Looking for a laptop for college and light gaming in Greece for under 700€ Posted: 19 Jul 2021 04:17 AM PDT **Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US I would like it under 650€ but can go up to 700€ Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? First is performance , then build quality battery life How important is weight and thinness to you? I would prefer to be under 2 kg and be quite portable Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I don't really care but I wouldn't want a laptop over 15.6 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I do light gaming and I would like to play Hitman , Assassin Creed 1, GTA IV, Minecraft and maybe Watch Dogs 2 and NBA 2k21 ( But it is not a must) If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I listed the games above and I would like to play them at least at 30 FPS Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I would like a SSD and above 512 gb or if not It has to have an upgradable storage space Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I have found this laptop and thought it was good enough https://www.kotsovolos.gr/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&productId=11961501&langId=-24&storeId=10151 Please tell me your opinion Also if you suggest laptop with No Os I would need advise on how to install windows [link] [comments] |
Should I buy a gaming laptop for programming? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 04:04 PM PDT I'm going to university soon and my current laptop is absolute trash. I'm looking to buy a new one for programming as I am really interested in it, but I also love to game now and then. So my question is should I buy a Gaming Laptop for around $2000 or should I go for a traditional laptop in the $2000 range. Just keep in mind I'm no a professional gamer. I'm a casual gamer just looking to play fun now and then. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:40 AM PDT I will use this laptop mainly for video editing and coding, zero gaming. I'm not considering purchasing a PC at the moment because I'm looking for something more portable in university. Any suggestion is appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 01:36 AM PDT -I was hoping to find a device under $90, preferably more around $40 or $50 if that's possible -I want to be able to save/keep the pages I make as files I can pull up and edit later on the notepad, instead of just pictures that are downloaded later. -I would like it if it had some support for folders or some sort of organization system, whether that be through interfacing with a laptop or onboard storage -I want something that has a screen of its own, but if there isn't anything good below $90 I will look for a digitizer. Is there even something out there that meets those criteria? [link] [comments] |
Suggest a nice laptop for University Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:16 AM PDT Hello, I'm from India and I'm going to join University for Computer Science with Specialization in Artificial Intelligence. I'm planning on buying a laptop, I want to use it mainly for programming. I need decent performance for Programming, Editing Documents, Online Classes, Exams, Occasionally Movies/Netflix I don't care much about Video Editing and I don't want it to be heavy like the gaming laptops. I also want decent battery life. It's nice if the laptop would have decent connectivity both wireless and through ports. I'm not interested in using my laptop for gaming much except at rare occasions I just play Valorant and nothing else. I also, don't care much about high graphics, I just want it to be playable, that's it. I came across Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 and it perfectly fits my budget. I'm willing to spend 60k to 75k INR on the laptop. But I'm confused as to pick the i5 1135G7 variant or the Ryzen 7 5700U variant. Both variants are identical in other specifications having 16GB ram with 512GB NVMe SSD which is further expandable. It has a 57Wh battery and the official website mentions it gives 11+ hours of battery life. I also decided to go with Lenovo considering the fact that Lenovo has excellent after sales service in my country. I'm hoping if anyone could suggest me which one to pick or if you have any other suggestions fitting my requirements. Here are the official website links for both the variants: [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Jul 2021 05:07 AM PDT I'm a university student and I really need a new laptop but I don't know which one to choose.I need it for school work and regular use (e.g. watching videos). I don't play video games and I'm not planning on using it for photo/video editing either, but I'd like to have a reliable laptop for the next few years. I'd prefer one with Windows, 14-16 inch screen, at least an Intel Core i5 / AMD Ryzen 5 CPU, 8GB RAM should be good for multitasking with at least 256 GB storage in my opinion. Good quality keyboard would be great because I would primarliy use it for online school and when I write my thesis and do research online. My budget is 500€-800€ ($590-$950). Any suggestion is welcomed. [link] [comments] |
Need help with a laptop for university. Posted: 19 Jul 2021 04:53 AM PDT Hey guys and gals, I need help with choosing a laptop. I'm off to uni in 2 months and have no clue which one to get. I've found a few that I like but can't decide. I'll be studying software engineering. The choice in Europe is kind of limited and most laptops are rather expensive compared to US variants (well, at least here in Serbia). I have narrowed the choice down to these few:
