Build a gaming server for my school Posted: 18 Sep 2021 09:06 AM PDT Hey guys I'm a NYC school teacher and wanted to make a pc build/esports club for the students I got a Rx 480 4gb and cleaned it all out nice and replace thermal paste and pads I was wondering how powerful of a computer I would need to set up a server for the students to play games with and if anyone had any good budget options! Posted: 18 Sep 2021 05:18 AM PDT Just got a gtx 970 and I'm happy and all, but why does it perform so bad? I see benchmarkers running at at 3x the fps in higher settings, wtf is going on? (It's not my cpu or something like that that performs fine) [link] [comments] |
Ryzen 5600X extremely hot idle - mining malware? Posted: 17 Sep 2021 05:37 PM PDT If you come across this in the future with similar issues and have already checked your cpu cooler + redone paste, you might have mining malware like I did. Check the rest of the post and the top comment, good luck. Update:using resmon.exe at the suggestion of some people here, I was able to see an instance of "explorer.exe" using over 50% of my CPU at all times. Opening task manager results in the instance vanishing/dropping to no usage. Disabling my Internet connection also results in the process vanishing/dropping to 0% in the resource monitor. Either action results in my CPU temp dropping. I don't think this is actually explorer.exe, rather some sort of malware spoofing itself. I'm going to assume I have a piece of nasty malware and wipe windows. I will update with hopefully good news when I finish backing stuff up and formatting... Last update:Well guys, I think this will be my last update. After nuking windows and installing fresh, the issue is gone. See my temps here (along with the basic ass Windows 10 wallpaper): https://i.imgur.com/NgKgOTH.png The explorer.exe process that was hogging resources no longer appears in the resource monitor, and my temps don't change with task manager presence or internet availability. Looks like there was some sort of malware using my CPU. I get 50+ more fps on Battlefield V, and my CPU topped out at about 81-82C under load, which is less than the previous high of ~87C at "idle". I think these temperatures are acceptable under load with the stock cooler. Thanks for everyone that helped me out. Original post:I have a Ryzen 5600X that I recently noticed throttling at 95C during load (Battlefield V). I started tracking thermals when I noticed my fps seemed low. Anyway, this worried me so I closed the game and noticed that my 5600 was running at 80+ C while IDLE. Benchmarking it, it ran absolutely terribly, I assume because of thermal throttling at 95C. I figured there must be a paste or contact issue. I'm using the stock 5600X cooler, but 80-85C idle is absurd. I cleaned and reapplied paste, booted up again, and saw the same thing. 80+, as high as 86.8C idle. The room temperature is 20C and I have the case open. At this point I am panicking, so I open task manager and notice that the CPU temp quickly drops down to 60 or so. I repeat this a few times and watch the CPU spike back up to high 70, 80C quickly. Suspicious of some sort of malware, I disabled my ethernet connection. My CPU dropped to 40-45C at idle. I repeated this 3 or 4x, and each time I connected to the Internet, I shot back up 25-35C. I'm running scans with malwarebytes right now. Does anyone know if there is ANY other possible reason this could happen when I connect to the Internet other than some sort of mining malware utilising my CPU? I'd appreciate any input or recommendations. I have no idea why it would idle at 80+ degrees. There is new thermal paste, the cooler is secure and seated properly, the fans are spinning. My 3070Ti doesn't clear 75 under 100% load. [link] [comments] |
PC Crashed Months Back, Now Its Much Slower And Less Responsive Posted: 18 Sep 2021 08:43 AM PDT A couple months back my pc crashed and I had to wipe it to get it to run again, ever since then things haven't been the same, it's been slower, locks up at times, and games that used to barely touch it now max out my cpu/gpu and slow it down. Any ideas? PC bought from IBUYPOWER, ran well, swapped the CPU for a new one, ran even better, then it crashed, and has been running much slower than when I first got it. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/46362586 [Model]|Bench **CPU**|[Intel Core i9-9900K]|87.3% **GPU**|[Intel UHD Graphics 630](https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest/613181/IntelR-UHD-Graphics-630)|5.6% (used for 4th monitor only) **GPU**|[Nvidia RTX 2080](https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Nvidia-RTX-2080/Rating/4026)|128.2% **SSD**|[Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB](https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest/693540/Samsung-SSD-970-EVO-Plus-1TB)|297.1% **SSD**|[Adata SU650 480GB](https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest/434166/ADATA-SU650)|93.2% **HDD**|[Seagate Barracuda 2TB (2016)](https://hdd.userbenchmark.com/Seagate-Barracuda-2TB-2016/Rating/3897)|84.3% **RAM**|[Adata DDR4 3200 4x8GB](https://ram.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest/450236/Adata-DDR4-3200-4x8GB)|66.4% **MBD**|[Asus PRIME Z390-P](https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/Asus-PRIME-Z390-P/101237)| Edit/Update 1: I only used userbench to check after seeing and feeling the issues for a few months, I know its bias and reliability but I thought it MIGHT give an idea with the stats it provides such as showing my clock speed being low on my RAM. I don't know the best tools for this sort of thing so I used what was known to me. Thank you for your advice so far I will try what you've all suggested, please keep the help coming and I will update you whenever possible. [link] [comments] |

