Disable automatic gradle download in android studio

    Posted: 02 Feb 2022 11:12 PM PST

Whenever I open a library that I've not opened for some time android studio downloads the correct gradle binaries - I don't want this because old projects do download old binaries when I open them and I do always update gradle to the version I currently use if I touch an old project.

The problem is that a downloaded binary waste space on my system and that it needs quite some time - both is unnecessary for me.

Does anyone know if I can disable this behaviour somehow?

T-Mobile: Official "mobile internet" provider of the Android Emulator ... (?)

    Posted: 02 Feb 2022 05:44 PM PST

I am using Android Emulator with Expo for the first time, and I just noticed the emulator also emulates using mobile data.

It's pretty neat, looks very realistic. I know it's probably just a tun device connected to the host's network, but man, they really got it down to the last detail.

I suppose it'd be very useful for mobile usage metrics when prototyping .. but ...

    ... why T-mobile?? 😂

    Hi all,

How many downloads of your apps do you have?

How do you go about advertising the app to maximise downloads?

Are there any tips and tricks that can help me get my apps to get strong launches?

    Thanks in advance.

Asking for help about Tax form required from Google Play

    Posted: 02 Feb 2022 12:45 PM PST

Hi, I hope you're doing well.

Back in 2018, I've created my Google Play account in order to sell my apps,

My country (Morocco) is not supported by Google Merchant, so I can't sell my apps, for that, I've used temporary information from a website that provides such a service, I've set up my Merchant account with USA address and everything worked fine since 2018 till today.

Now, Google asked for a Tax form, I've filled it with my real physical address (Morocco), after filling all fields, they asked me for ID verification, I've uploaded my real nation card ID, and the process is now in review.

I'm afraid if they don't accept it, what should I do?

    Thank you.

What Files Do I Remove/Rename For Security? - Location Information, Play Services, etc.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2022 03:55 PM PST

    Hi all,

I have a tablet that I would like to make as secure as possible from prying eyes (mainly the corporate ones). To do this, I know that once you have root, you can change any file on the system. Here's my question:

What files can/should I either remove or rename to disable the following on Android?

    • Any location-based data collection including background or hidden transfer. I want my GPS to be a paperweight. This extends to services that derive your location based on network data i.e. router info, WiFi connection data, etc.
    • Bluetooth. I want to disable Bluetooth function completely.
    • Any Google or Samsung background services that collect data of any kind from the device. This includes play services, etc.

Case in point: I want as much privacy as possible while still being able to use apps that connect to the internet. It would actually be nice if there was an app that removed/restored functionality at the OS code level w/ root. This would allow you to make devices private w/out the need for flashing a ROM.

The tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. Thanks for any help you can provide!!

    Kotlin or Java?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2022 06:02 PM PST

    Hello fellow Android developers!

I am questioning myself this for a while, so, here's my doubt: I already have a pretty good experience with Java (not with android devs tho), and I wanted to start in the world of Android Apps development, so, what should I do?

Learn Kotlin or continue using Java?

    Android legal code push

    Posted: 02 Feb 2022 02:21 PM PST

Hi guys, I want to share with you a very cool library I'm developing. As you might know, Google has restrictions about code push, it's not possible to download executable code. However, I managed to run java source code using reflection. I will get back with Google response about it.

This means there is a possibility to run patches or execute code remotely.

It's not fully functional yet, I'm working on it, and Im willing to get PR.

What is your relationship with your Security Team?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2022 04:15 AM PST

This is my very first post on Reddit, so hopefully, I won't break any rules.

I have been in the mobile app security field for several months, helping organisations to drive their security policy.

We mainly talk to Security teams, but more and more, we feel that the pressure is being forwarded to the mobile engineers. Basically, Security monitors and Engineers fix it.

For those of you who work in organisations with a Security team, I have a few questions:

    • what is your relationship with them?
    • do you have internal processes during the dev phase to implement and test the protections?
    • how is the absence of protection managed when spotted?
    • do you have the tools and good practices to identify the mistakes and to fix them?

    Thanks,

    Remy.
