Windows keeps detecting a Trojan inside my HDD* from a file/folder that no longer exists

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 11:24 PM PDT

Just made a post saying that the malware was in my SSD. I'm an idiot: it's an HDD not an SSD. Anyways onto the post:

Bit of context: I downloaded a small Zip file from a site called Ziperto, which contained a .exe called "Setup". I moved the file over to my HDD before I unzipped it, because that's where I wanted the files to go. Also another detail if it helps: unpacking the file required a password. I thought that a lonely .exe file called Setup was somewhat suspicious, so I didn't touch it. Lo and behold, 5 seconds after that Windows gave me the warning that there was a Trojan called Azorult inside the .exe. I proceeded to throw the files into Trash and deleted them.

Now here's the thing, I've ran Windows scan several times and its still telling me about the Trojan inside the file, even though the file itself is gone and the HDD isn't plugged in. What should I do? Is my PC actually still at risk?

Thanks very much in advance! I'm running Windows 10, and my HDD is a Toshiba PC L200. Also, I'm currently following the r/techsupport 's Official Malware Removal Guide as a precaution.

Sporadic ping spikes, intermittent network freezes on PC for ~5 seconds

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 05:30 PM PDT

Every 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes or so my wifi will freeze up for a solid 5 seconds; in voice calls, there is suddenly pure silence when this happens until it goes back to normal along with my internet and I hear people talking again, and in games, everything stops moving (or keeps moving in that direction) until the moment passes and I teleport back to where I was. Been having this issue for a while, I'd say at least a year. Have tried various things like flushing my dns, getting an external adapter, updating my PC, updating and rolling back my network drivers and probably more things that I can't remember at the moment but none of that had any effect at all. I don't think it's a matter of location either as I am pretty close to my router, about a room away. Since my wifi consistently runs smoothly on my other devices I'm assuming that this is an issue with this computer specifically rather than the network itself.

There are times where my wifi works just fine and incredibly smoothly with no freezes or spikes whatsoever. The times and circumstances in which it would work well were very random for a long time, but as of the past month or so I've usually been able to get it to behave that way after having my computer go into sleep mode once (although if it goes into sleep mode again after that it usually goes back to its usual lag patterns). I also think it might be worth mentioning that I resetted my OS at some point in January of last year due to it getting corrupted, not sure if the issue was going on before that since it's been a while.

As for my adapter, I'm using a Realtek 8821CE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC. I'm running Windows 10 and my computer is a prebuilt Lenovo Legion Y520 tower. Let me know if you need me to specify any other specs or anything. Thanks.

When I tried waking my computer up from sleep after I fell asleep...the monitor detected no signal and never did again, even after restart? What happened? What should I try to do?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 04:43 PM PDT

I decided to try reposting here as the other places I posted haven't really gotten feedback yet.

Anyway, I usually try troubleshooting issues it's just...wow, this is infinitely out of my depth as I'm used to fixing laptops. So, I have a hand me down desktop that's pretty much a dream PC for my standards and, yeah, the title happened. Oof. I'm pretty sure I put it to sleep before resting.

Is it possible something shorted out? Is there any method I can use to check what maybe went wrong? Mysteriously, I think the monitor seems to wake up when I turn the desktop back on. I might have imagined it.

I tried a TV (it's what I have on hand) and hooked it up to the back, hdml cord, and...nothing. I tried all the input settings on it and the original monitor. I've yet to try the VGA output as I'd have to find a proper cord.

It's an ibuypower computer with windows 10. I don't have the exact specs because I (stupidly) kept most of the information about it on it but I can probably dig it up, will just take a while.Feel free to suggest basically anything. I have to go somewhere today but I'll try my best to follow the responses I'll get here.

There is a small chance maybe I clicked on some sort of setting on my wireless keyboard, after all I actually dropped it in a very rough way before sleeping last night, but I doubt it. I already messed with it and I think the computer was still on when it happened. I don't remember if the keyboard hit the desktop on its way down. There was a signal on the screen when that happened anyway so I doubt it's related.

I can probably spare some money to get it checked out by a professional.

Note: if it isn't obvious I mean that no matter what I do, no signal seems to be being sent from the computer. I noted the sleep thing because I found it extremely strange the problem started after I tried waking it up.

HP laptop unable to find Wi-Fi

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 04:25 PM PDT

I am usually really good at solving issues myself, but I have a HP Pavilion DV7 laptop running Windows 7 home premium (64 bit) that has ran fine for years. This morning it is showing that it cannot find any wireless networks, and it's not showing the Ethernet port as well. I tried everything thing I could think of. Disabling / enabling the adapter, trying to update any drivers, removing and adding the device as well. Any ideas would be awesome. I would rather not backup the drive again and do a factory restore ( the fingerprint reader stopped working as well ).