Swapped cases and GPU temp dropped 12 degrees Posted: 17 Sep 2021 06:56 PM PDT Swapped to a new case and my GPU temps dropped 12 degrees...from ~82 avg to ~69-70 avg. Cases make a big difference my friends. Don't overlook them! Originally had the Cooler Master Q300L and moved to Fractal Meshify 2 Compact [link] [comments] |
be quiet! Pure Base 500DX quietness Posted: 18 Sep 2021 08:56 AM PDT For those that own this case, could you share your fan configuration and how quiet it is? Since the front is a mesh airflow panel, I'm having a hard time believing it's a super quiet case. [link] [comments] |
1440p at 144hz monitor a waste? Posted: 18 Sep 2021 03:44 AM PDT So I'm trying to decide between getting a 3070 or a 3080. My friend has convinced me 1440p is the way to go on the games we usually play. I have seen benchmarks with both GPUs and my Ryzen 7 2700x and the 3080 just seems like the way for 1440 I have seen benchmarks getting around 170-200 fps in 1440p. Does this mean they were run on a 240hz monitor? Because the way I understand it if I have a 1440p 144hz monitor I won't get more than 144 fps. So there's almost no point in going 1440p and getting a 3080 unless I also get an expensive 240hz monitor right? So basically I'm just wondering is going for 1440p 144hz on a 3080 ok or am I wasting the GPUs potential [link] [comments] |

Installing AIO behind fans, instead of between fan and case? Posted: 18 Sep 2021 08:28 AM PDT So I'm installing my first AIO, and wanted it in front for better cooling. But the RGB of the case was implemented from production, and I don't want to make it look bad. So I wondered if I could place the radiator behind the fans, and still get optimal cooling, or if I should mount the Radiator on the top instead. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Sep 2021 11:35 AM PDT My budget is $1000 and I'm to figure out if a APU would be a good idea since the GPU market is fucked. Would a APU PC with $1000 budget be good for gaming/streaming/recording/editing? (I'd like to stream games like GTA V, and edit with programs like Adobe Premiere Pro) Or would hunting for the GPU be worth it? Side note: I'd also like to upgrade my PC in the future once I can afford it. [link] [comments] |
New graphics card over 90% usage on pretty much every game Posted: 18 Sep 2021 11:48 AM PDT As the title says my GPU usage is nearing 100% usage on every single game and seems to be lower =/= equal performance to the 970 I had previously. The new card is an MSI duo 3070, CPU is an i9 9900K, mobo is an ASUS Prime Z390P DDR4 LGA1151 Is there anything troubleshooting I can go through to see why this might be the case? It was a prebuild from cyberpower but I did a clean windows install to make sure it wasn't bloatware or anything like that.. Anything I can do to start investigating is much appreciated Thanks! Posted: 18 Sep 2021 03:45 PM PDT I have a Noctua U12s that I've had since 2015. I'm doing a new build with a AMD 5800x. I was thinking of using my U12s and buying an am4 bracket for it and saving $40 Or buying the U12s redux for $50. How long do air coolers last? What's best option? [link] [comments] |

First time building a PC, everything turns on but there is no display Posted: 18 Sep 2021 01:49 PM PDT So this is my first time building a PC and I was so excited when i put everything together then I plugged it in all the fans and lights turned on but there is not display, I have looked through all the other posts on here relating to this problem and have tried all the solutions that people have offered and none of them have worked. I'm scared and just want my pc to work, any suggestions are welcome, I'm willing to try anything at this point. Here is what my build is: CPU: CPU COOLER: MOTHERBOARD: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SVRZGMX?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 STORAGE: POWER SUPPLY: [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Sep 2021 03:36 PM PDT Got a choice between custom machines… 5900x with rtx 3080 and a i9 10950 with a 3080ti. I9 machine is about another $300. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Pc won't Start after building it Posted: 18 Sep 2021 07:23 AM PDT I put my PC in a new case today and actually connected everything exactly as it was before. As soon as I want to start the PC, only a small LED of one of the fans lights up, but not completely but only very weakly. Not even the fan on the power supply is spinning. I then checked all the case connectors and also reinserted the RAM again. I also noticed that my 3060ti was very difficult to plug in. The connectors for the gpu and the CPU are the same or? Where else can the error lie? My System: MSI MPG Z490 GAMING I7-10700F RTX3060ti 32gb ddr4 ram 3200 Hyper x dimm Case: Liam Li 011x dynamic [link] [comments] |
How powerful are the 5600g integrated graphics? Posted: 18 Sep 2021 03:26 PM PDT Like the title suggests, what nvidia card can you compare its integrated graphics with? I'm thinking of possibly getting a 5600g instead of a 5600x since gpu prices are still extremely high. (3060 at 900 usd in my country 😫) [link] [comments] |
