Help me install windows 10 pro

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 12:15 PM PDT

I brought a legion 5 laptop and it came with the windows 10 home. But I want to upgrade it to the pro version. I tried upgrading it from the setting( i have a windows 10 pro key) with the key but it was showing the key is wrong or use another one. ( i was using the same key in my previous computer and it was working fine also I deactivated the key from my old pc (from cmd) ). So I tried to fresh install windows 10 pro with a media creation tool and bootable Pendrive after completing the installation it is still showing I have windows 10 home. I tried one more time and noticed that it was not showing me the option to choose which edition I want to install. Please help me how can I change my home version to pro. Thank you!!

Which "big display" laptop is best for use as "thin client"? Solid build & large screen are key.

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 02:22 PM PDT

I need a laptop that I will use mostly for remote desktop connection to my desktop. The main requqirements are (in this order):

    1. large screen with vertical space (16:10 or 3:2)
    2. fast wifi
    3. low heat (even when plugged in)
    4. good/solid build

The new Huawei Matebook 16 is a good example: it has a 3:2 large screen, no dGPU and is thin and relatively light for its size, all in a sturdy unibody build, with latest WiFi 6. A 5600H with 8GB of RAM is more than enough.

Any other laptops along those lines one would recommend?

Which laptop is better? Lenovo IdeaPad Flex or Dell Inspiron 14

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 01:48 PM PDT

Hi all, I am looking to buy a laptop for university and was wondering which laptop is better?

The laptops are the 'Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 14"' and the 'Dell Inspiron 14 5415'.

Both come with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD.

I was set on the Dell until a Redditor mentioned that their customer service is atrocious.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Edit: Both are the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U version

    Advice Needed

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 01:24 PM PDT

My sister recently broke my old laptop, which was a gift, and i'm currently looking for a new one. I don't know anything about laptops but i'm hoping to buy one that'll get me through the rest of high school + college (i'm a junior).

I would mainly use it for school, unity, programming, and light gaming (Minecraft + occasional game off of steam) . Any recommendations, under $500 please?

    Help! I can't chose!!!!

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 08:11 AM PDT

So, I needed something for content creation and gaming, but I can carry around with me and 5+ hours of battery life and a webcam. The best option to me is the Asus M16, due to the screen, specs, a webcam . However, I can't chose between this and this. One has RTX 3050ti with only 4gb Vram, while the other has a better CPU (not really a point of interest as and the latest i7 is enough for me) and an RTX 3060. If You have a recommendation this is my criteria:

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Less than $1800, but low as possible please
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
If they are good condition, yes.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
performance, form factor (thin), battery life, build quality
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Quite important as I will carry it around a lot.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      15 to 16 inch
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Blender, Houdini, Adobe premiere/ aftereffects/ etc, Unity and Unreal engine.

GTA V, Zelda Botw, Apex Legends, Warzone, (and other easy to run games, like Minecraft and CS:GO

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      High, 60+ fps worst case
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Fingerprint reader, except that is just a great bonus.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
      N/A

Did I get ripped off? (Amazon)

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 05:26 AM PDT

I recently purchased a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro off of Amazon.ca and it finally came in the mail. The version I bought said it included an RTX 3070 with 8GB of VRAM, but when I turned it on and checked my Device Manager, I noticed that it actually only has an RTX 3060 with 6GB.

I'm concerned because the listing on Amazon is now $600 more than when I bought it, and that changed right around when my product was delivered. Here's the listing: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0977F45ZM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_DQJ2ZYJK003WVMBNFVK2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The Amazon seller's return policy states:

"1. If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with a product you have purchased, we will gladly give you a full refund as long is the Package is NOT OPENED/UNUSED (except for certain items described below) or exchange if you return it to us within 30 days after you receive it (14 days for computers, monitors, printers, notebook computers, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, cellular and wireless devices, portable DVD players and air conditioners) in its original / up-opened condition (including all packaging, accessories, and manuals)."

It's unclear to me whether or not I can exchange the laptop if I've opened it already, but of course I would have to open it to find out it has the wrong GPU installed.

I will contact the seller on Monday, but I'm more so just looking for some peace of mind until then. The seller has a high rating, but I've also been scammed many times in the past with online transactions. Does this seem fishy?

Is the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 a decent budget laptop for light gaming on the go?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 11:18 AM PDT

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
Memory: 8GB 3200 MHz DDR4 (might add an additional 8GB)
Storage: 256GB SSD Storage (might add an additional 500GB or 1TB)

If anybody has experience with this laptop, I'd be curious if you run into thermal issues.

Asus Vivobook F515 audio at 20% since update to Windows 11

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 11:18 AM PDT

I upgraded to Windows 11 and my audio is at 20%. Tried multiple things including updating drivers, uninstalling and installing device still problem persists. I have a ASUS X515JA motherboard and my laptop is a Vivobook. The device manager says that the device driver for my speakers is Realtek. Anytime I play a video the volume bar barely goes up to 15% and then drops.
Asus doesn't seem to have any drivers for realtek that is updated. I have the most updated drivers installed. Is there any software that can help me install a different driver?

Intolerable distortion while using USB Mic on new Dell G15

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 11:03 AM PDT

I got a Dell G15 5511 today, and on connecting my AKG Lyra USB Mic to it, I noticed that my voice is basically not bearable. Heavy distortion, so much so that I had to switch to the laptop mic for a discord call.
I'm not able to pinpoint if this might be an issue related to Windows 11, or an issue with the laptop software. I've tried troubleshooting but to no avail.

Should I download the latest radeon software

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 10:58 AM PDT

I bought a legion 5 early this year. At the time I downloaded the radeon software. Today, I opened the radeon program and AMD was promoting its latest software, though I didn't see any prior notification for it. Should I download and install over the existing software? A full install includes the driver, graphics and video settings, capture and streaming, and performance settings. Or will installing it screw things up? I guess I should do a system backup first, right?

No idea where to start with buying a new laptop

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 10:48 AM PDT

I've had an Acer 2 in 1 for about 5 years now, and even when I bought it then it was a low end budget buy. Just as an example of how weak it is, I can't even run Skyrim anywhere above 720 and all lowest settings and I still have below 30fps and memory crashes. It's also slow and laggy now so I can't even get any work done on it.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1200 USD willing to go slightly over

Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes

Needs to be a 2 in 1, battery life and size doesn't matter

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not a concern

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Don't need the biggest size, but not tiny either

    Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming?

Needs to run Adobe Premiere with no problems. Will be doing content creation

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I only want to run 2 get specific games at full settings. Skyrim (with like the best graphics mods), and a game called Overgrowth. It's purely physics based, graphic intensive and hilariously poorly optimized (seriously, I'm no programmer and I can see how bad it is).

    I Need Help

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 06:51 AM PDT

Well, I have an ASUS laptop with an intel core i5 processor and I want to increase FPS in games. It won't work through the BIOS, I checked. My system automatically adjusts to the games, but gives a maximum of 30 FPS. I need at least 40.

Help my laptop’s doesn’t react and the screen stays off.

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 06:48 AM PDT

Hi, my laptop will go on and run the fans normal speed but The screen wouldn't come on. I tried logging in blind but I don't get any sound too and I know for sure it ain't the screen that's broken. I have tried switching the ram and tried them one by one and also switched the cmos battery. Took a look at the screens connection / connector so that's shouldn't be the problem. What does stick out is the power button as it reacts directly if I want to turn it off mostly with computers you got to suffocate them with the power button before they go down.

Hope someone of you know what it will be and I will try to find other ram.
