What Certs/Skills Should I Work On To Become a Cloud Engineer?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 08:57 AM PST

Hello everyone, I just graduated in September with a bachelors in Computer Science and got a job doing IT support. I'm 2 months in and would like to leave after a year to pursue my goal of becoming a cloud engineer. I'm working towards my AWS SAA,RHCSA and maybe CCNA. All advice would be appreciated as I need a clear path on what to do to achieve my goals.

I'm beginning to wonder if IT support is the right path for me?

Hi all. First off, I wish you're all having great New Year's celebrations!!!

So I'm very new to IT. I have been studying to get my A+ certifications and will be having my exams next month. I've been looking up entry level IT jobs in my area (smallish town, NZ) and... there's not alot of that in my area. I've also had my fair share of working in retail and hospitality jobs and I don't miss working in that same environment. I'm fairly introverted, don't really have a good phone manner and have social anxiety.

I currently work in a packhouse as one of the skilled staff during export season and then packer during off-season. The long hours and shit pay made me want to upskill and I'm planning to resign immediately after export season (July-August 2022). The plan is to study for A+, N+, Sec+ and then Python. Might insert M365 or Azure in there too.

But I'm beginning to think that that might not be conducive to my ideal working environment. I'd like to work somewhere where I'd be mostly independent. I love problem solving and data entry/analysis. I like helping users but only as a starting point only. I've had some coding experience because I was a Tumblr user in my teens.

Please help! Any advice as to what IT/technical job I should be studying for? The steps to getting there. Should I even be studying the certs I mentioned above? Any help/comments will be very much appreciated!!

RSU vs Commission vs Base Salary - What do you value the most?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 08:58 AM PST

If you have multiple offers that offer different compensation packages which one do you look at the most? Total compensation or base?

Company 1 - Low base but offers high commission plus RSU Company 2 - higher base with commission but no RSU

Not sure how to evaluate these…

What is the job market like now and early new years?

Are companies looking to hire the most at the beginning of a new year or is that something people just say?
