Laptop temps make sense when unplugged, but when plugged in it reports really high temps.

    Hey all,
I've had an Acer Nitro 5 for a year now - recently I noticed some performance issues and when I looked into it I realised that for some reason my CPU's temperatures were unnaturally high (75-80°C) when idling. Only Chrome and Discord were open. Initially, I thought it was the thermal paste being crappy and needed changing, so yesterday I went to a tech friend to help me out. We did an entire clean-up of the fans and reapplied better thermal paste.
The computer definitely has better performance after that. However, after we reassembled the laptop and tested whether it was working, we realised that the problem may have been something else. When unplugged, it showed normal CPU temperatures (around 50°C, stable). The moment the charger was plugged in, the temperature skyrockets from 50 to 70 in a matter of seconds, even though the temperature remains the exact same to the touch.
I don't know what the problem is - maybe the sensors are messed up and reporting the wrong temperatures?
Here's the clip I took of the occurrence: https://youtu.be/pyo-_k_8kuk
    Thank you!

My laptop suddenly becomes very slow

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 05:40 PM PDT

I used to get high fps and fast response rate with my laptop but yesterday it suddenly became very slow. Even just opening file explorer takes 5-8 secs which used to be just a sec.

I tried a lot of things to try to resolve it but non of it seems to help. I scanned it for malware, uninstalled a lot of apps, defragmented my disk, and updated everything that needs to be updated. What am I missing?

My laptop is Aspire E5-473G Intel i5 16gb ram Geforce 940M 300GB available disk space (hdd)

Corsair HS35 Mic not working properly

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 11:26 AM PDT

    Hello,

It seems that my Corsair HS35 mic isn't working. I've tried it on other devices and it works just fine.

I'm using the splitter that came with the headphones into an external USB sound card. I've also tried changing the mic sensitivity in windows settings along with discord settings. It just does not seem to work. and yes the mute button is not pressed in. I'd appreciate all the help I can get.

    Thanks in advance!

Laptop shuts down due to overheating when playing Valorant

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 10:28 AM PDT

What the title says, Laptop has 2 GPUs : "Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics" and "NVIDIA GeForce MX450".

I was wondering If I could fix the heat issue without buying any accessory or disassembling the laptop.

    Help would be appreciated.

My Oculus software on my PC will not allow me to use Oculus link and I have tried dozens of fixes, including help from Oculus support, and CAN NOT GET IT TO WORK. Have posted to other subs but don't want to repost to the same subs

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 09:39 AM PDT

First I want to say that it is most definitely an issue with the PC software, and NOT the Quest itself. I have an original Quest that I have tested and am experiencing the exact same problem with that as well. In addition, when testing the Quest 2 on a friends PC it worked perfectly fine. I have been using the quest software for over a year now with no issues whatsoever until about 10 days ago and have not been able to use it since.

When I initiate the Oculus link it will initially connect fine, and seems to work well. After anywhere between instantly and about 5 minutes in it will say PC disconnected. I can then reconnect to the Oculus link but it will claim I am using USB 2.0 instead of 3.0 and be very laggy as well as crash out again shortly after. This has made it impossible for me to use my Quest on my PC for around 10 days. The cable is not the issue as it works perfectly with other devices (including testing the Quest on another PC) as well as I have went as far as to test other USB 3.0.

So far the attempts that I have made to fix the issue, with no resolution are:

    - Rebooting my Quest and PC

    - Resetting up my Quest through the Oculus software

    - Making sure all software is up to date including graphics driver, windows version (including optional updates), Oculus software on PC, and Quest software on device.

