    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:48 PM PDT

Hello all r/Samsung members. I wanted to show you a couple facts about Samsung's rumoured "Sam" assistant that is to replace Bixby. Read on to find out more.

    Wait... who is Sam?

Last weekend, illustration studio Lightfarm Studios released a concept idea for "Samsung Galaxy's virtual assistant" named Sam before taking down their publication and accompanying social media posts. The company published several images of the virtual character which quickly went viral as people started to discuss the new idea and share their reactions.

    1. Samsung Sam is RUMORED, and is not OFFICIAL

Samsung has not released any information on "Sam", and this assistant is simply just a render by a Samsung Marketing subsidiary, Lightfarm. Lightfarm wrote: "Throughout the process, the team devoted itself to developing realistic materials, mainly for the character's hair and clothing, so that Sam appeared aesthetically pleasing. "Sam was an incredible partnership between the Cheil Agency and Lightfarm, and we are thrilled to be part of this project!"

    2. Samsung Sam is NOT 17

This is just a faked tweet and is not official. This image has been circulating this subreddit and others for a while now, it is unbelievably easy to fake this. If you want to be technical about it, the proper age is 48hours (as of now).

    3. Samsung does NOT have a release date for "Sam"

Like I previously said, this is not official yet. If it does come out (most likely not to), there will be an event to showcase the new assistant. Lightfarm did not discuss what the virtual assistant will help users with. It's not clear whether the images were part of a concept or were a final design made for Samsung.

    Conclusion

What is clear now is that Sam is a hit on social media so far, with lots of users taking to various platforms, including Twitter, to comment on their approval of the new look and design. For now, those hoping Sam is Samsung's new virtual assistant will need to wait on firm confirmation from the company, as well as an explanation on whether Sam is actually designed to be a full voice and virtual assistant replacement for Bixby.

Any Rule 34 images, videos or websites being posted here will be removed and will result in a 30 day ban.

I will add more info as this goes on. If I miss out anything, feel free to comment.

The potential of Samsung virtual assistant

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 02:32 AM PDT

By now, we have all heard of Sam-the unofficial, WIP virtual assistant of Samsung. This has got me thinking about how much potential this has. The reality is that people are quite lonely nowadays so a virtual assistant with a visual representation would definitely be a hit. I mean the Japanese even got an AI Hologram Wife. The virtual assistant feature has been mostly ignored because of its simple AI and simplistic design, most of the times, it is a disembodied voice. Now imagine a VA with the following features:

    - A visual representation of the VA on screen when you call her. For the example, when i ask for assistance, Sam would pop out from the side of the screen.

    - When i ask her to open an app, there could be an animation of she scrolling through the apps and then reach for and open the app i want.

    - There could be unique animations such as her reaching for an app that is on the top row or her carrying the app icon like a box or she struggling to carry and app that is heavy or dusting off an app that hasnt been touched in a while.

    - Customization. You could change Sam clothes or her hair styles or the outfit could be changed depending on the weather (sunny, raining, cloudy...). She could even remind you about the weather like warning you when a rain is coming. You could also customize how she refers to you by inputting your name.

    - You could input your birthday and Sam would celebrate it when you open your phone for the first time of your birthday.

    - Sam knocking on the screen and calling your name as a form of alarm bell.

In general, the idea of having a virtual assistant living inside your phone is definitely one that i think would sell. While im not sure about the specific technical aspect of this, i think its do able to a certain degree with modern phone technology. This could be the future and Samsung is now the first and might be able to capitalize on this. With people living alone and with little human connection, this would definitely sell like hotcakes. Not to mention the monetization potential of it. I'm excited for future prospect of this.

Bixby refuses to work when driving

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 02:20 AM PDT

Recently Bixby started to refuse to work when driving.

If I say something like "Bixby increase volume by 20%" I will get "Can't do that while you are driving" which is idiotic because driving is precisely when I want to do things via voice commands. Funny enough I can ask Google assist to do it and it works fine.

