    MSI 15.6" Raider GE66 12UH-009PT vs LENOVO Legion 7 16ACHg6

    Posted: 03 May 2022 08:28 AM PDT

    Recommendation

    Greetings,

So I really want to buy a good high end laptop but not spend to the point its not worth the upgrade. So with that being said Im looking at 3080 rtx laptops only, as 3080ti laptops seem a bit too expensive for the power performance difference.

So both of the these two laptops below cost 2800 euros and Im getting crazy in which one to pick. On one side the MSI raider has a 14 core processor and has better overall performance in gaming, but has 8gb GGDR6 with the 3080 vs the Lenovo legion (which has 16gb GGDR6 3080).

If you have one of these, which one do you think should I go for?

    LENOVO Legion 7 16ACHg6:

    AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX (8 cores, 3.3 ghz)

    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 16GB GDDR6, Boost Clock 1545 / 1710MHz, TGP 165W

    RAM: 32 GB

    1 TB SSD

    16''

    GeForce RTX 3080 8GB GDDR6 (125W+20W)

Looking for a Good Quality Laptop to Play Simple Games

    Posted: 03 May 2022 08:00 AM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Purchasing from Japan 78,000 Japanese Yen budget

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      No

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I want it to be able to play my games with no stuttering. That being the case, I don't know what form factor is best for me.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important if it means I can play my games.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

The bigger and clearer the picture the better.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I will be gaming. Games are listed below.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

I will only be playing games such as League of Legends, Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact, Osu, Rocket League, and maybe Apex Legends. I want to be able to run them at High Settings with at least 144 FPS on everything but Apex Legends. I doubt I can reach past 90 with Apex.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

The build has to be enough to run my games. I also prefer a laptop with a good screen resolution! Above 1080p would be nice.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Although my budget is in YEN, places such as Amazon let me buy things with USD. I don't mind paying a little bit more to get what I want. Additionally, I don't mind dropping the Apex Legends requirement as long as I get to play my other games at a good quality setting!

Thank you for taking your time to read this and for giving your input!

I need a laptop for college (graphic design) as well some gaming. Budget is $1400 CAD maximum.

    Posted: 03 May 2022 06:24 AM PDT

    Hello,

I'm wanting to buy a new laptop for college. I will need it for some gaming, editing, running programs like illustrator, photoshop etc. I also do illustration as a hobby.

I'm looking into a laptop that's on sale at a local store and I'm wondering if this is a good deal and if you guys have any other suggestions. Im also wondering if the 3060 is necessary/worth the extra money for something like graphic design? I don't think I'll be running too many games that are incredibly intense and I'm not someone that needs to max everything out for gaming.

I can't afford to spend more than $1400 CAD.

    The laptop is a Sword 15 A11UE-241CA w/ Core™ i7-11800H, 16GB, 512GB NVMe SSD, 15.6in Full HD 144Hz, GeForce RTX 3060, Wi-Fi 6, BT, Win 10 Home for $1400 CAD after taxes (roughly $1090 USD)

    Thank you!

Help me choose between these laptops, considering returning my first pick (just a few links)

    Posted: 03 May 2022 05:50 AM PDT

So for some reason I just found a few laptops that meet all my criteria after settling on another one that will be delivered tomorrow. My criteria is 12+gb ram, 512gb+ ssd, usb-c charging, and full size sd card reader -- This is not for gaming, but I run quite a few websites that I need halfway decent graphics for editing and speed for frequent 5gb transfers

Here is what I ordered (settling on most criteria minus the sd card reader) https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga-7i-2-in-1-15-6-hdr-touch-screen-laptop-intel-evo-platform-core-i7-12gb-memory-512gb-solid-state-drive-dark-moss/6426713.p?skuId=6426713

Here are the 2 Hp laptops that actually meet ALL my criteria, I just dont ever look at Hp cause they seem like a dying brand (I honestly have no idea though) -- All I see is the 15m-es1023dx has 400 nits vs 250 nits and also has a longer battery life, am I missing anything else there?

Decent, future-proof gaming laptop [Poland, under 6000 pln/1250 eur]

    Posted: 03 May 2022 04:55 AM PDT

Hello! I'm looking for some suggestions for a new gaming laptop, to replace my 5 years old Acer Aspire VX15. (well, "new" - probably something solid from 2021 considering the current prices). I'd prefer more of a list of possibilities that I can look out for and try to grab on sale than one model.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
As in the title, I'd like to spend at max 6000 pln (or around 1250 euro), would like to purchase it in Poland but if the delivery isn't horribly expensive I could also import from another European country.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      Probably not.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Build quality and performance come first, don't care at all about the battery.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
      Don't care.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      N/A
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Gaming! I would like to be able to run new games at low-medium settings for about 4-5 years. Currently I'm mostly playing FFXIV, but I'd like to run Elden Ring and the like as well.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
As above, right now mostly FFXIV and Elden Ring. Elden Ring at around medium settings, preferably more, at 60 fps. Maybe Dying Light 2. Some slightly older but demanding stuff like Monster Hunter World, maybe Horizon Zero Dawn. I don't often play brand new games but I'd like it to be technically possible for me to play them.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Backlit keyboard would be a nice bonus. Extra slots so I can add more RAM/storage space later on would be great.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I have a smaller laptop strictly for coding/uni work, so this new one would basically spend its entire life on a couch, probably connected to power 24/7 (sadly I don't have the space to just buy a pc).
Would like good vents/cooling (...for a laptop), heat management is the biggest issue with my current one (it's served me well but even with semi regular professional cleaning, slight undervolting and replacing the fans the temps just keep going up). Easy cleaning would be a huge bonus, I have a cat and fur gets stuck everywhere. I don't mind if it looks or feels cheap on the outside (as long as it's not falling apart) if the inside is solid. I would like it to last for at least 5 years (with regular maintenance/small repairs).

    Thanks for any suggestions!
