    Upgraded to S22 from iPhone!!

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 10:08 PM PST

I've been wanting to switch for a long time and I'm so happy I finally did it! I've been jealous of my wife's Z flip and all the cool things she's able to do and now I can finally set my phone up just the way I want it.

I've done nothing all day except stare at my screen and mess with all the customization available. I really thought I was going to regret the choice as soon as I switched (it's happened before) but wow! I'm so pleased. Also as someone who hates heavy/boxy phones the S22 is so nice to hold with one hand.

Farewell Note 8, my special smartphone. Thanks for getting me through life these past 4 1/2 years......

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 11:18 PM PST

Wow..... never though I would have such an emotional attachment to a phone like I do with my Note 8 I got back after launch in Sept of 2017. I guess its because its one of the few stable and reliable things that has stayed in my life the last few years. Though the many ups and downs i've been through, this Note 8 has gotten me through a lot of hardship but also captured many happy moments and memories these past 4 1/2 years and never gave me issues.

This little guy has been through some major moments in my life including:

    • Being laid off during christmas a few months after getting my Note 8 and having to use it a lot to try and keep in touch with work contacts to find a new job.

    • Calling the surgery department multiple times to try and get my carpal tunnel release surgery before my in insurance with my now ended job

    • Keeping in touch with my family and friends who helped me get through that really rough and stressful holiday season

    • Having phone call interview with my new boss in the best job upgrade I could ever hope to get vs my previous work

    • Getting an random email on my phone the day before valentines from a lady living in Tokyo wanting to help me learn Japanese and her with English. I totally forgot about the language exchange website my russian friend help setup for me.

    • My Japanese "tutor" and I quickly became close and my note 8 became totally essential for us keeping in touch phone over text via japanese app as well as Lots and lots of skype calls, including some naughty ones

    • Fulfilling a childhood dream and visiting Japan for the first time and my Note 8 recorded so many amazing sights and memories, including a surprise birthday at a steak house in Tokyo along with maid cafe. Best birthday I've ever had and my note 8 never let me down the entire time, I used portable wifi device since I didn't pay for unlocked phone or international plan. Trip of my lifetime and my Note 8 help preserve those special moments and memories forever.....

    • Recording my now wifes first travel to the USA/Seattle and our time meeting my family and my four neices meeting their new Auntie from Japan for the first time

    • Recording my parents amazement when I showed them the book my wife made asking to marry me in March 2019

    • Recording so many amazing moments during my comic con and PAX conventions

    https://i.imgur.com/mcCvHNC.jpg

    • Using the Note 8 to make reservations for a wedding in Hawaii so my wife could immigrate to America under the spouse visa program.

    • Using the Note 8 to communicate with our immigration attorney A LOT

    • Recording another childhood dream come true, visiting Hawaii for the first time and marrying my wife on the beach and then seeing Pearl Harbor together for the first time, not to mention meeting my future inlaws for the first time and thanks to the phone, I was able to practice my Japanese to get permission from her father to marry his daughter

    • Using the Note 8 to keep in touch with my wife in Japan during the COVID lockdown period as well as for work updates after going through another carpal tunnel surgery

    • Keeping in touch with my dad during a very hard time in his life with family issues

    • Recording my wife finally immigrating to the USA after 2 1/2 years of waiting. We finally were together and my Note 8 played a HUGE part in keeping us together and in touch despite having an ocean between us for so so long

    • And Way, WAY too many pictures of my cat

THe list just goes on and on of how much memories this phone has capture for me for so many moments and with the people in my life these last 4 1/2 years. It's alway kept going and giving me great pictures, ran Skype/Google chat for hundreds of hours keeping in touch with my wife while we impatiently waited for her immigration process SLOWLY struggle through the Trump/Covid chaos.

It kinda brings a tear to my eye that I'm retiring this special phone that's gotten me through some really low and high times in my life but never let me down. Thanks Samsung for making such a great phone. I hope to have many new amazing memories captures with my new S22 Ultra

The S22 Ultra is a thrill!

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 04:44 AM PST

After spending years with an iPhone, my return to Android has never been more enjoyable. I forgot all the awesome benefits of not being in such a "closed source" ecosystem.

Also, Samsung has made fantastic strides with its android skin 👏. I remember how bogged up and terrible they used to be.

Performance has been great for what I do, not incurred any issues with the exynos chipset which appears promising, although I'm using a slightly lower screen resolution until they fix that silly software bug.

Overall, really pleased. Can't wait for the Buds Pro to arrive, and the 12 months of Disney+ is a welcomed addition.

    Bravo Samsung, Bravo.

    I absolutely love S22 Ultra.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 02:00 PM PST

I've always been big on upgrading phones with new releases. Changes are not huge on S22 Ultra when compared to S21 Ultra or even Note 20 Ultra, but they are significant enough. For example, finally Samsung Keyboard that can keep up with my fast typing and no noticeable lag or delay. Battery is great, camera is slightly improved, speakers in my opinion is better on S21 Ultra. Display quality is already great so very little can be done to improve. It's very snappy and just works a bit better overall even when compared to S21 Ultra. Just wish edges didn't feel like knifes 😄

    Samsung Galaxy S22 review

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 06:07 PM PST

I got my S22 on Tuesday 3 days before released date and i have to say i'm not impressed but good phone. It's better than S21 but it's nothing major to go crazy about

Display: It's 1300 nits display bright enough but S22+ and S22 Ultra are 1750 nits. The display is bright and great color accuracy 10/10

