My latest app automatically skips sponsored posts in the Facebook app (free, Android 11+)

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 12:25 PM PST

    Hello r/AndroidApps,

who isn't bothered by the many sponsored posts in their Facebook feed? My new app "Skip Ads for Facebook" will automatically skip right past sponsored posts for you: once a sponsored post has come into view, it will be automatically swiped away at once. You can select the threshold of how far a sponsored post is allowed to enter the screen before it will be automatically scrolled away.

NOTE: Skip Ads works only with the regular Facebook app, not with Facebook Lite.

The app is available in the Play Store here.

Note: The app requires at least Android 11: it uses Accessibility Services to retrieve information from the Facebook app, and this info is provided only when installed on a sufficiently powerful phone. (Facebook's choice, not mine!) If your phone has Android 11 or 12 and my app still doesn't work, please let me know!

I hope you find this useful!

What does enabling 'Dolby Atmos' do?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2021 10:53 PM PST

I just recently discovered the 'Dolby Atmos' setting while messing around on my phone and have been wondering what it does exactly. I've been searching for an Android equalizer solution, but it seems like I can't find exactly what I'm looking for. Do you all notice a measurable difference in sound quality when the setting is enabled? Is it boosting volume/bass? Does it effect sound globally? Or just specific apps? Just trying to get some personal insight from anyone who has had some experience utilizing it.

I'm looking for a screen sharing app to help my dad.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 04:22 PM PST

Is there an app that will let me view my dad's phone remotely when he needs help? We used to use Mimicr but it looks like it's no longer supported. He lives quote far away and it's nearly impossible to help him when he has to describe the issue to me but I can't see it.

Is there an easy to use app that would allow me to view his screen?

Any help would really be appreciated. This is very frustrating for both of us.

    Smartnews alternative

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 03:46 PM PST

Latest update is just horrible, and ads have gotten far too obtrusive. I really liked how the older versions had one source in a tab, many sources to pick from, and a large variety of topics news entertainment music sports tech autos finance etc. Is there another news app that functions like this?

    Genius App & Annotations

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 02:54 PM PST

I can't figure out how to add annotations to song lyrics in the Genius app. I can go to the website in Chrome with 'Desktop Site' clicked on and all the functionality is present but only if you're an ant. Is there any way to edit things in the app or is the apps functionality intentionally limited? Seems like all you can do is view and comment on annotations already made. Does anyone knows how to add and edit new annotations in the Android app?

YouTube app that can only access pre-approved channels?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 06:17 PM PST

I've given up trying to setup YouTube Kids, unless I put my parent account on my kids device, you can't manually approve videos and I'm not willing to put my amount on my kids device.

What a flawed setup; seems to assume kids don't have their own device?

I want an app that only allows pre-approved channels, that's it.

How to exit/stop the Ampere app

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 05:46 PM PST

I downloaded the Ampere app from Google Play today. It seems like a very useful app.

How do you stop/exit it? Is there a way to quit short of rebooting the phone?

    Does this app exist??

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 04:56 PM PST

I need to take a picture of my app and be able to edit it on my phone. I'm guessing maybe it would half to be a .pdf file? Or not? I'm not looking for pirated stuff. I'll pay the .99 for an app. I know Apple iPhones pictures app can do it, but an iPhone is completely out of the question because it's not even a remote option. So what can I get off of The Play Store that will let me edit the dates, time, and some words on my application if I take a picture of it. Almost like photoshop for regular graphical-only pictures, but for the text in a picture. Thanks!!!!! (It's a…..very unique job app that is VERY long and it has to be kept digital- no way to write it down and would take days to retype it as there is a LOT of typed stuff, including an essay-type page, and no physical copies are possible, both literally and practically) Again, thank you for any time you spend stacking your brain for an app that does this!

Custom keyboard that allows adjustment of individual key size?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 03:37 PM PST

I found one a few months ago and it was great, it allowed me to not only change individual key sizes, but I could even change where punctuation keys were. Problem is my phone just updated and erased my customizations, and I have no clue what app I had installed that did that.

    Any idiot-proof alarm apps?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 02:32 PM PST

    it's me. I'm the idiot.

Preferably something that's got a lock that actually requires me to be awake enough to be sentient. Maybe multiple puzzle locks?

Other fun features that would be appreciated are the ability to shuffle alarm times within a range, the ability to completely disable the dismiss alarm button without some work, the ability to set shuffled alarm tones, and my brain had a thought but it lost it and I'm too lazy to go back and edit my sentence.

No ads is a must have though, even if it's a premium version.

I am looking for a calendar app that takes notes with photos

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 06:17 AM PST

at work i need to take pics of products and store them by date so i can find it in that specific day, kind of like a reminder but with a picture instead of typing (no time for typing at work).

example of the perfect app for me: i notice a product expires on the 26th, open calendar app > choose the 26th on a table > there's already some products there > i press on the "take new pic" button > i take pic and voila, stored for that day!

later on the 25th at the end of my shift i go to the 26th and find all the pics i took sorted there

i hope i find some help, not necessarily this exact fantasy of mine

Frequently used app no longer shows under menu for frequently used apps

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 08:14 AM PST

Because I accidentally swiped it off the menu. Now it never appears there no matter how often I use it, and other less used apps do. I am talking about the row of apps at the top of the app screen where all apps are listed alphabetically.

The app in question is RiF Reddit is Fun.

    How do I undo this?
