    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Is keeping my old gpu as a secondary gpu useful ?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:32 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I decided to pay 150$ over MSRP to get a new RX 6600XT to upgrade my old RX 590 and I was wondering if keeping the RX 590 as a second graphic card is useful or not.

    I have a Ryzen 5600X, B550 gaming plus, and 16 gb RAM. I play on a 144Hz / 1080p monitor and have a second one 60Hz / 1080p.

Why doesn't Microcenter expand out of the US?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2021 07:31 PM PDT

I always see posts about people buying GPU's at MSRP at a microcenter store, sponsored YouTubers giving out wireless headphones at any microcenter location, and Canadian me always wondering why they don't expand out of the US, at least in North America. Is there a specific reason for this?

    I'm an idiot

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 03:34 PM PDT

I had a cpu fail last October and shelled out money for a 3700x to replace a 3600x. What went from daily freezing turned into constant blue screens.

Fast forward to the last 3 months and the freezing starts again. I bring it in for diagnosis and pay $50 as I'm racking my brain as to why it's doing it. Basically if left running overnight, it will freeze at a random time.

They call me and say "your ram wasn't seated properly. Come pick it up." Get there and thankfully didn't have additional charges since I reinstalled windows before bringing it in.

Hey fellas I currently got a Intel i3 8100 with 16GB 3200 MHz ram. But I don't have a video card. I play Apex and Minecraft plus a tad Valorant. I can buy a GT 1030 gddr5 for about a 100$. Should I do it while I wait for a better GPU. I will also upgrade to 9700k or something soon.

    Advice on PC components

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 11:34 AM PDT

    Hello,

I'm upgrading my pc with newer parts. The only thing I am keeping right now is the graphics card which is a 1080.
Below is the list of the parts I am planning on getting to replace what I currently have (all my old parts are 3-5 years old so I didn't post them)
    - ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS WIFI (AMD AM4) DDR4 X570 CHIPSET ATX MOTHERBOARD
    - Fractal Design Torrent (Black Solid) Gaming Case
    - VIPER STEEL 32GB (2X16GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C18 3600MHZ DUAL CHANNEL KIT (PVS432G360C8K)
    - AMD Ryzen 7 3800X Processor (8C/16T, 36 MB Cache, 4.5 GHz Max Boost)

    - not sure what power supply would be suitable

    - is it worth getting extra fans as the fractal torrent already has 5?

    Thanks in advance!

How does the second gpu slot work??

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 12:29 PM PDT

I'm thinking of getting a gpu once the prices are somewhat normal, I know they won't be in a long time.

But let's say I get a gpu, I have one already in my pc and was wondering how does the second slot work? Is it like having the combined power of both gpus or am I getting something wrong?

    Any answer is appreciated

Got selected for 3070 Ti + a mobo in Newegg Shuffle, should I pull the trigger?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 02:57 PM PDT

I got selected for a Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ti GV-N307TGAMING OC-8GD and a Gigabyte X570 Auros Pro WIFI ATX AMD Motherboard in the Newegg Shuffle, grand total after tax would be $1230. What I really wanted was a 3080 but I'm wondering if I should just roll with this. From looking at won auctions on eBay I could probably get around $150 for the motherboard (I have no use for it) so the 3070 Ti would be a net cost of around $1080, which doesn't even seem that much better than what scalpers are charging on eBay. Worth or not worth? I have a 1070 now which is OK but showing its age a bit, my monitor is 144Hz 1440p. I'm not in desperate need of a new card but the thought of waiting over a year to be able to upgrade to a 3080 at a reasonable price is a little daunting.

I almost feel like if I eBay my 1070 + this mobo now, use the 3070 Ti for a year or two, then eventually sell it to pay for a 3080 (or whatever the newest series is) when prices have come back down, it would end up coming to around the same total cost to me as just buying a 3080 at MSRP a year or two from now, but I'd get the benefit of having the 3070 Ti in the meantime. Is that dumb?

    Should I keep my 3060?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 11:20 AM PDT

This might be a dumb post but I started building my first PC last September and had all the parts except for the GPU. I'm trying to make a 1440p build. After spending what felt like an eternity searching for a non-scapled graphics card, I finally found a RTX 3060 yesterday for $425 at microcenter by a stroke of dumb luck and jumped immediately on it.

Now I'm looking at people's reviews online and mention how mediocre the 3060 is. Should I really jump back in the search craze and look for at least a 3060 ti? if not, can someone reassure me and tell me I did good thing and I'm going to enjoy it?

PC crashes after updating to latest bios for x570 tomahawk (non-beta)

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 01:44 PM PDT

Repost, I tried to run a few troubleshooting but did not resolve.

Hi, I don't know if this the correct place to ask, but I happened to side-grade my CPU from a 3700x to a 5800x. I had to update the BIOS to run ZEN 3, but after the whole process was done I've experienced crashes practically daily. I thought it was from overheating issues, so I ran GL aquarium for 20 minutes, then MSI Kombuster for the CPU for 10 minutes, finally MSI Kombuster on the GPU for 10 minutes. No crashes. I load up Hades and get a crash after 5 minutes.

Ran sfc /scannow on Command Prompt and found no corrupted files. Deleted and reinstalled CoD Cold War since that one almost immediately crashes and restarts the computer, and Voila, immediate restart occurs after a BSOD. I don't know what is causing this. Casual use of class work or streaming doesn't cause any issues, but now it seems to happen randomly even on casual uses. I believe that my Operating System could be corrupted but I'm not sure. Any suggestions.

    B550-E & multiple GPUs

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 01:35 PM PDT

Struggling to get a 4th GPU to work on the B550-E when I know it's possible as others are using the B550-A and F without an issue with that many cards.

    https://i.imgur.com/VTegv1U.png

    I have a 3090 plugged into the PCIEX16_1, a 3070 into the PCIEX1_1 via a riser and a 3080 in the PCIEX1_2 also via a riser. All 3 cards work perfectly.

I'm trying to get another 3070 working via a riser using the PCIEX16_2 but it's now showing up under GPUZ or HWINFO. I have two NVMEs occupying the NVME slots.

Looking at the lanes the PCIEX16_2 shouldn't be disabled (albeit it will have reduced lanes).

    Any ideas please?

    1080p or 1440p for RTX3060

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 01:25 PM PDT

Im getting 3060 and since Im giving my "old" pc to my parents, I need new monitor as well.

But I dont know if I should go to 1080p or 1440p. Im not playing any competitive games where every frame matters but I also dont want to play on 30-40 fps just to have bigger resolution.
