I'm going to miss my Zenfone 6. A Zenfone 6 appreciation thread

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 08:11 AM PDT

The camera broke on my Zenfone 6 and instead of trying to get it fixed by Asus (replacement flipping camera on a phone 2 generations behind) I ended up buying the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE on Prime Day.

Switching to the Galaxy ecosystem just made me appreciate the Zenfone software/hardware more, and for how much I paid for it ($500)

    1. headphone jack
    2. Dedicated smart button that completely customizable. Had it so one-press changes audio profiles, long press locks screen orientation, and double-press to turn on flashlight. Similar can be done on the Galaxy power button but only for one function (double-tap) or long-press (activate Bixby [no thank you] or power menu)
    3. Minimal bloatware - got the Asus Data Transfer, Mobile Manager, Game Genie and...that's really it? Other than the hardware specific features.
    4. 5,000 mah battery - right now my S20 FE is getting terrible SOT out of the box. Zenfone 6 out of the box was around 7-8 hours of heavy use.
    5. Built-in battery management, including battery health, charging limits, slow charging, and scheduled charging. I wish this was standard.
    6. Notification light. I miss it.
    7. Notchless design because of the decent flip camera

Definitely had drawbacks though - no wireless charging, no water resistance, screen's kinda "eh" (especially after using the S20 FE - OLEd+high refresh rate), software updates were kinda slow, and the camera often came loose requiring a button-press to pull it back and lock it in. Oh and when someone is video-calling me through Duo and the phone is camera-face-down it'll try to get the camera up and fail at it.

But man it's a really good device for the price. I wish some of the functions were standard.
