Advice/suggestion on laptop for gaming and productivity Posted: 29 Sep 2021 03:02 AM PDT
US, targeting for $1600-1800, but might be able to extend it to ~$2000 if it allows for worthwhile improvements
yes, i am, highly depends on the condition and value propostion tho
Performance >> build quality > form factor > battery life
although i'm not too whiny about it, i do hope it'll at least be actually portable and not some kind of Predator x21 monstrosity
15-16" would be a sweet spot, but depending on the situation, i'm fine with something different (whether its bigger or somehow, smaller)
I'm planning to use it for gaming (both flat and VR), streaming and video editing
Definitely heavy games: RDR2, CP2077, Metro Exodus, Modded skyrim => targeting 60+ fps Somewhat heavy games: EFT, Bannerlord, Apex, VR Games => targeting 100+ fps Esport: Valorant, CSGO, R6 => targeting 200+ fps I'm hoping to run them @ high settings while streaming
high refresh rate and being able to perform great (in terms of actual performance and thermal) and maintain it in the long run are the main priority, QHD color-accurate display and good build quality are secondary, anything else is a plus
I used to own a PC with R5 3600 + Vega 56, and my current target is to get something that is better than my old setup In all honesty, i'd preferred building a new PC instead, nevertheless, we all know about the current GPU market issue, so for now, i'd like to have alternatives just in case things are not recovering soon enough Currently these are the laptops that had piqued my interest: * Eluktronics MAG-15 / Prometheus XVI / XVII * Legion 5 / 5 Pro * Omen 15 / 16 * Zephyrus G14 / G15 i'm hoping to expand my options and/or perhaps even hear the reviews/experiences of people who had used the laptops i mentioned before [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Sep 2021 01:58 AM PDT Hello, Updated with form
So far I've found three options. Would really appreciate some help on determining which would be best, or indeed, if there is asuperior alternative within my budget. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Premium laptop for under $1500 Posted: 29 Sep 2021 05:12 AM PDT Looking for an everyday driver. Mostly web browsing and word processing with some light gaming, e.g. Guild Wars 2 and The Sims 4. Not interested in 4K 'hardcore' gaming or anything. Watch lots of YouTube so a nice screen is a must. Any suggestions? I'm looking at the $1300 Surface Laptop 4 with the Ryzen 7. Would this do the job? I know the M1 Macbook Air is a popular choice at this price range, but I'd prefer Windows OS. [link] [comments] |

Replacing damaged Gaming laptop Posted: 29 Sep 2021 04:20 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: £1600 UK Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance, build quality, form factor, battery life. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very important Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 17" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? Lenovo ideapad 3 gaming vs asus tuf vs acer nitro for gaming/college? Posted: 28 Sep 2021 10:59 PM PDT I've been trying to find a decent laptop to not only take to classes but also do some gaming on the side. I narrowed it down to these three laptops which are within a budget of around $800. I am not an expert so I don't know which one is better seeing as all three have several issues as well. Any help would be appreciated. college: mainly just note-taking now that I think about it. Since I am majoring in IT/CS, programs will probably be IDEs for programming and something related to docker or virtual box, somewhere along that line. Gaming: I'm well aware these won't be the best but I'm not expecting any new games like call of duty or watchdog. I have consoles for those. The games I usually play can be from stardew valley, rimworld, to something like pillars of eternity or dragon age origin. Here are the specs of the three laptops: Lenovo Ideapad gaming 3 ($699): AMD ryzen 5 5600H, GTX 1650 , 120hz display, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256 SSD Asus TUF F15 FX506LH ($700): Intel i5-10300H, GTX 1650, 144hz display, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD Acer Nitro 5 15 ($519.99 openbox at bestbuy): AMD ryzen 4600H GTX 1650, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256 SSD [link] [comments] |

Build quality and keyboard of the XPS 15, without the performance Posted: 28 Sep 2021 02:16 PM PDT Hello. I'm a student and I want a laptop that works great for studying which a great keyboard and if possible, 15 inch screen with a 2-in1. But I do not need a huge amount of performance, I will be studying programming but I don't expect to be needing a ton of work with it, and if I were to need something big I have a desktop. What could I look for that would rival the XPS 15 on those first parts? Preferably around the 1000-1500 dollar mark, as the XPSs I have been looking at would be about that used. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a ryzen laptop to replace my XPS 9380 Posted: 28 Sep 2021 11:53 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
$750 USD
Preferred for better price
2-in-1 as I would like to draw on it, but I'm not opposed to a standard style laptop. I would prefer a ryzen 5000 series laptop.
Doesn't matter
13" to 14" preferred
Some Photoshop, light gaming such as emulators and maybe GTA 5 on lower settings
Emulators and GTA 5. 30fps is fine
Definitely touch screen
Ryzen is highly preferred, I'm not a fan of Intel. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a college/graphic design laptop Posted: 28 Sep 2021 11:46 PM PDT
Edit: The Ideapad flex I looked at has a Ryzen 7 4700U and 16gb of ram. Thought I'd point that out because there appears to an 8gb ram spec of the same exact model. [link] [comments] |

