- Switch won't auto-negotiate to another switch of same brand (shows link down) but works fine with other brand switches. Why?

Posted: 20 Feb 2022 02:29 AM PST I cannot understand why 2 "fancy" managed switches won't auto-negotiate or communicate at 1000Mbps when connected directly together. But they will communicate at 1000Mbps with other (cheap/unmanaged) switches. Can anyone help me? I have two Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch PoE switches (ES-24-500W and ES-16-150W). If I link the two directly then the ports show no lights and the web interface port summary shows "No Link" (dead link). If I change the config of one of the ports (either switch) from "Auto Negotiate" to "100Mbps Full Duplex" then the port lights light up and the direct link works (but not at full speed of course). If I change the config of both the ports to "1000Mbps Full Duplex" then the ports show no lights and the web interface port summary shows "No Link" (dead link). If I put the ports back to "Auto Negotiate" but put a cheap unmanaged switch (NetGear GS105) in between the two EdgeSwitches all switches/ports work immediately at full 10/1000. I also tried another brand Zyxel managed switch (GS1008HP) and that too makes everything work at 1000Mbps. Things I have tried/checked with no success:
I did already ask this on the r/Ubiquiti sub but so far no solution. [link] [comments] |
