Phone screen went dim and popped while it was on my lap?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 06:52 PM PDT

I have an LG Aristo 5, which I have had for eight months. Today I texted someone, then put the phone down on my lap, so it was sitting there with the screen still on. While it was sitting there, it looked like the screen briefly went dim and it made a popping or clicking sound, then brightened again. The phone volume is off so not sure that the speaker is what made the sound. Using Android version 10. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I'm wondering if something is wrong with the phone. First time I have ever seen this happen. Thanks in advance for any info.

Which Android board to create a real product ?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 06:40 PM PDT

Hello everyone, I would like to create a GPS on Android.

I've been looking for development boards that can run Android but they are all too big and therefore not suitable for mobile use.

Ideally, I would like to find a card that looks like the OrangePi 2-Iot but can run Android.

The standard development boards are not suitable for production, so I looked for motherboards that already include the main components of a smartphone (SoC, Wifi/Bluetooth/3G/4G antenna, ram...). I have only found 2 suppliers:

    Kiteboard: https://www.kiteboard.io/

Fairphone: https://www.fairphone.com/ (the core module can be bought)

The problem is that the motherboard components supplied by these manufacturers are not very recent. Do you know of any other manufacturers who produce Android boards for production, or if not, manufacturers who produce "complete" smartphone motherboards ?

Thanks and have a nice day :)

The Google app is running in the background and draining my battery

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 07:37 AM PDT

If I open the app it'll keep running in the background. For example the statistics from today: Active: 4m Backround: 18h 17m Battery usage: 12.7% The only reason why it's only 18 hours is because my phone auto restarts every night. I've tryed using the "put the app to sleep mode when it's not in use" function, didn't change anything. I'm not sure what to do and I don't want to have to force stop gogle every time I finish searching for something.

I can't send pictures on the messenger app

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 07:53 PM PDT

I've tried a ton of stuff, but I can't figure it out. I've installed new messenger apps and I've also tried editing APN settings, but it wouldn't let me. I've also done all the basic stuff like restarting your phone and what not.

I have a very important cat picture to send to someone.

Can't send pictures to one person

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 07:39 PM PDT

I'm having trouble sending pictures to my brother on the messages app. We have never had this problem before. I can send him regular texts fine, and can receive both texts and pictures from him. I can send pictures to my other contacts with no problem. He can receive pictures from other contacts no problem. But for some reason, just me sending him a photo won't go through. His end shows absolutely nothing when I send a picture. My end shows the picture grayed out, with "0.0/picturefilesize" on top of the picture. I have reset the cache, my phone, we've both tried both on and off wifi, made sure we had no other texting apps interfering, etc. We both have Verizon and are on the same plan. I have no idea what the issue is but I'm really frustrated. Can anyone help us out?

I saw that you could not text with iMessage from an iPad if you own an Android phone 5 years ago, can you do it now?

Where to find good resources on installing custom roms?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 05:18 PM PDT

I have a OnePlus 7 Pro, trying to install RR, but guidance on doing so is kind of obscure. I feel like a lot of the general tutorials are too general and might not give what I need.

Where can I find good resources on installing custom roms?

Need a new portable battery, the old one doesn't work well with Pixel 4a 5G

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 10:42 AM PDT

I'm not sure where to ask this, so please re-direct me if appropriate.

Years ago my wife and I bought an Anker PowerCore 20000 with Quick Charge 3.0. It has been great, but it does not work well with her newer phone, a Pixel 4a 5G.

I'm sure we just need to look at a newer model because, reasons, but is there something I should be looking for specifically?

Small dot appears on screen any time I touch it for a split second. How do I disable?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 04:38 PM PDT

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Either something has recently changed, or maybe I change the setting with my phone in the pocket or something. However, recently I have noticed any time I touch my screen there is a small dot that appears anytime I tap my screen. It is annoying as hell. I have looked in the keyboard settings as well as the input settings and cannot find where to adjust this or how to turn it off. It is the dumbest problem to have, but here I am.

my dad hosts group calls with his coworkers and one specific coworker will drop

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 04:33 PM PDT

so my dad likes to do group calls with his coworkers whenever they all have long drives. he probably does group calls with 3-4 people. my dad has a samsung, a pretty old one too (maybe like, 5-6 years old). whenever he hosts the call, one of his coworkers always gets dropped after 15~ minutes, and his coworker who gets dropped has a pretty old samsung too (not sure how old exactly). weird thing is, my dad's coworker only drops out of the call if my dad is hosting, but if a different person hosts the call then his coworker will be perfectly fine. any reasoning behind this?

