    Question about rolling release distros

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 10:22 AM PDT

Hi, I've been doing research on linux distros to get and I found out about a very acclaimed feature called rolling releases. And I was just wondering why is this? having constant system updates doesn't sound like a very good concept since you are forced into them and you are just TRUSTING the devs of the distro to not screw you over, especially with something like linux which is all about user freedom. Not trying to insult roll releases, I just don't really know how they work. So if someone could explain it better I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

    Trackpad too sensitive to taps.

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 10:23 AM PDT

Hello everyone I dual booted Ubuntu on my macbook air and so far I'm loving it. However I'm having some issues with the trackpad. Specifically it's too sensitive to taps. It registers even when I'm doing some three finger swipe gestures as clicks. Any help would be appreciated.

Can USE Flags make the initial Gentoo install fail? And when to add them?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 01:15 PM PDT

So generally I always try to follow the handbook but since my fresh install failed after already having a successful install makes me question everything a bit.

Current issue I'm facing is that after emerging grub:2 and rebooting, grub boots me into minimal bash.
I thought this might be an issue with partitioning but I haven't changed anything since previous install.
The only thing I remember actually changing is adding the use flags and licenses already after unpacking the stage3 tarball.

    ACCEPT_LICENSE="*"
USE:"-aqua -gnome -ios -ipod -kde -systemd -wayland -xfce alsa X"

Can this cause any issues during the initial install of stage3/base/genkernel/grub?
In the handbook it only states adding useflags after updating the @ world set. Is this best practice?
Can this cause the bootloader to boot me in minimal bash or do I need to look into the partitions again?

    cheers

Thinkpad up to 500 € for windows in VirtualBox

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 12:22 PM PDT

    Hello guys,

i am currently searching for a stable and cheap (up to 500 bucks) Thinkpad. I have heard their linux support is very good.

It's main task will be: running Windows 10 in a virtual machine (virtualbox)

Is there any older Thinkpad generation you are recommending? And what are the most important speccs?

    Thank you in advance.

    Choosing KDE Plasma

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 07:59 AM PDT

    Hello guys!

So, i alredy choose my DE and it's KDE Plasma, but what distro is the best to use it? I guess the only important point is that i want to play some games and maybe stream on twitch, then which distro should i go with? Kubunto LTS 20.04, Kubuntu 21.04 or Pop_OS! with KDE in the place of Gnome? (Never used an Arch based distro, but it's an alternative too) Thanks.

I can't install or delete anything

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 03:40 AM PDT

Hey, about a week ago when i tried to update the system with the pop shop, it gave me an error that said "Error while installing package: installed linux-firmware package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1" and didnt update it. Today when i tried again, it said that /boot was full, so i googled and find out that i need to delete unused kernels to free up some space but when i tried to delete the old kernels it gives me an error that say "cryptsetup: WARNING: Resume target cryptswap uses a key file" and a list of possible missing firmware and then it ends with "

    Monodevelop on Manjaro

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 02:07 PM PDT

Is there a way to install Monodevelop on Manjaro?

I tried using the AUR and Pamac, but dependencies wouldn't get installed for some reason.

And I tried using flatpak as well, tried finding Monodevelop on flathub, couldn't find it.

Any sort of an advice or guidance is welcome. Thanks in advance!

[Kubuntu] Can't boot into desktop after upgrade to new kernel?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 09:09 AM PDT

Today I have run into a problem for which I have no clue in regard to how I can start fixing it.

I did my updates and I noticed it included a new kernel update. Because of this I thought it might be a good idea to reboot. After rebooting I did get to the point where a mouse is shown, but the mouse wouldn't move and I couldn't switch to a terminal using ctrl+alt+f[1-5] (Those I tried) Rebooting also didn't help. So now I've rebooted into an older kernel, but I would like to boot without having to go through a menu.

This is the list of upgraded modules:

    Install: linux-headers-5.11.0-37-generic:amd64 (5.11.0-37.41~20.04.2), linux-modules-extra-5.11.0-37-generic:amd64 (5.11.0-37.41~20.04.2), linux-modules-5.11.0-37-generic:amd64 (5.11.0-37.41~20.04.2), linux-image-5.11.0-37-generic:amd64 (5.11.0-37.41~20.04.2), linux-hwe-5.11-headers-5.11.0-37:amd64 (5.11.0-37.41~20.04.2)

    Easy way to install archlinux?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2021 12:52 PM PDT

    Found this project today! archlinuxgui

This is exactly the thing I wanted. A pure archlinux but easy to install.

Question: Is it any good and is it worth installing it the normal way?

I have tested manjaro, and arco before because they are arch and easy to install. I though to install this one because i think its pure arch and not a bunch of other stuff out of the box.

Well I aware of the fact that Shenzen Goodix don't support linux officially, and have stated in public, that they have no intention to provide support in future... but I was just curious if it is possible to get any drivers.... I read it somewhere that many guys can make there own drivers by reverse engineering.... if it is possible then please tell me how to make my fingerprint reader work ^_^
