- Idk if someone already noticed this, but this has been on my mind ever since I first saw it. The Windows 11 Portable device icon, if im not mistaken, it a throwback to Microsoft's failed "Zune" mp3 player.

Windows login delay shows how out of touch they are Posted: 27 Apr 2022 04:31 PM PDT First, it is impossible to stop Windows Update. Ridiculous, but now that they're a virtual monopoly, they changed the license to subscription agreement which makes it a requirement to update. But, they have put, even the most minor update, ahead of a user's need to use the computer. If you turn off/sleep your computer for a week, or even a day, when you log back in, even on a session you slept, it takes a minimum 5 minutes and usually more like 10 minutes to become usable. I have 1 Gigabit Internet that measures Speedtest at 940 Gbps on this computer. It's a 2.6 Ghz i5 with 16GB memory. I have no complaints about performance after Windows finishes it's nonsense at login. God forbid I have a busy day and don't have 10-15 minutes to wait for non-value added activity. It's even worse on older machines. This has to stop. Users need to be able to truly suspend Windows Update and just boot. Even if you set the setting to pause updates, it still takes five minutes to figure that out and apply defender updates anyway. [link] [comments]

Would a program on Windows 10 that is unsupported (cracked) run just as well on Windows 11? Posted: 27 Apr 2022 04:26 AM PDT Linux user here so excuse my ignorance. I run a cracked Premiere Pro 2015 on my Windows 10 install and recently made the switch to 11. When rendering a video that normally would take x amount of time on Windows 10, I was noticing it was taking a bit longer to render on my new Windows 11 install. Is just coincidence or would a program that was made for an older version of windows not run too well on Windows 11? [link] [comments]

Windows returnee looking for a bandwidth monitor Posted: 26 Apr 2022 11:03 AM PDT I have returned back to the Windows fold after a fifteen year Mac dalliance finally ended a few months ago; I am LOVING IT. I have managed to replace almost all of the Mac applications I was using, with the exception of possibly the smallest, Peakhour, a fantastic little bit of software that does just one thing. It remotely monitors the bandwidth usage on your router either via SNMP or uPnP, and gives you a handy little display that shows you in real-time the traffic levels on your router. This is great for keeping an eye on what all the other devices on your network are up to. The only tools I have found for Windows either monitor just the bandwidth on your PC (not what I am interested in), or are heavy IT focused network management tools. Are there any similar tools to Peakhour for Windows that I can try? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2022 07:35 AM PDT Installed Windows Me on my old PC (the irony is that Windows 98 was way less stable when I tried it) and I need to know what to format my secondary hard drive as (80GB). FAT32 is inefficient over 32GB, and NTFS is only supported in Windows NT. What should I format it as? Are there decent 3rd party NTFS drivers available? [link] [comments]
In what way is Windows a DRM-ed operating system? Posted: 26 Apr 2022 10:41 AM PDT Hi all, Do people mean Microsoft spies on you with basic diagnostic data (not really DRM in the traditional sense I know)? The fact they can revoke your Microsoft Windows license at any time or something along those lines? Thanks in advance. I want my media and if possible my OS DRM-free whenever possible.