TLDR; my dad's coworker's phone drops whenever my dad hosts a group call, but is fine whenever someone else hosts.

Dropped new pixel 4a after buying two weeks ago. Now the phone won't read sim card, is this something someone can fix?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 04:22 PM PDT

Purchased a pixel 4a two weeks ago from Google and I dropped it. I had a case on it but they only thing that got damaged is the area where the SIM card is inserted. The phone doesn't recognize the SIM anymore, I tried the SIM in a different phone and it worked so that means the phone is damaged. Has anyone had their phone damaged in a way where it doesn't read the SIM card anymore and was able to get it fixed at a repair shop?

Any video editing apps that'll render 4k 30fps?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 02:38 PM PDT

    FilmoraGO doesn't offer 4K capabilities.

AndroVid Free Version doesn't offer 4K capabilities. (What about the Pro / Premium version?)

Google Photos Free Version doesn't seem to offer 4K capabilities anymore, although it did render 4K in the past (I've been rotating and rerendering 4K 30fps videos). Strange...

Power Director Premium (Cyberlink) does offer 4K capabilities, but you can only get it via monthly subscription plans, which I hate. I prefer one-time-lifetime-licenses.

InShot seems to offer 4K capabilities... What are your experiences in dealing with InShot? Is it a good app?

Any other good apps that are capable of 4K rendering?

Pixel 4 Battery Usage Chart not Rendering

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 02:21 PM PDT

Hi, I have never seen this issue before and I have never had an Android issue that I couldn't Google but this one has stumped me.

I have had my Pixel 4 for 3 days and it has had some pretty consistent battery drain. That isn't surprising, I know these phones have issues, but the one tool I have against it isn't loading.

Going into the Battery Usage setting yields nothing, just a blank page. It happened the first day and I thought maybe it didn't have enough data, then I got a bit too excited and jumped on the android 12 beta, still nothing.

Searching for this has been fruitless, with every search variation it only gives me articles about battery issues.

    Has anyone seen this?

So randomly the other day my camera app refused to open, after clicking it a few times i get the error message camera stopped working. If I open snapchat the camera works in that app but I can't switch to the front facing camera. I forced stopped the app, cleared the cashe and data and opened the phone in safe mode. None of this fixed the issues. Has anyone else had these issues?

    Looking for new alarm app

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 02:12 PM PDT

As the title says I need a new alarm app. My work schedule repeats every 2 weeks. 1 week I work Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. The following week I only work Wednesday and Thursday. So if I could find an alarm app that I can set to a 2 week repeating pattern it would be amazing.

Xperia L4 issues with touch keyboard and power button??

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 02:06 PM PDT

Only had this phone since March. Sometimes the keypad is slow, then it'll freeze a second and suddenly type really fast or double type words. Also today my phone went to lock screen twice without me hitting the power/lock button, also twice the power options came up as if I held the button but I didn't touch it. Anything I can do? Should I send it back? (Bonus - is there a decent app to store images? I HATE being forced to use Google now)

Looking for a new phone for a farmer

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 07:58 AM PDT

    Hello Android questions community!

My dad is currently looking for a new cell phone. His current one is a kyocera e6560c. It's a couple of years old now and needs to be replaced. The battery life is terrible the last few months and he doesn't want to carry a power bank with him every where he goes. He is a 65 year old farmer and works part-time at a local tractor dealership. He needs glasses to read small print, is too stubborn to wear them all the time and his fingers are too big to use small buttons for typing. He needs the phone for calling, texting and pictures (taking, sending and receiving) and the phone needs to be durable in case he drops it or it somehow gets banged around while working on the farm/while at work. He is willing to buy a case for the cell phone. He also doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a new phone. We live in Ontario Canada, the availability might not be the same here as it is in the States. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

Edited to add: hoping to pay less than $800 His provider suggested sonim XP8, that retails from them for $949.99

Multiple welcome screens when add new user on samsung galaxy xcover3

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 01:35 PM PDT

I'm trying to add multiple users to my Samsung Galaxy Xcover3, and when I start setting up the new user, I'm met with the Welcome Screen.

But when I press Start, the screen moves down and is then replaced by...another Welcome screen. This usually happens 4 times, until I finally get to the next screen.

When I've then completed the setup process, I'm met with a previous screen. It seems like the app for setting up a user is started multiple times, for reason I can't quite fathom.

How do I debug and solve this, so I only get one single Welcome screen in the future, when adding new users?
