    How do you big-phone folks fit them in your pockets?

    My Pixel 2XL is on its last leg. I have been looking to upgrade for some time, but haven't found anything that suits. I'm looking at either a Pixel 5A, 6, or 6 Pro. All of those phones are quite a bit larger than my 2XL (6" vs 6.34, 6.4 or 6.71). I am an older dude, and work in a business casual environment (pants = khakis). Usually, the pockets are big enough, however as trends change, it seems like pockets are getting smaller and away from work, jeans are definitely almost impossible to manage a phone while sitting down. I am not interested in a belt holster.

    I guess you just learn to get really selective with your pant purchases?

    What's the deal with midrangers in North America?

    There have been some relatively new SoCs that have been released this past year being used exclusively for midranger phones but they're such a significant step up from the midranger SoCs before them that they're almost equivalent to flagship SoCs (largely because they're based on yesteryear flagships SoC). These are:

    Basically, if you're not a hardcore gamer or photographer then you're guaranteed to not need anything better and you're not going to notice a single difference between midrangers containing these chips and flagship phones containing the Snapdragon 888 (at least in terms of performance)

    China, South Asia and even Europe are spoilt for choice here. Collectively, there's tons of phones containing the Snapdragon 870/860/780/778, the Dimensity 1200 and the Exynos 1080. Most of them are China exclusive but India and Europe can still get phones like the Oneplus 9R / Nord 2 or the Motorola Edge 20 or the Xiaomi Poco F3. But with the recent release of the Samsung Galaxy A52s nowhere to be found in the US market, it's kinda become apparent that even manufacturers that traditionally sell in this region are deliberately avoiding selling these phones to this region and I'm curious to find out why.

    I figured that they're doing this because they think North America can afford pricier flagships but is the purchasing power for an Android phone really that different between North America and Europe? On a related level, is the chip shortage affecting how manufacturers prioritize their sales to specific regions? I've heard flagships can be aggressively discounted through carrier deals in the US: would that perhaps render these midrangers not as good of a value as they are in Europe and thus less necessary? The last part I'm particularly curious about because as far as I can see there's not been a lot of visible frustration at the lack of these phones reaching the North American market, although I haven't been paying much attention to North American techtubers and what they're saying (are they saying anything?).

    I just think it's kind of unfortunate. I'm not even North American but I can't help but feel a little miffed on your behalf, but I'm also wondering if I'm even supposed to considering the muted response. What are your thoughts, Android users of North America?

    We need to pressure manufacturers to stop locking devices, rendering them obsolete when they decide to stop updating them. We need something that Linux is to PC.

    Xiaomi have promised three years of Android updates and four years of security updates for the 11 Lite 5G NE in India which was something they didn't refer to during the global launch. There's a good chance the policy will be extended globally as it doesn't make sense to increase the update cycle for one region but we'll have to wait and see.

    Gboard on iOS has way more customization options for themes than on Android 11 and it's dumb.

    I got an old iPhone 6 for testing purposes and installed Gboard on it.

    You can customize the theme to your heart's content. You can change the color of the keys, the letters, even the swipe trail. You can change the thickness too. And you can make it "sparkle" so little G logos fly around when you swipe.

    On Android...you can change the background of color of the entire keyboard. And...that's it.

    What's with Google and their lack of feature parity for their own OS.

    Feedly app is accessing browser data without permissions

    After some initial suspicions, I decided to do a few tests using several different devices, different browsers and different privacy settings on those browsers. Even on devices that had the most restrictive settings (Firefox's strict browsing tracking on, no history saved, clear cookies and browsing history on exit) Feedly was accessing browser searches to populate the news feed and ads with content related to those searches. Test it out for yourself. It's not a coincidence that you searched for something yesterday and now it's suggesting a new story or add about it today.

    This happens even when Feedly had no app permissions granted.

    Not really a long time lurker so sorry if this has been said before.

    It feels entirely like a flagship phone. There's nothing about the user experience that reminds me I got a discounted version of the Note 20. Screen, battery, and cameras are solid.

    Been a long time Samsung user and I got an open box S20 FE for $431 USD. The last time I spent less than $500 on a phone was 2013.
