    What are old laptops worth?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 01:02 PM PDT

Without saying, "well it depends which one and what specs". I just want to know generally the average price laptops would be worth selling on eBay. Even the average price for broken ones I guess because this guy is selling a bunch of laptops ranging from like 5-10 years old. Like over a dozen of them, most he has listed for $20. Some are $50 and $100.

So I was wondering the risk/reward if I offered less to buy all of them in bulk and posted them on eBay. I've posted my old laptops on eBay before, I posted like 2 of them a few years ago that were broken or missing chargers for like $50 and they sold within a day. But that may be because I asked to cheap for a solid laptop with good specs and parts inside.

I don't have that much computer knowledge on specs and parts. I just have interest in making money. All the laptops and tablets he's selling are working he said. He seems like a genuine guy. Apparently he buys and resells electronics a lot but he said he's been busy and doesn't have the time to list them all individually on eBay so.

Should I drop a few hundred dollars on over a dozen laptops and see what happens on eBay? I should be able to get $20 per laptop minimum right? That's all I'm asking, average value of older broken laptops, that way I know the absolute rock bottom value I'd get.

My laptop's hinges got torn out of the screen cover structure, so I'm looking for a new lid. The original cover was made of aluminum, but it seems that the plastic replacement is cheaper. Should I get the plastic cover, or it's better to spend more to get the original one?

My laptop's hinges got torn out of the screen cover structure, so I'm looking for a new lid. The original cover was made of aluminum, but it seems that the plastic replacement is cheaper. Should I get the plastic cover, or it's better to spend more to get the original one?

So I have an Asus Vivobook Pro 15 N580VD, and basically this is what happened:

    https://preview.redd.it/zhx1fzjhw7w71.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=876b9edad90af65b0b73b878f1863a786dfb6d71

    https://preview.redd.it/tt2qjnpvx7w71.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ed77d7580d53f37716ec6faab63418eeae67963

The first hinge got torn off back in spring 2020, but instead of getting a new lid I just secured the whole thing with scotch, which worked just fine until yesterday the second hinge went out of its place. The hinges themselves are doing fine, it's the screw holders that got torn out of the plastic structure they were fused in, so I can either do it like in this video (which I don't think I'm competent enough to do, plus I might not have the right kind of glue for that), or buy a new cover, which is exactly what I chose to do.

So, I looked through ebay, aliexpress and some other online marketplaces available in my country, and I found this option, which seems pretty good, except the holes for the screws seem to be also made of plastic, which doesn't seem really reliable:

    https://preview.redd.it/uhn3egwqy7w71.png?width=525&format=png&auto=webp&s=e14139d63458589f307ddbc62abc4fda33256eae

So, my question is, is it a good option, or should I spend almost twice as much and get the original one, which seems to come from a disassembled laptop?

Also, going to a repair shop is not an option for me, as it will either be too expensive (I'm not spending $200 on this), or too long (can't wait for a month), or unreliable (computer repair industry isn't regulated well in my country, so the risk of getting some components stolen is pretty high)

    RAM upgrade

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 08:54 AM PDT

Hello, I need help with my RAM upgrade. I checked all the details and everything is fine with the RAM I want to buy, but I just want the answer to this "stupid" question: is every RAM the same PHYSICAL size? I just want to be sure that it will fit. Thank for your answers :)

Galaxy Book Pro 360 janky internal build? (vs XPS 13 & MacBook Air)

Galaxy Book Pro 360 janky internal build? (vs XPS 13 & MacBook Air)

I will be buying an ultrathin laptop for study and work. I've narrowed it down to the Galaxy Book, due to its incredibly thin profile, S pen, excellent battery life, and good display. However, I came across these pictures of the three's internal builds, and the Mac at first glance is just... clean, and XPS 13 is still a lot tidier than the Galaxy Book. Is this just a matter of aesthetics or does it imply the Galaxy book will break sooner?

    laptop gpus

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:31 AM PDT

looking to put together my own laptop and was reading up on graphics cards I understand that some of the time they are soldered to the motherboard. I found this on amazon.https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FAMD-Radeon-HD-6450M-EXIGE2%2Fdp%2FB0836VDVRG&psig=AOvVaw1uuTmTcH-kckIFofZe1XDx&ust=1635474968294000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAwQjhxqFwoTCIj8irX07PMCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAJ which claims to be a laptop graphics card. I was under the impression that graphics cards looked like this https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/gaming-laptops/mx-450/ .

if the first link is what an actual gpu looks like then how do I attach it to my motherboard? on most motherboards I see that the spot is usually occupied. any help would be much appreciated.

    Help

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:26 AM PDT

I bought a £750 gaming laptop (asus rog strix i5-10300H GTX1050ti, small scratch on the screen) and I have realised I can't game and its distracting me from my school work. I want a laptop that works smoothly and good for school work like a chrome book or something while having a desktop that can occasionally edit videos and play minecraft. I also have an old lenovo yoga with a hhd, 8gb ram and some amd A7 apu that's slow as fuck even when opening Firefox. I also have a family computer that can edit and play minecraft (70 fps everything on low) but not very well. If I was to sell the gameing laptop, would the resale value be enough to upgrade the lenovo so its not slow and upgrade/replace the family pc to something that works a bit better or get a laptop that's best for school work and upgrade the family computer?

Nitro 5 5600h battery life? Please share your experience.

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:08 AM PDT

So I am looking forward to buy nitro 5 with 5600h and 3050. But I am really concerned on how much battery life can I get from this laptop. Those who own a nitro 5 with 5600h (with any dgpu), how much battery life do you get for normal tasks like browsing or/and word typing etc. (basically very less powerful tasks)? Particularly looking to know the battery life with power saving mode on (dgpu off), keyboard backlight off, screen brightness down to comfortable levels and most importantly refresh rate lowered down to 60hz.
A quick response will be highly appreciated because I have to make a decision in a couple of days.

    Upgrading from a 10-year-old laptop

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 10:57 AM PDT

My laptops are starting to mess up and are old. I'm prepared to spend $400 to $900 on a laptop. I basically want a laptop that can run Adobe software smoothly and do some light gaming like fortnite. I've seen laptops around $500 and around $750 that seem to be just as good as one another and the only difference to me seems like storage size and one was touch screen.

What specs should I be looking for, and what suggestions may you have?

5 years old laptop RAM question

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 09:34 AM PDT

I have an Acer Aspire V5-591G-51QH: i5-6300HQ quad core 2.3ghz processor 2x4gb 2133 ram Im about to upgrade the ram. The mothetboard supports up to 32gb ram. Im thinking to buy 1x16gb 2666 ram now, because in the future maybe i will buy another 16gb. Can this CPU handle 32gb ram, or it is unnecessary. Or just stick with 2x8gb, because its more than enough for this CPU. Not for gaming. Mostly for Ableton, Rekordbox and daily use. Thanks.

    $600-$800 Laptop Recommendations

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 09:31 AM PDT

Well, Reddit, my 2013 MacBook Pro finally crapped out, so I'm in the market for a new laptop (likely won't go Mac again).

    Budget is $600-$800.

Will mainly use for work (big, complex, spreadsheets) and maybe a bit of fun (connecting a midi controller and messing around). No gaming.

Ultimately want something that's fairly future proof, so either built with parts to last (ie enough memory and 512GB SSD), or upgradable (I have 2 Vengeance 32GB DDR4 2666MHz sticks I can throw in there).

    What options are out there?

    Thanks!
