Haven't built a computer in 6+ years. After doing some research yesterday I put this together, anything I should change/do differently?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 09:11 AM PDT

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LCYtwz

You'll see there's no graphics card included in that list. I have an old 970 that I'll put in until I can find a newer card at a good price.

The rest of the components I plan to slowly purchase throughout the next year or so, instead of dropping all the money at once.

Anyway, about the computer itself: Is there anything I can do to make it more future-proof? Are there any components that I might as well upgrade because an extra $50/$100 would make a huge difference? Anything else I'm leaving out?

BTW, purpose of the computer is gaming/productivity. Nothing too extreme on either end.

UPDATE: Changed CPU to 5800X, added CPU cooler.

UPDATE 2: Going to switch to 32GB of ram. Should I do 1x32 or 2x16?

UPDATE 3: Going to go with an 850W power supply, and I now am aware that I should go with 2x16 for ram.

UPDATE 4: Lots of people are agreeing that I need to buy all the parts at once instead of slowly. I think I will do a bit of each and buy the following components slowly: PSU, case, graphics card, M2 hard drive. The CPU, motherboard, RAM, and the rest I will wait and save up for, in case it is a better decision to upgrade to new releases.

    [Help] CPU temperatures reaching 90*

    Posted: 26 Oct 2021 10:46 PM PDT

Good night? morning? Not quiet sure but I just got upgraded my PC literally a day ago, won the RX 6700xt from the newegg shuffle and also bought a R5 5600x. I finally got to test it tonight and starting noticing that the room was extremely hot, minus the heat being on and it was all coming from my PC. I decided to check the AMD Software, and it showed that the CPU temperatures were hitting 90*+ (91.7 max) and stopped gaming immediately. Should I buy a new CPU Cooler and stop using the stock one? My case only 2 fans which came with in (one by the IO shield, and one right above the CPU fan), I think my case allows me to have 3 fans at the front of the case, and add an additional fan below the one by the IO shield as well.

What do I need to do here? Is it the CPU Cooler that needs an upgrade, or do I just need more fans for my case in general. *EDIT* I have the Phanteks Eclipse P300

Going to be completely honest, I have to pay my tuition on the first, so if you guys suggest anything, please keep the budget tight. Don't care about RGB.

As of right now, CPU Idling is at 62.5*, and GPU is sitting at 48*. Gaming GPU hits about 65-75, CPU is hitting 90* (on Borderlands 3 maxed out)

tl;dr is after deaths in the family, loss of a career and relationships I moved across the country and I am finally in a position to do something nice for myself.

I want to do it right. Yeah it's overkill for my needs which is some AAA games and multitasking for work with some light video and photo editing but nothing too crazy.

As marked, the GPU and MOBO were purchased already.

I can budget an additional $300-500 to the unpurchased parts if there are critiques which I know there will be some.

Aiming for a purple, white, gold color scheme, really my main question is if theres anything I am missing there and if I can do better or save CPU wise.

Already have peripherals and the only necessary upgrade there is a 4k monitor (currently on 1440p 144hz) but I can wait to do that.

    Thank you <3

How much better is the 1660 ti to the 1650?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 10:44 AM PDT

Considering an upgrade from the 1050 ti to either a 1650 (£220) or 1660 ti (£400) Using a ryzen 2600, this upgrade will be in a couple months and I want to play some AAA games like HZD and other open world games in max settings. Which should I start saving for?

My ram won’t go to 3600mhz

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 12:06 AM PDT

Current it's running at 3333mhz but can't seem to get it to 3600. Also I have 4x8gb ram. Maybe if I switch the ram sticks around? Please help. Specs: Corsair vengeance pro Rgb 4x8gb 3600

ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS (WI-FI) AM4 MATX MOTHERBOARD

    Ryzen 5 3600

Edit: I figured it out, i just clocked 2 ram sticks at 3600 then I swapped it out with the other 2 ram sticks and clocked them at 3600 as well. The timings are 18-22-22-42. Voltage 1.35 and fclk is 1800mhz

[Drivers] How to install drivers after first build ? thanks

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 08:01 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I just built my pc (everything runs smooths and corretly), but i'm a little bit confused on the two following points:

    - How do i know which drivers to install ? or how do i know which hardware needs drivers update ?