    - Lowering graphical settings through the Oculus software

    - Making sure Quest is fully charged

    - Allowing Quest to completely deplete and recharge to full

    - Changing USB ports (am only using 3.0 and up, that have no issue with other devices)

    - Making sure the USB cable works fine, and outputs in 3.0, to other devices

    - Using other USB 3.0 cables

    - Using Oculus's "fix it" installation

    - Changing USB power plans to never turn USB device into an "off" state

    - Doing a complete clean of the Oculus software from my PC from ALL folders, and doing a completely clean reinstall

    - Booting through safe mode

    - Factory resetting Quest

    - Changing bitrate in the Oculus settings on desktop

    - Updating BIOS to newest version

PC Specs that may (probably not) be important to discussion

    Ryzen 5 3600x, EVGA 2070 Super, 64Gb DDr4 3600, 850Watt PSU

So far NOTHING has fixed my issue and has rendered playing certain games completely unusable. My main game I use the Quest for is iRacing and with it being a sim racer air link is NOT an option (as well as seems to also not work anyways.) I have supplied numerous log files of my quest not working to the Oculus support team, however nothing they have said to do has fixed my issue. They have initiated a request to exchange my device, however as stated before it is definitely an issue with my PC software and not the Quest itself.

If anyone can help me solve this problem that would be greatly appreciated.

URGENT: iPhone Storage Full, Stuck in Boot Loop

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 06:55 AM PDT

My father was unable to use his iPhone XR camera yesterday morning, due to "not enough storage available". Despite clearing his recently deleted folder, he was suddenly unable to open any apps as they kept crashing. He attempted to fix this by switching off the phone, only to find it stuck on the Apple logo reappearing as he tries to turn it back on.

The nearest Apple authorised service center says that there is not enough storage left on the phone to boot, and that it will have to be reformatted (with all data lost).

The phone holds valuable business data, memories, and most importantly, priceless medical records of my father's recent brain stroke. It is imperative that we recover the data on the phone somehow. Please, please help 🙏🏼

Please Help Me Remove Malware That Isn't Force Uninstalling

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 07:01 PM PDT

    Hello,

I'm a young kid who really isn't tech literate when it comes to malware removal. This evening, I was trying to help my brother install some Minecraft shaders, and I guess I pressed the wrong link once or twice.

Now I'm stuck with a "BokangSpeedup" that I know is malware. I went online and searched up some solutions in Youtube, which caused me to try and force uninstall (in control panel) this program. However, every time I try to forcefully uninstall this malware, a certain "Au_.exe" wants to make changes to my device, which doesn't happen for any other program.

Of course, I don't know much about malware removal, so this could be common. However, I don't want to take these risks before consulting support.

Does anyone have any links that could possibly help? I'm on a Windows 10 laptop, if that helps any. I apologize if anything is a little unclear; please let me know if you need clarification on anything I said.

AMD Graphics Drivers Not Working on clean Windows Install

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 03:15 PM PDT

    Computer Type: Desktop

    GPU: RX 5500 XT 8GB

    CPU: RYZEN 5 3600 6 CORE 12 THREADS

    Motherboard: AsRock B550M Steel Legend

BIOS Version: American Megatrends Inc. P1.10, 6/11/2020 SMBIOS Version: 3.2

    RAM: 16 GB Crucial Ballistix

PSU: Cooler Master 650 Watt semi-modular

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 10 Home

GPU Drivers: Various (Can't get the last two release as of June 29 to work. Also tried: Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.11.2 Recommended (WHQL) Adrenalin 21.5.2 Recommended (WHQL)

Description of Original Problem: I noticed dual monitor support wasn't working when I woke my computer up from sleep mode. Tried to reinstall drivers and windows crashed. Now even when I reinstalling windows I cannot successful install drivers. I either get error 39 in device manager or windows doesn't boot at all!

Troubleshooting: Tried reinstalling windows multiple times and tried different driver versions each time. Tried checking if driver would work in Ubuntu, but my motherboard has trouble working with Ubuntu 🙁. I've tried looking at windows log and disabling the AMD external service (this does stop the crashing), but I still can't install drivers or even run the Radeon software. I've even tried CSM vs. UEFI. I also tried to reseat the graphics card itself. Nothing is working. I have also messed around different version of chipset drivers. As for dual Monitors I confirmed that both ports are working. I just can use them because I don't have drivers.

Could the problem be the graphics card itself? Outside of the drivers not working on a perfectly clean install of windows there are no visual problems other than the screen going black when the computer is crashing. I don't do any overclock or under clocking. I run everything stock.
