Is Laptop USB power shared among USB ports? Posted: 02 Nov 2021 01:50 PM PDT I know USB 3.0 ports are rated for 5V and 0.9 A which is 4.5W. Let's say I have 2, USB 3.0 ports on my laptop with devices plugged into them. Does this mean I can have a total of 4.5W power output from each 3.0 port for a total of 9W? Or is 4.5W the total power split among each USB 3.0 port? [link] [comments]

I'm driven by fanless design; can't stand the laptop with fans Posted: 02 Nov 2021 09:53 AM PDT Sometimes I feel like the only one (aside from Linus Torvalds) when I say how important it is for me to have a fanless device... I have tons of laptops, but of all of them, I always seem to favor the fanless ones for peace of mind, and focus. I recently gave my partner a HP Envy X360 Ryzen 2500u. It's a solid laptop still. Not the beefiest, but meets most of my needs. As much as I love using it, I just hate it when the fans kick in, regardless of what I'm doing. It feels like I'm at an airport sometimes, and the noise fatigue just fills the atmosphere... Yet, I have a HP Elite X2 1012 G1, running a M7-6Y75. Throttles when under stress, and averages about 1.6Ghz (despite having a 3GHz range), yet at the same time, I enjoy it more than other devices. As a daily driver, for productivity/typing/creating office files, transferring files (NVMe speeds are nice), playing multimedia, thunderbolt 3 (docks are nice), even light gaming via Dolphin Emu, and for traveling (incredibly light), this works out. I have a Acer Switch Alpha 12, which is a more powerful device and better resolution, HOWEVER, it uses SATA. Part of me feels like SATA devices are becoming antiquated. Not to mention, it's pretty discouraging to buy a M2 SATA when the same capacity is the same price of a M2 NVMe... Why live in the past when you can have fast transfer speeds of today?! Huge difference from 3,500MBs to 550MBs. Am I alone on this? Does anyone care about fanless design? It doesn't seem to have a huge following. People seem to favor power, which is understandable if that's what you need (I figured, Thunderbolt 3, eGPU, and then "boom": My tablet has a little more beef.) [link] [comments]

Laptop for watching gopro and youtube. Posted: 02 Nov 2021 01:07 PM PDT What's the cheapest laptop that I can get to view my 4k videos and watch YouTube videos in 4k? I don't need it for gaming at all, being able to edit with it isn't important. The only other requirement I would need is having two USB ports, so I can transfer videos from phone to external drive. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Last gen with better gpu or current gen with better everything else? Posted: 02 Nov 2021 06:21 AM PDT I'm really confused between two options to buy a laptop. Both are available for the same price. My primary usage is heavy animation and graphic design. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Nov 2021 12:13 PM PDT Hello. I do some light to medium CAD work, as well as Minecraft and forza horizon. Build quality is very important to me, and after buying a legion 5 pro from Costco only to have to return it due to a faulty trackpad, I think I have narrowed it down to these 2. I was wondering which one will be better, and more importantly which one is sturdier and less likely to fall apart. [link] [comments]

Laptop Recommendation For Video Editing/Gaming (UK) Posted: 02 Nov 2021 12:01 PM PDT Looking to upgrade my laptop and could really use some recommendations. I mostly use it for light video editing (YouTube videos) and gaming (MMOs), along with general work. I've got a budget of £700 and requirements are a 512gb SSD, preferably 14" screen but not a deal breaker, and wouldn't complain if it looked cool as well haha. Any recommendations? Currently considering the following... Buy HUAWEI MateBook D 15.6" Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, 512 GB SSD, Grey | Free Delivery | Currys Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Dell XPS from 2016 for $400. Yes or no? Posted: 02 Nov 2021 11:43 AM PDT My friend is offering to sell me his 2016 dell XPS laptop. It's a touchscreen and seems pretty speedy. I've been a Mac guy all my life so I don't know if this is a good deal or good computer. Any thoughts? Should I buy it or pass? [link] [comments]
Need help discerning if I was lead into a bad deal Posted: 02 Nov 2021 05:45 AM PDT I sincerely appreciate your help! :) So, I had to buy a laptop for Uni since I can't use my stationary anylonger when the lectures start happening on campus. I bought a laptop with the specs listed below for 500 usd. It was from a company selling old renovated laptops. I believe the model is called Dell latitude E7450. Was this a bad deal for the buck I spent? I can still return it if I am unhappy. Specs: Dell latitude E7450.
Thanks again so much for taking the time to help! :) Edit: To clarify, I'd like to know if I can find better stuff for the same buck. I'd want to be able to use a drawing tablet and run some low intensive games on it as well such as Minecraft or similar titles in that performance range. Thanks ! :) [link] [comments]

Image/Video Editing Budget Laptops Under £700 (UK) Posted: 02 Nov 2021 10:49 AM PDT Hi all, I'm currently looking for a laptop that's probably for mundane tasks, but would be nice if it could dabble in Photoshop, and maybe even video editing. That being said, I'm working on a budget of £700 and am finding it hard to identify a good laptop for this purpose. The best I could find so far was an Asset Swift 3 Ryzen 5 5500u, but I'm not sure about it's longer term viability. Push comes to shove, the graphics and editing can get taken care of on another machine, but it would be very convenient if the laptop could do it to a small degree. Thanks in advance folks! A laptop with raised/mechanical keys? Posted: 02 Nov 2021 10:02 AM PDT Hello, I use my pc mostly for programming and file management. As a Vim user, I've configured my pc so that 90% of my navigation is done through my keyboard. So a comfortable and responsive keyboard is important to me, I'm a big fan of MX Blue. I have the same configuration on my laptop, but the keys on it are so flat and compact that it feels liked typing on a touchscreen; There's no feedback that a key registered and they're so close together my hands feel cramped. Does anyone have experience with a laptop that has a mechanical keyboard? I'm trying to avoid lugging around a keyboard in addition to my laptop... [link] [comments]
Do integrated graphics run hotter than dedicated graphics? Posted: 02 Nov 2021 09:32 AM PDT Just got a laptop with dedicated graphics(mx450) and i7 11370h. Was wondering if I should set nvidia control panel to use integrated graphics for everything that isn't CAD/games/gpu intensive stuff or if by using the dedicated gpu I'm 'spreading the load' so the cpu draws less power and doesnt heat up as much. Anyone know if this is the case? [link] [comments] |