Should I expect a big improvement in performance, or is it nearly the same ? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Sep 2021 07:07 AM PDT I feel like the trackpad would annoy the hell out of me due to it being too big and in the way of the keys, is there any other laptop alternative to Lenovo legion 5 pro? please suggest a few , it just needs to have more than 16 GB ram, 1TB storage, high performance good battery etc and has to be over 16inch screen I'd mainly use it for software/web development, content creation, gaming etc graphic designing etc [link] [comments] |
Best 2 in 1 with (hopefully) a great OLED screen Posted: 28 Sep 2021 10:07 PM PDT A couple years ago,Dell XPS had a 15 in two in one, but the current generation 13in too small for me. I have a powerful gaming desktop but would like something with the beautiful screen that I can use to play Google stadia games and consume media when traveling on. I'm hoping for Stellar battery life, and a great keyboard. Don't want it to get too hot and want it to be thin and light but not be super limited. was looking at the Lenovo ThinkPad carbon gen 9 or even the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 extreme, or the new XPS 15 inch OLED, but I've seen and heard about a lot of problems with it. I realized a two-in-one would be a better fit. My local Best Buy doesn't have a lot of selection to check out in person. Budget is not much concern. But I'm worried that an integrated GPU might be limiting. But the discrete gpus all seem to get pretty warm. What is the thinnest lightest most powerful 15 these days that you love? Thanks! LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
2000 to 3000$
Sure
Want a 2 in 1 with a 15 in. OLED screen. I'm still debating the XPS 15, but it's limited Port selection compared to Lenovo and the fact that it's not a two-in-one and the fact that it had a bunch of issues is turning me off
I would love something very portable and with great battery life. I checked out the Samsung Galaxy book but it's specs were a little too Spartan and week for me. Was hoping for a bigger battery and a better keyboard
15
Will be doing productivity business type things and maybe some light Photoshop work but no video rendering.
As far as games. I have a desktop computer for that but wouldn't mind if the laptop could play Destiny 2. I don't care about refresh rate but I would love the best OLED screen around.
The Lenovo X1 extreme Gen 4 is great in a lot of ways and in some ways even better than the xps-15 I think. Bigger screen, but not better screen. Better keyboard and possibly battery life, and the mil-spec aspect of lenovo's is appealing. Would like something rugged and sturdy that's going to last for years. I checked out one of the HP Spectre 360 laptops at Best Buy with a discrete GPU and it was easily the hottest laptop in the store, just sitting there running nothing. [link] [comments] |
shopping for a portable student/light gaming laptop Posted: 28 Sep 2021 08:49 PM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1000 but i don't mind spending up to $1.5k Are you open to refurbs/used? yes! How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? performance -> build quality -> form factor -> battery life How important is weight and thinness to you? very important, i want something i can easily carry in my backpack and use in public if need be Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14" screen size is perfect but i could work with anything close to that Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. i'll be coding on it (nothing too intensive since i'm a beginner) and very light video/photo editing. gaming too, but i'd imagine nothing new/intensive. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? i'd like to be able to play minecraft with mods, valve games, old CoD zombies, and other semi old games at consistent 60+ frames. as far as settings, high would be great but i could work with anything lower. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? usb-c charging would be absolutely great. and of course i'll be doing a lot of typing so a good keyboard and great build quality are important. also a webcam is a must in this day and age. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. i've strongly been considering an asus zenbook 14 but they either have a dGPU with 8gb ram or 16gb with an iGPU (i prefer 16gb just to future proof it. also been looking at the asus rog flow x13 but the price holds me back. i'll be glad to hear your suggestion even if it's either of these! thanks! Which is the better long term every day laptop for $600 Posted: 28 Sep 2021 12:50 PM PDT Here is my two options I am looking at for a $600 laptop for everyday use. I do some web design, general tasks such as emails spreadsheets YouTube etc. Not really any gaming but I do photo editing. Of these two laptops which is the better option for something that would last me for to 5 years at least before I head to upgrade. Either one I get I will probably upgrade the RAM to 20 plus gigabytes. The touch screen isn't really a plus or minus but something with a better color gamut would be better. I Don't know how to find out which screen these have. Option 1: HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-ds1083cl 15.6" 2-in-1 Laptop Computer Refurbished - Black AMD Ryzen 7 4700U 2.0GHz Processor; 8GB DDR4-3200 RAM; 512GB Solid State Drive; AMD Radeon Graphics Option 2: HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2021nr 15.6" Platinum Collection Laptop Computer - Black AMD Ryzen 5 5600H 3.3GHz Processor; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR6; 8GB DDR4-3200 RAM; 512GB Solid State Drive [link] [comments] |

$750
From most to least important: Performance, build quality, form factor, battery life.
Minor importance
14+ inches
AutoCAD, Solidworks. I want to begin to learn 3d modeling/design.
N/A
I would love to have a touch screen but it's not a dealbreaker by any means.
I'm a beginner. I don't want to go for complete entry level; I'd like to grow into it eventually. Also, my budget is relatively flexible if there are good options in a similar price bracket. Thank you!! [link] [comments] |