    Has anyone expiriance this?

Found this Samsung phone on my way home. Can't figure out which one it is.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 08:23 AM PDT

    Hey all,

I found this Samsung phone while I was walking home yesterday. I haven't been able to figure out what kind it is.

I don't know how to add pictures or picture links so, I have to describe it.

It's dark blue with three vertical cameras and a headphone jack. The sim card tray is on the top left. The power and volume buttons are on the right side. The screen is completely shattered.

I can't ask a specialist since the nearest one is halfway across the city, and I don't have money for the bus.

    Thanks in advance.

Will my Samsung Galaxy A30s (SM-A307FN/DS) work with US cellular networks ?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 07:21 AM PDT

I'll be visiting the US in a couple of months from now and I was wondering if my Samsung Galaxy A30s would be compatible with US GSM SIM cards/services

Please let me know(and if you've had a first hand experience with it by any chance), it would be much appreciated.

    Which phone to upgrade to?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 05:00 AM PDT

Been thinking about ugpgrading. Now I realise I should upgrade bc I'm getting weird issues w my phone (like it spontaneously rebooting even on 100% battery, corrupt/green photos, spazzing out and glitching when scrolling on a webpage sometimes, hazy camera if I zoom in past 1.8x, USB C charger only working on one side) Originally wanted to get the Note 20 Ultra (the S10 5g is my first Samsung and 2nd Android; had a Huawei Mate 20 Pro before and before that iPhones) notably because of the camera Is the camera any better on the S21 or S21+ or S21 Ultra 5g? The note 20 ultra is supposed to be great in low light which I appreciate (going to concerts and stuff) - I've seen on the newer phones you can go through video and pinpoint a photo to take; can you do that in the Note 20 Ultra? I also love the idea of the S Pen I've found the iPhone camera to be more intuitive to be honest, but I love the Samsung and also I have a Samsung Galaxy Active watch so a little dumb to go back Or even the fold cos it can act q bit like a tablet? Which one do you think? Am planning on getting a 'refresh' contract (so I pay 2 parts; the phone and the data and if I want a new phone I effectively sell them my old one back and put the cost towards paying off a new phone. And once I've paid off the cost of the phone I just pay for the data)

Does Samsung smartphones/Tablet battery deteriorate faster?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 12:58 AM PDT

My wife is thinking of buying a new phone. We're a couple that will only replace a gadget if the said gadget has run it's due course so we don't buy on a fixed schedule. My wife is eyeing a Samsung phone but my sister in law said Samsung batteries has a tendency to die quicker than most phones from other manufacturers. I would have said it was maybe just bad luck, as there's a chance of a factory defect. I'd started to say this but realized I was holding a 6 year old Samsung Tablet that I had the battery replaced 3 years ago because it kept overheating and couldn't keep a charge long anymore.

So I was thinking there might be some truth to it. I remember the news about Samsung batteries exploding but that was a design flaw so it's not what I'm talking about. Was this true? More importantly if it is; is it still true?

S21 Ultra Worth the Upgrade From Note 10+?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 07:02 PM PDT

Hey, everyone. Verizon is offering $800 off of the S21 Ultra (among other Samsung phones) if you trade in your old phone and have certain unlimited plans or will be upgrading to one of those plans. I qualify for the $800 off. I was wondering if you guys think the S21 Ultra is worth upgrading to from the Note10+. I like my Note10+, but that $800 off is pretty tempting.

FYI: I don't like that the MicroSD card slot goes away but I can deal with it so that isn't a concern.

Here is a link for more info on the Verizon deal if you might be interested in upgrading yourself. https://www.verizon.com/support/800-off-smartphone-trade-in-offer-faqs/#:~:text=Get%20up%20to%20%24800%20off%20an%20eligible%20device,and%20will%20be%20determined%20during%20the%20trade-in%20process.
