Do most people put all their stuff in their "User" folder? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 10:44 AM PST I have noticed a trend in installation manuals for mods, patches, and the like, where it asks to put the files in your "user" folder, and only then to name the specific software folder. Why to they all that's where I put all my software, and not just say "put the files in your ... folder"? Is it because that's where everybody puts their software, even with 2 or more hard drives? Or is it just non-sensical? Like putting an asterisk behind a word when indicating it's a spelling correction? [link] [comments]

free screen recording software Posted: 25 Jan 2022 05:51 AM PST Can anyone recommend one? I've been using 'awesome screen recorder' add-on. I like that it's so easy, I like that it also records whatever audio is being played, and i like thatt it can be uploaded directly to youtube at the click of a button. (so if you know on one that has them features, then great) The downside is that it only records in 5 minute bursts Anyone know of a free app that has the best of both worlds? [link] [comments]
Is there an equivalent of Python's virtualenv, but for isolating Windows applications? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 09:13 AM PST I'd like to set up a non-trivial developer environment on Windows, so other people can easily just download/apply that environment and have the preinstalled apps (some graphical, some not) ready to run without worrying about installing/configuring everything themselves. I can't just prepare a zip file, some of those apps give an error to "check your installation" if I just copy them. I guess they look for registry keys written during install. The easiest approach would have been to install everything in a VM, configure everything, then share the whole VM (I do this often for Linux), but each user would need their Windows VM to have its own valid license, so that's out. I can't tell people to pay for a 2nd Windows license just to run my VM. (I did find the Windows 11 VMs on Microsoft's website that you can use for free for development purposes, but they expire after 6 weeks, so they're annoying to use. I want something I only need to set up once and use forever.) With Windows getting a lot of new features in recent years which I'm not too familiar with, I was wondering if one of them would help in this situation. Some Windows equivalent of virtualenv, you know what I mean? [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Jan 2022 07:17 AM PST Without being overly technical, looking to find out which one is a better buy for an out of the box computer. I've always had Intel computers, but looking at 2 similar models, one has a Ryzen 3. Keep in mind, I don't game and spend 99% of my time in a browser. Just want a snappy experience without much lag which watching streaming videos and browsing the web. [link] [comments]
Bought 10 pro on 1 computer. Would like to apply my pro license to a new windows 11 laptop. Posted: 24 Jan 2022 08:35 PM PST Having a hard time finding the answer. My sister has an older HP desktop and she purchased a full retail copy of windows 10 pro. She now has a new laptop and it runs windows 11 home. Is it possible to apply the 10 pro license to this new windows 11 home laptop and have it upgrade to 11 pro? She tried to enter the key that came with the 10 pro purchase and it just deactivated windows. We tried to upgrade her current computer to 11, but it isn't compatible. Am I SOL or is it actually possible? The key is linked to her MS account, btw. [link] [comments]
How to change the Time format in windows? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 03:42 AM PST On the bottom RHS there is Time and Date showing on windows taskbar, can we change the format from : HH:MM to HH:MM:SS So I am asking if we can add seconds to show up as well? Lock Pointer inside current display unless im holding specified key? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 03:01 AM PST Is this possible. Im using two displays at the moment and keep accidentally teleporting my pointer to 2nd display whenever trying to click stuff near edges. So I'd like to have my pointer locked to the display its currently in until I hold (say Alt key) and drag it across the edge of screen, only then it moves there. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Jan 2022 01:52 PM PST Please give me a solution. This is driving me crazy. Windows 7 was so much better with this, you could even drag the files directly without opening the location map every time, this kills workflow… [link] [comments]

Windows Calendar and Teams links Posted: 25 Jan 2022 02:02 AM PST I can't wrap my head around the fact that (Microsoft) Teams links don't work in Windows Calendar. Also copy-pasting stuff from calendar disappears from clipboard if you close Calendar. People have complained about these for years. Why aren't these fixed?! [link] [comments]
Can I close the lid while downloading something for a certain amount of time? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 01:22 AM PST Okay, so I use Windows 11 on a single laptop, and recently found out that you can change the option to where the laptop doesn't go into sleep mode when you shut the lid. As this is nice, it also comes with things like it overheating. I recently started wanting to download something but it takes a bit of time to download and I'd rather be doing something else while it does download. I plan closing the laptop while it downloads but I fear that closing the laptop while a download is going for a bit will overheat it too much, going onto the question, is it fine to leave it downloading? Voice Recognition Software Questions (Windows 10) Posted: 24 Jan 2022 07:49 PM PST I just got a new computer over the holidays, and it comes with some manner of voice recognition software. I am using it to write stuff, which is having its own problems, but hopefully, this will allow me to actually write stories in time. I have questions: Thank you for your time. [link] [comments]