    - Once i have the files of the drivers dowloaded how do i install them ? for example for my MOBO i went to the website of MSI : https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/MAG-X570-TOMAHAWK-WIFI#down-driver&Win10%2064 , but then what do i do ? where ? and how :)

    thanks in advance

Need help with my first build.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 01:47 PM PDT

    Hi,

I've been thinking about getting a PC for the first time, but I'm having a little trouble coming up with all of the different parts that I need, and making sure it's a cohesive build. So I could use some guidance in figuring this out.

    Specs:

    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600x
    • GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050ti (only temporarily, until I can find a reasonably priced RTX 3060 or 3070)
    • Motherboard: Asus TUF B550M Plus Gaming
    • RAM: G-Skill trident Z RGB 3600MHz 16GB (2 sticks of 8gb)
    • Storage: SSD 500GB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 Corsair MP600 + a 1tb Toshiba HDD from an older PC.
    • PSU: Super Flower Legion 650w Gold Pro
    • Cooler: NZXT Kraken M22 (open to other ideas here.)
    • Case: NZXT H510 (open to different suggestions, I want something that looks clean and doesn't have too many extra things on the outside.)

    My questions are:

Do I need a separate boot drive? I'm planning on storing games and the OS on the SSD while HDD will be used for pictures, university work, etc.

Is it a good idea to build a PC with these specs knowing that Intel is launching their 12th gen CPUs and looks like DDR5 is now a thing? idk much about all of this, but I'm not planning on upgrading in at least 2-3 years.

Do you have any opinions about the PSU? I've never heard of this brand before, but it's cheap and has a nice rating.

I would also appreciate any other advice or inputs you may have as I'm pretty ignorant on the matter.

(I'm plannning on using the build for RPGs and some FPS here and there plus school work.)

    Thank you for your time

I apologize for any spelling mistakes, english isnt my main language

    240hz 1440p Suggestions?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 02:45 PM PDT

    Hi,

I built this PC back in May but paired it with an MSI MAG273R 144hz 1080p Monitor, but I feel like I'm not taking total advantage of my build, so I want to upgrade to 240hz 1440p. Any good suggestions out there? To be honest, I only really play tactical shooters such as Valorant & CSGO, so it's good enough, but I was able to get my hands on a 3080 FE since I work at Nvidia corporate, so I decided to build this rig.

    PC won't start with 3080ti

5800x CPU B550 tomahawk MB 750 GX focus PSU GPU 3080TI AORUS 2080 TI ZOTAC

I swapped over a 550 g3 evga with the focus GX 750. The pc worked fine before the psu and GPU swap. With the 2080 and GX it starts up. Doesn't start when I swap the 2080 to with the 3080 ti.

Does anyone have an idea what the issue is that I'm missing? Thank you for the help in advance.

    Best microphone under $50?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 03:35 PM PDT

I'm looking for a black microphone used mainly for Discord (My headset mic broke). I'm looking for something I can mount on an arm, either included or leaving $15-20 for a separate arm. I don't know a lot about microphones, but I would like something that makes my voice sound a little deeper, and has some background noise filtering.

MacGyvered my new liquid cooler into place. How bad is it?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 01:06 PM PDT

I wanted more RAM but my one of my cooler fans was covering the memory slots. After spending an afternoon scouring the web for the exact measurements of a bunch of different coolers, I lost my patience and possibly my sanity and rage-ordered a liquid cooler.

Being an angry dumbass, I didn't check that my new not-so-fancy Cooler Master MasterLiquid 240 would fit nicely into my old and banged-up Fractal Design case, and it... doesn't. So I attached it to the case vents by way of gum and brute force, and it seems to work. Computer runs just fine. Temps are fine. It does seem a bit iffy to have the radiator and fans attached by only four out of six screws, though, and one all wonkily screwed in sideways.