Should I possibly wait until September for something better? Any advice is welcome! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Jul 2021 04:49 AM PDT I'm mostly enthusiastic about the steam deck as it looks to be a powerful gaming pc for a good price (I pre-ordered the £459 but of course, I can cancel it). However, would I be better off getting a gaming laptop for that price? I currently don't have a pc as I sold it when I bought my m1 mac and it outperformed it (apart from gaming of course). TIA. Laptop for doing masters in Cyber Security Posted: 19 Jul 2021 02:12 AM PDT Hey all, hope youre all doing good. I am thinking of going for masters in cyber security as I want to change my current Comp Sci career into the infosec world. I currently have a macbook m1 air which is a fantastic laptop but cannot run linux natively and the vm options are limited. What I want: To be able to dual boot Windows and Linux or run either via a VM. 16 GB Ram atleast A laptop that I can take to lecture halls. Which means loud fan noise is a big no. Not fussed about running games on the laptop. I was looking a Thinkpad e14 v2 AMD laptop which seems pretty good. What do you guys think? Or should I just stick with m1 macbook and hope a native port of linux will be available for mac? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Jul 2021 02:11 AM PDT Requirements: Programming, MS Office, iGPU must handle very rare Valorant Gameplay in playable settings I've googled the benchmarks and they're very confusing. i5 has better single core score with total of 4 cores, Ryzen 7 has better multi-core score with 8 cores. Which would best suit my requirement [link] [comments] |

If indifferent, put N/A. I don't really care about screen sizes whatever is fine. * Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will probably do a little gaming but not to much I have a consle for that. * If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? Lenovo Ideapad 5 vs Acer Swift 3 Posted: 19 Jul 2021 01:08 AM PDT Both are 14" and have identical components, except for the fact that the Acer has a 1TB SSD, whereas the Lenovo has 512GB, but I don't think I need that much space anyway, so it's not a significant factor. Also the Lenovo has three 3.0 USB ports, but the Acer has two 3.0 ports and one 2.0. Everything else being equal, I'm leaning towards the Acer just because of the SSD difference. However, I have read on other subreddits that the Acer has a bad screen and keyboard? But it has an aluminum chassis, compared to Lenovo being plastic. So I really don't know. Is one objectively better than the other? Or am I overthinking the choice and it comes down to personal preference? [link] [comments] |
I'm receiving a laptop as a gift but I need help choosing one for two things: Classes and Gaming. Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:58 AM PDT Im attending college again soon, and between paying for classes and a new car I desperately needed, I was judt going to try and make my current laptop last a little longer. My grandma offered to buy me a new laptop as a gift to help me get back into classes. As i mentioned above, i use a laptop for two things, handling my schoolwork which mostly includes taking notes, research, video calls, etc. (Im a business major so programs like word and excel are mostly everything I need). The other thing i use my current laptop for is pc gaming through steam. Im not at all looking to play brand new AAA games, but id appreciate a laptop that can handle smaller games. It might not be me whos buying it, but i dont want my grandma to rack up a huge bill. I'm looking forward to hearing back from you guys. [link] [comments] |
US: Dell inspiron 7000 vs HP Spectre x360 vs Lenovo Yoga 9i for grad student Posted: 18 Jul 2021 04:50 PM PDT Hi, I'm looking for a laptop for graduate school (statistics). I'm looking for something less than $1,700 and I'm open to open-box. I definitely need something relatively fast, lots of storage, and that has decent RAM so I can run statistical programs while doing other things. It would be great if the laptop was light and had a decent battery life, but the only thing I definitely hate in a a laptop is one that turns into a lap toaster and has loud fans. Any insight you have is appreciated! Need a laptop for Adobe software, programming and a little bit of gaming (Under 2k CAD) Posted: 18 Jul 2021 10:34 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
My current laptop is Dell XPS 9560 with touch-screen. I paid a lot for it. But it keeps melting my power adapter tip (I'm on my 3rd one now; cost $120 each time to replace it) and out of warranty. Shame that I have to replace it, because its in good shape other than that issue and works well. Feel like I'm putting the still good hardware to waste. [link] [comments] |
HP Pavilion 15-eg0021nr, 2020 -- a good buy? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 10:24 PM PDT Budget: 900 USD Location: USA Minimum screen size: 15" Use case: web browsing, online shopping, MS Office -- 99% of the time at home Was looking for a laptop for my other half that actually functions (her previous bargain basement laptops can barely run three tabs of Edge or Windows Update). I had asked around before, but I have since upped the budget. A friend recommended a 14" HP sold at Staples, but she was not pleased with the screen size. I eyed the 15-eg0021nr, 2020 which Amazon is selling for $900. The specs seem good, but I know specs aren't everything. I wanted to see what others thought (Amazon reviews are so unreliable for me lately). In the past, some had suggested Thinkpads, but I wonder if this might be going overboard, even with the E series. I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Looking for a work laptop + Photo Editing and gaming on the side, USA, under $2000 Posted: 18 Jul 2021 02:31 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE $2000 Yes to Refurbished, No to Used Build Quality>Battery Life>Form Factor>Performance Would like it to be light enough to take it to a cafe and fit in a backpack. Doesn't have to be razor thin. 14-15 inch is ideal, but could be convinced for a 13 or a 16 inch laptop. If it's 16:10 or 3:2 that would be great because I will likely be using it for coding but I would also be ok with a 16:9. Mostly Lightroom and Games Dota 2 with at least 60 fps Accurate Colors and Contrast would be great especially for photo editing. Other than that high refreshrate would be cool as well but it's not absolutely necessary. Currently eyeing on the ASUS Zephyrus G14 (I'm a bit hesitant on no webcam but I think I can live without it). I also could live with a Asus Zenbook or a Dell XPS 15 with a discrete graphics card...
