Want to test out mac. Even if it's not perfect, testing should be fine? How much space is needed? What is everything we need? What's everything else we need to know? What's the best guide online that people have made on this topic?

Can you use windows 10/11 to read an hdmi input and display it as a window?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 06:44 PM PDT

I have a nintendo switch and I thought it would be more convenient if it could just be displayed on a seperate window on my windows computer, I only have one monitor. I haven't checked if I have an hdmi input port on my pc, it's kinda against the wall and annoying to move so I'd like to know first if this is even possible.

Windows 11 additions all need Microsoft accounts? Useless for business users then?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 03:38 PM PDT

Have added and deployed Windows 11 with our SOE at work to start testing out lob applications and such and figure what new GPOs need to set.

Is it just me or does ALL of the "new cool stuff" like Widgets or this centre button Chat need a Microsoft account?

Also from a IT side and supporting very basic things like ctrl+shift+enter or right click run as admin missing from start menu, only work around can find is to drill down to like c:\windows\system32 to do something like run cmd or mmc as admin.

Seems like another Windows 8 to me.. Microsoft trying to jump on some fad, then it was touch so make the whole OS touch at complete expense of productivity and also needing Microsoft accounts everywhere. Now it is "simple" and again they blindly implement this garbage at expense of productivity, make basic tasks take more steps, and again push Microsoft accounts at business customers.

And yes I am aware there are GPOs or registry settings like there is at least to turn off Widgets found so far. But they also far as can find have released no info on new GPOs or how to configure this for business yet.

Is there a program where I can choose to look up messages or open them for one individual at a time?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 03:24 PM PDT

I talk to a lot of people in various capacities through the web. Thing is, I just don't have enough energy to be checking all of my messages all the time. Sometimes I want to chat with a specific person but I need a break from another person. If I do all my messaging through facebook or signal or texting, then to message one means to check messages from everyone. I know that it's possible to just not get back to other people or read their messages immediately, but I have trouble doing that. So I'm wondering if there is some program or app somewhere which would allow me to open a window just for a certain individual- whether this connects with whatsapp or facebook or something else, I don't particularly care, just something which would serve this purpose.

Sorry if this isn't the right subreddit. I couldn't find a subreddit that seemed especially suited for finding whether there is a program for a specific function like this.

Wasted Potential: Windows 11 (my review of Windows 11)

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:33 AM PDT

I know I'll probably get bashed up for this but anyway this is what I think about Windows 11. I honestly think it's wasted potential.

    Design: 9/10 (mostly good)

Features: 5/10 (a lot useless features; some important features were removed, though Clock is good)

Compatibility: 0/10 (generating a lot of e-waste by mandating Virtualisation based security, regular consumers don't need it)

Performance: 8.5/10 (solid improvement compared to Windows 10, but some changes caused games to be slightly slower)

Consistency: 6.5/10 (effort has been put in but lots of inconsistencies still remain)

    Overall: 29/50

Comments: I'm already quite lenient with the mark scheme. Almost wanted to add a "tone deafness" to the mark scheme and give it 0/10. Microsoft needs to stop this system requirements thing. I think Windows 11 is wasted potential, and that history will repeat itself (Vista) if Microsoft doesn't wake up.

Will do a full review once Windows 11 reaches General Availability.

Windows 10( Pro vs Education vs Pro Education)

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 06:55 AM PDT

I am planning to move from Linux to Windows, I have downloaded the Windows ISO and am stuck on the part where we have to choose which Windows do you want to install, it is giving me options such as, Home, Education, Pro and Pro Education.

I understand Home but struggling to understand the difference between Pro, Education, and Pro Education. Who are they targeted towards? Will I be able to pay for any of the three Windows 10 Operating Systems after I have installed them(I mean will and how I get the License key)?

Please consider that I am a student who is going to University in 6 months period.

    Windows toolbars anyone?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2021 10:33 PM PDT

Is it just me or does it seem that toolbars are almost never used? I can't seem to find any good ones anywhere! I have one that shows my battery and a search for everything but that's about all I can find. Does anyone know any good toolbars I can add to my taskbar? And what are your thoughts on this aspect of windows that seems pretty forgotten?