How bad is it? Do I absolutely have to get a new case or can I stuff this monstrosity under my desk and just never look at it?

System integrators calling PC's with a GT710 "Enthusiast Gaming PCs" should be illegal and sued for false advertising...

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 03:45 PM PDT

I'm sorry, but I just have to vent:

I just helped a guy on another subreddit who said his PC was slow. He bought this pc in 2018, costing $500 I think. That for a 2012 budget CPU, DDR3, and a f*cking GT710. Even Intels damn integrated graphics are faster at this point than this piece of crap.

They just take a crappy case with 0 airflow whatsoever, no SSD, throw some RGB onto it, throw in a dumpster "GAMER" keyboard and "GAMER" mouse, and just call it "Enthusiast Gaming PC". I can see who they target with this: parents buying their kid their first PC, and other young teens that saved up for their first gaming PC.

How this piece of crap has 4/5 stars with almost 400 reviews is literally beyond me. I think 90% of people think 20fps is normal, or just review the case before actually using the PC.

Which GPU for 1440p 240hz gaming

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 11:43 AM PDT

Hey, i currently have a i7-10700KF (4.8ghz) , 32 GB DDR 4 3600mhz Cl18 RAM, 750w bronze corsair psu and a noctua nh-dh15 cooler (i think the best air cooler ?). I wanna play pretty much nearly every game on high settings (must not be maxed out settings) and wanna reach around 200-260 fps all the time.

i could have a rx 6900 xt xfx swift or a 3080 suprim x or should i aim for a 3080 ti ? budget 1,4k€ currently in EU

i dont mind switching psu and i will prob undervolt the gpu i like it when the gpu is quiet and cool

which gpu do you recommend for me.

Building for the kids, but at my ex wife's house.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 12:18 PM PDT

My kids have burned through a few laptops, yet the PC I built that they use is running like a champ. The ex asked if I could set them up one that they share that would be in the living room. So low budget that run Minecraft, Roblox, and windows. I had a spare case, motherboard, and a couple fans sitting around. I just filled in the blanks. Also I didn't put a GPU on there because it's not going to be at my house to monitor, so I'm not dropping the money on that part of it. I'm thinking it'll run what I want but any input is helpful.

2020 Computer Engineering Grad is fearful of the parts he picked after 3 months of research using youtube and google

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Hb9py4 - I left a 2x32 sticks of RAM on there by accident. Whoops!

Hello. I had a whole plan coming out of college on how I would have built a pc by now for myself and understood all the components in it. I kinda do, but I really don't, so I researched. Snooped in on the PC building community with all the info I could get gungho. I understand though that without having experience, I'm basically shooting in a dimly lit room compared to a pitch black one.

I tried to gear this build around using 3D sculpting and rendering software as well as gaming. I plan later to expand my build in RAM and Displays but I'm trying to not well, COMPLETELY drain my pockets, just enough that it would hurt since we're in the market that we are in anyways.

Any help is appreciated and don't be afraid to rip in to my choices to make me a better pick at this. You are all great people, don't forget that.

Normal operation, but Code D0 (CPU initialization error) on Gigabyte X570

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 02:38 PM PDT

I recently did some updating on my desktop from a 1080ti to a 3080ti running on a X570 gigabyte xtreme + 3950x (without reseating the CPU block). Previously during POST, dr. debug would run through all the standard codes and shut off as configured. Now, it's showing a permanent D0 at all times, indicating CPU malfunction per gigabyte.

The interesting part is that the computer operation seems to be completely unaffected. I installed a new GPU, and beyond the static D0, nothing seems out of the ordinary. It's not simple or easy to just reseat the CPU as I am running a hard loop, but considering it is benching fine, I hesitate to assume it's a die/socket issue. I have been having some odd behavior out of my EVGA 1300 G2 PSU, but I wouldn't know if a failed 8 pin would cause this, and I am running a 2x8 pin which should be more than enough power.

I am wondering if anyone else has seen anything similar to this on a gigabyte board.
