OnePlus won't make custom orders for new special-edition parts. Posted: 18 Jul 2021 10:11 AM PDT Hey, just a quick PSA - My 7T Pro Macca has a really nice case that's been doing a good job of protecting my phone (in conjunction with a screen protector), but has lately been falling apart (plastic separation), and the alcantara on the back of the case is matted. I wanted to order a new one from their site, but it appears that special edition phones are esoteric - phone service didn't understand what kind of case I was talking about for the first five minutes, and on policy they don't do orders over the phone. Live chat was more effective, letting me know that they currently had severe stock issues on cases and other accessories, and that what they had on site was what they had. Like the phone rep, they redirected me to Amazon, saying that I had more case options there. They concluded by saying that in experience, it's unlikely we'll be seeing any replacements or spares on the site, and I concur - they're SE items and OnePlus probably doesn't want loads of people pretending their phone is a CP2077 8 Pro, or a McLaren Edition 7T Pro, etc. In the end, I have the suspicion that the cases are as limited-edition as the phones, and the same likely goes for the charging cable and special orange/black charging adapter/brick that comes with the phone. Posted: 17 Jul 2021 10:17 PM PDT 3T user here since 2016. Besides the normal battery deterioration after 5 years and minor touchscreen sensitivity issues, this phone is a champ and is still performing exponentially better than my previous Samsung and LG phones 1.5 years into their lifecycles. However, the last Android update i got was in 2019. I saw there was an option for a "local upgrade" involving manually transferring the files somewhere but i think this involves rooting the phone? Aside from turning on and using some developer functions, I haven't rooted my phone or flashed any custom roms or kernels (nor do i have any idea what those terms mean, i just see them most often when talking about customizing or rooting android phones). I am willing to learn to root my phone if it means getting android 11.0 and more importantly, the latest security updates available but I'm not sure if this is possible (and safe). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 07:05 AM PDT Events prior to phone "bricking": So yesterday I was just using my phone, was about to turn on a VPN and around that moment my OP8 sort of froze then I started getting errors that Android something stopped working and to wait or force stop it. More of these errors came up, couldn't even do anything about them, phone was frozen then it just randomly started restarting and after endlessly loading it restarted again and put me into Recovery Mode. How the "brick" works, is it really a brick? Please let me know: Whenever I try to boot or reboot my phone, it loads endlessly then it gives up, starts up again under Recovery Mode and shows me a Boot Reason that has something to do regarding the Camera, although doubt that's the reason: Fatal exception in system process failed to start service com.android.server.camera.cameraserviceproxy Advice is greatly appreciated. My phone's bootloader is not unlocked or whatever, it's how it was by default, it's an IN2010 (Chinese), my phone only gets detected by my PC (in Device Manager) as "Android" (with a yellow error mark) when in Fastboot mode. Otherwise, nothing. Tried: Wiping the Cache [link] [comments]
what power banks are compatible with >18W charging for my phone? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:13 PM PDT So I was looking at power banks the other day for my 7 pro and I realized that most of them are capped at 18W of output. are there any power banks that support the warp charge feature or something that won't take like 2 hours to fully charge my phone? is the OnePlus cable gonna be charging at 18W if the USB port has that output? I'm looking for a power bank with at least 10000mAh and a metal body. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 03:26 PM PDT Ever since I got the phone I thought it was broken because it would charge so rediculously slow if you used anything other than the 65W charger. If you search on reddit or the cesspool that is the official forums , you'll encounter basically 2 different claims:
Here's the reality: You can dial
The other thing to note is that the time remaining figure is a straight up lie except for the 65w and PD charging figures. The real charging time from empty to full is closer to 3 hours. So given the actual data above, we can tell that point #1 is wrong. The voltage and amps you are seeing in the debug menu is accurate for the entire system, it isn't showing one battery bay or whatever. Otherwise if it applied to both the phone would be hitting 112W?? #2 is debunked because we can see that the lightning bolt shows up as long as you use a charger that conforms to the dash or warp protocol and the phone is unable to actually use high wattage charging Coming from the other perspective, hwhat does the observed charging times line up with what I'm laying out. Well the phone has a total of 4500mAh x 5V - 22.5 Wh. But since the phone leaves a buffer room, when it says 0% on screen, there's probably 20% more juice in the battery. So lets just say the chargeable capacity is 18Wh. if you were able to charge fully at 65W from 0-100%, then theoretically it would take But charging at 5W isn't affected by any tappering off. I could forgive all of this if they just simply said, the 8t isn't backwards compatible with our other chargers AND released another car charger that could actually charge the phone at decent speed. tl;dr oneplus thought that they could gaslight us by slapping a fast charging icon and hoping nobody understood multiplication. They were probably right. [link] [comments]

