What android apps would you add to windows?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 05:10 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

So windows 11 is going to allow sideloading and downloading of android apps. I was just curious if there were any apps people were looking forward to adding to windows.

For me personally, I want to try to sideload the google voice recorder because it has one of the best local voice-to-text I have ever come across.

Just interested to see what other people want to sideload.

I think this post doesn't break any of the rules if it does please let me know I will delete it

checkpoints founder on android security vs iphone

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 07:09 PM PDT

Here is a short article that makes a few really good standout points in the android vs ios security
    debates.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2021/03/16/iphone-12-pro-max-and-iphone-13-not-more-secure-than-google-and-samsung-android-warns-cyber-billionaire/

Now he is a security company founder, that does sell security software. but, his points are valid. Because of the nature of android, security software as the access and visibility to add in your protection. on ios said software does not..

Why aren't phone speakers equalized out of the box?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 11:28 AM PDT

EQ involves the raising and lowering of certain frequencies in specific bands. EQ exists to balance out the sound coming out of whatever speaker preludes it, and so, tiny phone speakers obviously will have a unbalanced, unlikable sound.

Looking at a frequency response chart of a specific phone, as DXOMARK has rated for some, you can raise and lower frequencies according to such chart, using a system wide EQ, such as Wavelet. Wavelet is also good for EQing specific models of headphones within the app, but I digress.

The sound difference in quality is significant, and I wonder why more companies don't have onboard EQs. Some ship with Dolby Atmos which EQs, but only generally in the context of phone speakers and not a specific phone.

So, why don't companies do this?

    A light alarm clock.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 10:47 AM PDT

Lots of people unable to hear have to use different ways to wake up in the morning like vibration and light. I'm not one of those but I've never waked up more refreshed than when I used an app that used smartphone screen brightness to wake me up. Trust me: it works. You can detect the light very easily (increasing over 15 or 30 min) and, if worried, you can set up a sound alarm too.

"Then use the app". The problem is that Android is not well suited for it so in most smartphones is a pain to use and you have to give up permissions and sometimes it just doesn't work. The app stopped working after an update and dev was just one person so nothing happened.

Do you think Android should include a built-in feature to allow this light alarm mode so everybody can wake up in the way our ancestors did for millenia? The alternative is far more expensive, less efficient: smartbulbs.
