Upgrading Processor - How to do it properly? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 04:22 AM PDT Hi everyone! I'm upgrading my processor from a Ryzen 1600 to a Ryzen 5600. Both come with their own stock cooling fans, so I can say that I will be upgrading the fans as well in the process. As I've never done this before, is there anything I should be aware of before making the upgrade-aroo? Thank you! Edit#1: Turns out I have a MSI B350 motherboard. Will have to order that too. Edit#2: In short will also be upgrading my motherboard to an MSI MPG B550 Gaming Edge.....sigh, there goes being cost-conscious [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2021 01:30 PM PDT I'm just a happy new owner! Bought it at a decent deal, $350, and as a means to wait out the price storm without totally missing out on performance. [link] [comments] |
Can you use a 1440p to play games in 1080p? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 03:26 AM PDT I'm sorry if this comes across as a dumb question but I know jack shit about PC's. So I just wanted to know if I get a 1440p (2560 x 1440) monitor for mainly story based games, will I be able to use the same monitor in 1080p to play cod and getter better frames. Thanks :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2021 06:47 AM PDT 1) Is the RTX 2060 and ryzen 5 3600 a good gpu and cpu combo for 1080p gaming? Mostly i will be playing games that are considered "e-sport" titles such as apex, valorant, fortnite etc. How much fps will i be able to get? 2) Also, is it worth getting an rtx 3060 instead of 2060 in combo with the same cpu card? Will the fps differ a lot? 3) How long will this combo be good for 1080p before i need to upgrade to keep up with gaming demands? (Estimation) 4) Can this game run AAA titles such as GTA and COD and other games along those lines? Or will it struggle/ struggle in the near future? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2021 01:18 AM PDT First time building a gaming pc, here are my specs I am looking at. Are they good for FPS gaming? [link] [comments] |
Got a Radeon 6700 xt for my 5700 xt Posted: 30 Sep 2021 01:48 PM PDT (Bragging a little) I just got a straight trade for my 2 year old Gigabyte for a brand new card. I bought the 5700 because it was just the right card at the time, and fate would have it that it appreciated 2x. Anyway it's pretty great. 20% performance increase and a brand new card for absolutely free :) [link] [comments] |
What are the best Guides for building a PC ? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 08:04 AM PDT Hello Everyone This weekend I am building my new PC from a scratch. I am wondering if you know some guides or videos that show each step with details and warn for most common mistakes. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
My Build is Complete. Now what? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 02:01 PM PDT I built my first PC and it works great. Didn't have any issues and I'm super happy with the result. The downside is that now that I'm done, I want to do it again. How does everyone cope with the agony of completing a build? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2021 09:16 AM PDT So basically I want to upgrade cases to something with better airflow and cable management... Any idea would be nice [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2021 03:13 PM PDT Got a 2070 Super coming my way in the near future. My current rig would bottleneck the heck out of it so I'm looking to fully upgrade. I'll be reusing my monitor, keyboard and mouse, plus I have a boot SSD and 2 data HDDs I'll end up transferring files on. I'd like to keep it under 1k and would prefer to use 1-2yr old components. I've been gaming with a 7+ year old rig so anything is better. I don't need 2021 parts if it helps keep the price down (plus availability). Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Is there a point building right now with Alder Lake/DDR5 coming? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 09:48 AM PDT Fairly new to this hobby but I've been lurking and noticed two things about Alder Lake speculations: 1) The next hardware generation is looking to change some standards, so this is a terrible time to build because of what that'll do to forward-compatibility. 2) The next hardware generation is going to suck at launch, or at least be very overpriced, so this is a good time to build just to avoid that (or wait however long it takes the new generation to cut its teeth). Not really sure what to take away from this. For all I know the 40XX GPUs might be out by the time it's a "good" time to build under those criteria. Even if I did somehow find a 30XX near MSRP, would building around it end up feeling sour because of the new generation? [link] [comments] |
What is the metal bracket on the GPU port? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 03:51 PM PDT Missing one on my mobo and was wondering what the function of them was, and if necessary, can one be installed? [link] [comments] |
AMD Ryzen 5600X vs Intel 10400F. Help me choose. Posted: 30 Sep 2021 12:52 PM PDT I'm building my first ever PC. I'm torn between the 5600X ($335) and 10400F ($200). I'll be using it as my primary computer for the foreseeable future. My use case is entirely gaming, bit of internet browsing, minor office work, and learning basic coding. Not at all interested in streaming, video editing, photoshop, graphics modelling.
