad. It was hell.
    • It's worth noting I've multiple disabilities so some accesibility features, specifically external device control would be nice, but is 100% not something I'm set on.
    • On the line of my disabilities, I need this thing to communicate, I don't have an ipad anymore (See: also had to sell that to pay for repairs of my envy) so it is my one device, my go to for everything, I am typing constantly for 16 hours some days. A usable interface, a comfortable keyboard, and durability are key features.
    • I am clumsy. I am epileptic. It would be nice if this thing was a bit more rugged than my envy. I'm not saying it has to come hiking with me up Kilimanjaro or deep sea diving, but it would be nice if it didn't spontaniously combust if I dropped it, or i bumped it into a wall, or seized and kicked it off the bed.
    • On the clumsy line- i need a brand with good customer service. I do not want to deal with hp again. I understand accidents aren't covered under warranty, that's fine, though an add on accident cover would be nice, I more mean if the laptop screen pops off 1 month into using it I'm not going to get blamed as a consumer and have the brand refuse to acknowlage me past blaming me. A level of tec support would be great
    • chromebooks i feel are out of the question due to thier inability to run word etc and also their dependancy on a wifi connection. Also thier processors tend to be on the slower / lower end side
    • this is really irrelivent but I mean something that can be wiped down easy without fear of giving it water damage would be great.

Things I love about my envy:

    • The speed of it (it's got an intel i5 processor, have absalutely no idea what generation but this laptop was bought in dec 2020 if that helps)
    • it's display (again folk, not a huge issue for me)
    • the lack of bezzles - idk it's a personal prefrence but it looks extremly sleek and cute not a mobility aid or a childproofed toy
    • the sound is a pretty nice quality on it also
    • Its super light
    • It has actually had some water spilt on it and was fine
    • it has an aux port
    • it has a camera
    • it has a fingerprint sensor
    • it has a "cut camera " button
    • i mean like i'm not a hard person to impress, if it's quick enough, has a visable screen and is funtional i'm happy

    What I hate:

    • It's battery life is very short, like 2/3 hours. With how i use it, I can't complain that much but like- i'd prefer a slightly longer battery (yes i am extremly careful to take the charger out when its charged and only charge it when its going to die)
    • repair costs / hinge issues
    • HP. That's all.
    • It does tend to overheat

Things I know about me and my prefrences:

    • Anything slower than an intel i5 (Again fuck knows about the generation) is too slow for me
    • I need an aux port
    • I need a camera
    • I need- if not a good battery life an okay one, or one that will not die after 30 min
    • I have a prefrence for 13 -15inch monitors, nothing smaller for sure
    • I hate the look of bezzles, so big thick ones (like an inch) are a no go
    • I give not 2 shits about display or audio and to be honest i wouldn't know quality if it punched me in the face. As long as it's decent and tolarable to watch a movie on and look at for 95% of my waking hours it's okay. I am not joking. I see more of this thing than i do my partner, my own face, any living being, grass, or sky
    • I am happy to shell out now, but I want a good 3+ years of service. At least. My old hp pavilion lasted me almost 8 years i think it was and is still going strong. I don't use it as it'sa bit too heavy 4.5lbs vs my envy which weighs 3lbs. Also, my ex stole it. But I know it's working because they send me photos of it runnnig and working fine a lot.
    • Similararly, my brothers hp pavillion has literally fallen apart after 5 years so-
    • My budget is ideally around the 1000-1500 mark. I can go up to 2k or possibly 2.5k for a completely exceptional machine that truly knocks the competition out of the water. In case you've not gathered I don't really have loads to spend, I just know that I probably need to bite the bullet if i want a quality machine that is going to realistically take about 4 years of almost 24/7 use

    Thank you all!

My laptop won't turn on while unplugged from charger.

    Posted: 30 May 2022 07:54 PM PDT

My Acer Nitro 5 won't turn on unless the charger is plugged in. When I unplug it, my laptop completely shuts down and restarts. I've had this laptop for about a year and a half and it was working perfectly fine earlier today and yesterday. So what are my options here? Can I fix it myself? Do I need to get it fixed? Or am I SOL?
