Reinstalling windows on a new laptop

I'm getting a new xps 13 and I was just wondering if reinstalling windows will cause any issues or if it's safe to do.

I had some issues with my laptop GPU where the laptop would use the integrated Intel(R) UHD graphics instead of the dedicated RTX one. Just disabled the Intel(R) UHD graphics and had no problems anymore. Tryed other solutions before but non really helped, so I thought I might leave this here.

I want to sell my semi-broken laptop, how much should I ask?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 03:59 AM PDT

Hi, I want to sell my Lenovo Y70-70 and I don't know for how much. I hoped maybe this sub could help me.

Specs: Inter Core i5, 4 cores, 2,4GHz; 16GB RAM; Nvidia GTX 860M; 1TB HDD; 17,3'' touch screen; Windows 10 Pro; I've been using it for almost 6 years; Battery would last only about one hour when not plugged in; It has completely broken keyboard, I use an external.

Thanks in advance guys. I don't know how to price it since it has some flaws but relatively solid specs at the same time.

    Laptop case/shell replacement

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 02:02 PM PDT

I have a Lenovo ideapad Flex 4-1580 80VE that has a bent front corner on the upper case and has 2 largeish cracks on the bottom case.

My computer functions and works just fine but I would like to know if is possible to replace just the plastic shells of the lower case and the upper case.

For the upper case specifically, is it possible/feasible to replace just the case without also replacing the keyboard or any of the inner parts?

    HP Omen 15-en1824no

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 01:55 PM PDT

I'm considering buying this laptop for gaming and work. Most of the time I will be using it with a 3440x1440p 144hz acer monitor. The laptop's specs are: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H, Nvidia RTX 3060, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD. Do you think this laptop is powerful enough to work nicely with the bigger monitor?

Bad Things about the Asus G14

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 01:26 PM PDT

Been using the Asus G14 for about a week now. Found some things which I extremely dislike about this laptop which I find extremely unacceptable for a 1400$ laptop.

    1. The keyboard. The F and J key bumps are extremely high, to the point it is distracting. Not only that, but the F and J bumps are also uneven, the F key bump being higher than the J bump. Worst off, there is also a key bump on the W key for some damn reason. I don't know why, maybe because it is a gaming laptop, but still unacceptable. Keyboard also feels mushy and I am not a fan of it. I came from a HP pavilion and a Lenovo Y530, and those budget gaming laptops had way better keyboards than this. Lastly, whoever invented gamer font should just kill them.... but yeah, I hate gamer font, this is a personal preference.
    2. The colour. This is just personal preference, although the White laptop has more character, the colour scheme is just general. The chassis outside looks amazing, however, the inside looks horribly ugly. The silver chassis looks terrible, and I wish they made it white or off white.
    3. Unnecessary lights. On the keyboard deck, there are 3 unnecessary lights that serve no purpose, one being the charging light, one being the disk usage light and I'm not sure what the third does. The disk light is constantly blinking and its stupidly annoying, I covered it up with some paper so it is not so obvious, but it still bugs me more than it should.
    4. No media keys on the 2021 model. This is STUPID as the 2020 model has media keys. All this has is the volume keys and mute keys. What did they replace the media keys for in the FN row? Freaking keyboard lighting modes and brightness. Thank you ASUS, I totally needed that, a feature I will never touch instead of media keys which I use every few minutes.
    5. Coil whining. This is a thin and light laptop, so this is to be expected, though for the price I am paying, I would wish that wasn't the case. You can remedy this by wearing headphones or turning on the keyboard backlight. For some reason, it works.
    6. No webcam. Nuff said.

Final Verdict: Should you buy this laptop? Yes, if you can overcome these shortcomings. It is a good laptop overall, and provide good portability and power for its size, but I find it INEXCUSABLE that Asus has these shortcomings on their flagship laptops. This isn't a TUF laptop or one of their A-series laptop, but the Zephyrus line. If I had the budget, I would have gone with a Razer Blade 14, however, that was 400$ over budget. If you have a higher budget, I would strongly recommend the Razer blade (though that has its own issues). Do I regret buying this laptop, in a way yes, because I did purchase this impulsively just based on the paper specs, but if I could turn back time, I may have gone for an actual work laptop like the Acer Swift 5 or a Macbook Air 512 GB, but if I was going to go for a gaming laptop at this price, my decision would probably have stayed the same.

For anyone who has an Omen by HP laptop 15t-dc100, what screwdrivers do you need to open the inside?

I used a Phillips head p1 for the outside and some of the inside screws, but I found that some of the inside ones use different screws. I cannot open my laptop currently so does anyone know which screwdrivers I should use / buy?

    Worth fixing this 2014 Travelmate?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 06:12 AM PDT

I got a Travelmate P645-MG with a faulty display, faulty keyboard and a deathbed battery. It's a fairly good and powerful machine - FHD, discrete 2GB GPU, 8GB RAM (can upgrade to 12GB), SSD (with slot for 2nd drive).

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-TravelMate-P645-MG-74508G75tkk-Notebook-Review.118886.0.html

Only thing is it seems it'll run me $200-300CAD to fix up - think I might be able to source a screen from China for ~80 or ~140 local, keyboard probably 40/60, and another 70 for a battery.

If it was like 150-200 all in I wouldn't even ask, but it's looking like closer to 300, and I'm fairly out of touch with the current product landscape.

    Need help in choosing laptop

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 10:48 AM PDT

So I need a new laptop for my online classes as my previous laptop has too many problems. I want a lightweight laptop and was thinking on getting either the HP Pavilion Aero 13inch AMD Ryzen 5 5600U, or Acer Swift 3 14inch AMD Ryzen 5 5500U. I mainly use it for microsoft office apps and I do light gaming like the Sims 4. Both of these laptops are about the same price in my region. Which one do you think I should go for? Or is there any other laptop that you guys recommend? Thank you in advance!

Creative hinge fix ideas, GE63 8RF

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 06:51 AM PDT

Infamous hinge break on my MSI, pictured here. The metal hinge ripped the rivets right out of the plastic body. Tried JB weld, that didn't do any good. I saw a post awhile ago in which someone had the hinge rip out the screen bezel, so they just redrilled holes and used bolts/nuts to hold the hinge in. Think something like that might work here? Any other ideas?