Build details: RAM: HyperX Fury 3600 8GBx2 GPU: GTX 1050 TI 4GB DDR5 (Bought a pre-owned as a stop-gap) - $300 budget for upgrade when prices normalise Others: Aftermarket Air Cooler, 550W Bronze PSU, 500GB SSD, 2TB HDD [link] [comments] |
First desktop draft, looking for feedback Posted: 30 Sep 2021 11:15 AM PDT Hi! I've had a laptop all my life but I feel like I'm ready to take on a desktop now. I've done some reading and research, and made this build. I am however unsure if it is compatible or if you have any feedback to my build. Anything is appreciated! I'm really interested in high FPS, great cooling and decent graphics. I'll be playing FFXIV, VR and various games. Thank you! https://no.pcpartpicker.com/list/Dv8DGq [link] [comments] |

How to convince my parents to let me build my own PC Posted: 30 Sep 2021 12:58 PM PDT Hey. So I currently have a 2018 Macbook Air (120GB storage, dualcore CPU, 8gb ddr3 ram) which I mainly use for gaming and video editing. However, as you can expect, I get terrible temps, bad performance, and the keyboard is very bad. My mom recently asked me to build her a new desktop pc as her laptop was getting old, so I got the parts, built it, and she's pretty happy with it. However, I also am in need of an upgrade and want to spend my own money to build my own pc for under 500 usd. My mom is supportive of the idea while my dad is very against it. He thinks the only reason I want a new computer is to develop a "gaming addiction". However, I not only want to continue video editing, but also learn 3d graphics and coding. He says I can just use my current laptop for it and will not allow me to build a new rig. Can you guys help me come up with ideas to convince my dad to let me build a new pc? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2021 04:38 PM PDT I've been doing extensive research and have rounded out my build so far as to what I want minus the GPU for a balance of performance and cost. Is it worth waiting until Black Friday to purchase some components or do PC parts not really see a marginal difference in price? Been hearing prices may be going up again later in the year, and I don't mind buying the CPU, PSU, Mobo, etc now while I keep an eye on the GPU market. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2021 04:19 PM PDT Hey, guys. I've been using a laptop my entire life and decided it's finally time. I'm looking to buy a pre-built around 2.5k which will be used purely for gaming. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2021 04:17 PM PDT Hey guys , iam getting a new pc so im confused between 5800x or 10900f , so if the 10900f goes more than 4.2 ghz i am buying it if not i will go with 5800x , but if i went with 10900f that will be alot cheaper so let know does it work on high frequency or not , And tell me your opinion , the rest the specs. 3070 gigabyte gaming oc (B550 aorus pro ac + 5800x) Or (Z490 aorus elite + 10900f ) 2*8 hyperx 3600 cl17 rgb Kraken x73 Xpg core reactor 650 w Xpg battlecruiser [link] [comments] |
Old-ish custom built PC. Keeps turning on/immediately off. Posted: 30 Sep 2021 07:01 AM PDT I accidentally dropped something on it while cleaning (wasn't too heavy), and now it keeps doing this. This PC is definitely getting old, so I'm not surprised but is there anything someone please troubleshoot this issue for me? I know virtually nothing about hardware. [link] [comments] |
Why do some logs in Event Viewer have a different computer name? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 04:14 PM PDT (I posted this in other subs but got no answers) The computer name in a few logs in Event Viewer are named 'WIN-XXXXXXXXXXX'(X = bunch of letters/numbers) instead of my normal computer name. I'd rather not post the numbers/letters just in case. It's only a different name in a couple of events and all the the logs with this name were all made within 1 minute of each other about 1 hour after resetting my PC. I'm assuming this is a Microsoft server or something. My other PC has a couple entries with a similar name, but it'd be nice to know for certain. Google was no help. Perhaps if someone could go to their event viewer -> custom views -> administrative events -> right click on the columns -> add/remove columns -> add computer and then organize your list by computer and tell me if you see a similar name anywhere. (The changes made to your columns will reset after closing Event Viewer) [link] [comments] |
Anyone see any problem with this build? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 04:04 PM PDT https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7LNrdD Curious if anyone can find any problems with this or if I should have any concerns about the parts I've picked out. [link] [comments] |
Cons associated with purchasing GPU online? Posted: 30 Sep 2021 03:22 PM PDT Obviously I know it's going to cost more money…I have the money so that's not and issue. I guess it's also important to note that by purchasing off a site such as StockX I would be directly exacerbating the issue we are all already having by enabling the seller. But honestly..I'm 29 years old and have wanted a gaming PC for the past decade. It's time to build it regardless of the struggle. I guess I was wondering if warranties aren't still valid or if they are even offered for these items when purchased from retail normally? Any other cons? [link] [comments] |