Tasker tasks to disable/enable TPD + Set on boot profile. Posted: 18 Jul 2021 05:22 PM PDT Hi all, This isn't going to unlock the entirety of the S888 power as it doesn't mess with the OPPerf or any of that, but it does disable the TPD files by setting their read/write/modify values to 0 (essentially making no user able to modify them) I noticed a decent amount of performance improvement, and have thus set it to auto load the task on device boot, but have also included a task to re-enable the TDP should you not want to use it for whatever reason (ie:want better battery life) a reboot will also reset the permissions (assuming you aren't using the set on boot profile). Benchmarks went up from between 12-23 to around 88 ish by doing this. Note: You must be rooted for this to work You must have Tasker installed, and have imported the .tsk.xml files Tasker must be installed and granted root access as it uses a shell command to modify root permissions. Files: TPD On: https://app.box.com/s/w8mxwfmmhi9k8auqczkz0dqahv2yfhpp TPD Off: https://app.box.com/s/hae1qmnoifdv6fg3g8givjj6fhtdezow Profile for set on boot: https://app.box.com/s/hebtp529z2oep1u2fqg3lwtr4ry2rfcy Code for TDP off: chmod 000 /sys/module/tpd/parameters/tpd_* Code for TDP on: chmod 664 /sys/module/tpd/parameters/tpd_* The profile just invokes the TDP off at device boot. Phone constantly trying to connect to public wifi.. What do I change in settings to stop this? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 07:43 PM PDT I only want my phone to connect automatically to my home wifi and maybe my friends wifi which I have saved. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 07:32 PM PDT Buy a OnePlus phone today? I'm dumping the iPhone (12 Pro Max). It's just too much, and I'm sick of apple. I'm weighing a Pixel 5 or 9 Pro at the moment. I'm going to hold off on the Pixel 6 because any time Google tries something new, well, I'd rather wait. I'm curious about your thoughts, especially in light of recent news about throttling and the software updates. [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Jul 2021 08:19 AM PDT I am planning to get OnePlus Nord 2. My only concern is the chipset. I have heard that Mediatek processors are known for their lack of optimization and heating issues. Also, if in future I go for installing a custom rom, that would be an issue too. Is Nord 2 with the Dimensity 1200 a better choice than it's competitors? [link] [comments]

OnePlus 7 Pro power button not working Posted: 18 Jul 2021 11:27 AM PDT My phone's power button recently started behaving differently. When I press it while the screen is off, it doesn't turn on. I end up having to use the ring mode switch to get screen to light up so that I can unlock it. While the screen is on, the power button doesn't cause it to turn back off. Sometimes it randomly starts working again, so it's not completely broken. Sometimes a screen will pop up with emergency, power off and restart buttons at the top of the screen. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong or what I should do to get it fixed. I'm hoping it's not expensive to get fixed. [link] [comments]
OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren hard locking Posted: 18 Jul 2021 11:09 AM PDT Let me preface this by saying, I have had OnePlus phones pretty consistently since the 6T. When I first got this phone, I loved everything about it, and for the most part, I still do. However, ever since T-Mobile finally decided I was worthy of android 11, this phone has become borderline unusable. The first 11 update caused my phone to be a stuttery, slow mess. Chats refusing to load, apps refusing to work even after restarting, etc. The second update mostly fixed those issues, but in exchange, my phone will often completely lock up in the presence of, say, a flood of notifications or after an extended call. I must ask, has anyone experienced something similar? If so, have you found a solution? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 07:24 AM PDT Hello...So I have a dead 7T (my fault). Price difference between the 8T and 9 is $50 in the US today. I do not want the Pro line of the 8 or 9 due to the size and curved screen. I could care less about wireless charging. The aluminum vs plastic frame does not matter to me. The cameras seem to be a hodge podge. My 7T had a telephoto lense and I did not realize how much I appreciated that. It seems like telephoto is only available on the high end phones. Not sure it matters much. I guess I am looking for the best NON-Pro version of the OP phones...8T vs 9. Camera does seem to be a priority for me and the gcam port was amazing on the 7T. And flashing Lineage is important as well. One side of me is leaning toward the 8T because lineage is available as well as gcam port where the 9 only has unofficial at this point. But it is only a $50 difference between the 2. Thoughts? Maybe get my 7T fixed. lol..But considering it. Edit: Also, I care less about future software upgrades. I will install Lineage as soon as it is official and that will be supported much longer than OOS. [link] [comments]

OP5 having cellular connection issues since 10 update Posted: 18 Jul 2021 05:24 AM PDT Since I upgraded to OOS 10, sometimes the UI gets really slow (though that's bearable) but most importantly the cellular connection will simply stop working. As in, the status bar still shows whatever network the phone was connected to (3G, H, 4G, ...), but no packet ever comes in or out. I can launch Termux and start a ping to a random server, then walk a few meters and it stops pinging. The connection starts working again a few minutes later. I can also enable and disable airplane mode to make it work again immediately. This didn't happen with OOS 9, is there any hack/workaround/fix for this issue? (apart from downgrading, which iirc requires wiping the phone) [link] [comments]
Battery drain much higher than usual Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:31 AM PDT After charging my phone this morning, I noticed that my phone got very hot and the battery is plummeting. This had happened before but, never by this much. I have left a comment with a screenshot of the battery usage. Any help would be much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