One UI 4.1: Nothing major from One UI 4.0 but good improvements, it's fast with no lag at all, it's not heavy like TouchWiz was. 10/10

Camera: It's great and probably the biggest improvements from S21, the 3X optical zoom is great and sharp with no distortion. It take awesome pictures and night pictures are good enough 10/10

Battery: The battery is the weakness of the S22, i have to charge it 2 times a day because i'm a heavy user. Everyone using their phones different but this is my experience 8/10

Final score i'm giving the S22 is 9/10

s22 ultra changes color temp for no reason

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 05:18 PM PST

I thought I was going crazy seeing a yellow tint sometimes after the update then I finally saw it, as soon as I unlocked my phone the color temp changed from warm to cold

I've now tried unlocking it a few times and it jumps between warm and cold randomly I've also noticed the brightness changing sometimes despite having adaptive set to off

eyecomfort is also off i never turn that thing on, i caught it changing color temp now clearly, i opened the settings panel and it wen't from a yellow tint to no tint, it did this infront of my eyes this time it wasn't subtle either, it is very difficult to notice but if you're sensitive to any kind of yellow tint you'll feel it.

you may not see the change but if you look closely and compare both grays one is brown and another isn't, these photos were taken seconds apart and all i did was unlock and lock the phone multiple times to compare what i was seeing, this change was clearly visible to my eyes, so it's not the camera that causes the color to be slightly different. https://twitter.com/ZZCOOL/status/1497750383367639040

This battery is killing me (S22U)

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 05:01 PM PST

I have the S22U unlocked us variant, and the battery life is frustrating. The phone will easily last all day if I'm not using it, but the minute I turn the screen on, it gets extremely hot and my battery life falls off a cliff. I watched YouTube for 45 minutes last night and my phone so hot it was uncomfortable to hold, and it used probably 16.8% of my battery.

Hopefully we get a software update to fix this soon

Edit: so I changed the display resolution from WQHD to the middle level and that seems to have made a huge difference so far. Unbelievable

Why is Samsung Keyboard so picky about the appearance?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 09:39 PM PST

I want to use Dark Mode for the system/navbar, but Light Mode for the Samsung Keyboard. Why isn't this possible? (It's possible to use Light Mode for the Settings UI, but Dark Mode for the Samsung Keyboard... the exact opposite of what I want.)

Then I tried turning on High Contrast Keyboard (yellow keys, black letters, black background), but this totally disables Alternate characters (where you long press on the "M" key to enter a question mark).

I want to use the Samsung Keyboard because I can adjust the margins to ignore the curved edges of the screen. Other keyboards like Gboard extend into the edges, making typing too error-prone. Unfortunately, if I can't configure the keyboard so I can see it easily, and retain the ability to type how I want, then I guess I'm looking for a 3rd party keyboard that isn't Gboard?

Best plastic screen protector for S22 Ultra?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 08:34 PM PST

Thr S22 does not come with a screen protector like my note 10 did. So im looking for something that will take scratches over scratching my screen, no glass ones i never had any luck getting any of them to work with the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor

    Oleophobic coating

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 11:06 AM PST

We all love how smooth and slick the screen of a brand new phone feels. We also know that the feeling doesn't last too long as the coating begins to deteriorate. I'm here just out of curiosity to see if anyone has found any product that can successfully restore the coating. I'm not interested in screen protectors that claim to have this coating "baked in"

Looking for a Samsung under 800 probably in the 600-700 range

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 05:06 PM PST

I value power and display mostly for streaming so a good display is important I also game a bit with mobile games I was thinking the s21 ultra but I can't find it even in the 700-750 range (256 gb model) and the s22 ultra and plus are 999 and 1299 respectably I was thinking either the note 20 ultra or the galaxy 20 ultra if you can give a suggestion to what phone even besides these phones would be best for me

Which Galaxy phone stock apps do you prefer over Google's?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 04:46 AM PST

I just bought my wife a Galaxy S21 FE after years of using Pixel phones. I read about too many issues with the Pixel 6 to go that route.

Since she's used to the stock Pixel/Google apps, I was just going to install those, but was wondering if any of the Samsung apps were significantly better? I'm talking about apps like phone, clock, calculator, etc. I already learned that Google Recorder is not supported on the S21 FE, but most others are.

Which Samsung stock apps have you found to be better than Google's versions?

Anyone else having yellow tint on the front camera of the S22 Ultra?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 09:03 AM PST

Its not just on the main camera app. Yellow tints shows on every camera apps (insta, snap, duo etc.). Could it be a hardware issue? Resetting didn't do anything.

For everyone having problems with their Exynos S22!

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 01:26 PM PST

I also had an extremely laggy and terrible experience out of the box, but I found some settings that really help alot.

First find the power saving settings and make sure everything is turned off. I had my cpu limited to 70% speed.

then go to battery settings, more battery settings and set processing speed to high or maximum.

Changing these settings has made it feel almost as snappy as my old zenphone 8.

    Hope this helps!

    Smart TV Interface Troubles!

    Posted: 26 Feb 2022 03:20 PM PST

So I recently purchased a Samsung tv for my small home theater, and it's picture is wonderful, but I am very fed up with the user interface. The software is not well thought out, and I can't simply default to an input, every time I turn on the tv I have to get out the remote, go to inputs, and choose the receiver, and after the most recent software update it's no longer playing nice with my receiver, trying to identify the receiver as one of the devices connected to the receiver which is causing a ton of issues. So my question is, is there anyway to put the tv in a monitor mode, and or get rid of the current interface? Thanks in advance Reddit.
