How can I help my grandmother get rid of ads on the landing/starting screen of her Android Phone? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:47 PM PDT The pictures shows the locked screen. I guess that there are some malicious activity, but how do I find out what app is causing it and how do I remove it? [link] [comments] |
Undismissable notification forbspotify/pocket cast Posted: 04 Jun 2021 09:49 PM PDT Using miui 12. Can't seem to dismiss this. It lives in the notification area when I drag down from the top bar. Any ideas. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Question about cmd package bg-dexopt-job Posted: 04 Jun 2021 09:48 PM PDT Coming from an old generation Nokia numpad phone to owning an Android phone (OnePlus 8T), got a lot of information to digest but I guess the learning curve isn't as steep as iOS. The battery drain does however concern me. Then I got into some reading about the captioned adb command, which is something to do with the app optimization when phone is charged to 100% overnight and left idle. Question is, do I need to run this adb command every time I installed/ updated the apps? Also, how well does this command really help to lower the battery drain? Appreciate any veteran android user to share your experience/ finding. :) [link] [comments] |
Encrypted SD is readable without original device but will not format? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 08:51 PM PDT So I leant my spare phone to a friend for a month - Galaxy Note w/ Lineage 17.1 - and while he had it he flashed another rom (Havoc, I think). It's just a muck-around phone so he didn't think I'd mind if he tried the new OS and I wouldn't, except - he ran full internal format/wipe in twrp without Decrypting/Backing up .key for the SDXC... Now there wasn't anything on the encrypted SD that wasn't backed up and it works without any issues on the phone (fine with Havoc/Lineage/RR so far) and in Win 10 - I can copy over the media files, flash any zips on there through twrp etc. all without any errors reported. But it's locked as an image from a month or so ago - same media files, same app folders - and there's nothing I can do to change that. I want to flash a new rom/transfer new files to it but even though it says the files have been transfered to the sd, you blink and it's reverted back to where it was previously. Same if I try to delete the files already on there - says it's deleted them then they pop back up moments later. Attempting to format the SD either completes but then returns to previous state (Android) or fails with error message (Win 10, TWRP wipe). There is literally nothing on the SD I need to back up so no problem to do a scorched-earth format. And I need to transfer files onto it (again, files "transfer" through Explorer or via Wifi then disappear moments later) but I can't even get it to format so I can start over. If it showed traditional signs of corruption I'd flick it, but it's becoming my white whale. Any suggestions appreciated. [link] [comments] |

USB-C connection to PC issue (it's a doozy) Posted: 04 Jun 2021 08:26 PM PDT Alright, so here's the deal. I bought a new cable recently. It's a usb-c to usb-c I'm trying to use to connect my galaxy s8 to my laptop via the usb-c port. When I plug it in, my laptop makes the sound that a device has been connected, but the phone does not charge and does not appear anywhere on my system. The phone itself does both things when connected via a different cable that is standard usb to micro usb with a usb-c adapter. So you might say that the issue is with the new cable. I would be inclined to agree, however the cable does exactly what I need when used to connect my laptop's usb-c port to an old galaxy s3 with micro usb using an adapter included with the cable. Additionally, the problem persists when using the standard usb to micro usb cable and adapters to usb-c on both ends, which works on the galaxy s3 as well. So the issue seems to lie with the galaxy s8. I noticed when the new cable is plugged into it, swiping down from the top allows for the "charging connected device via usb" to appear even though the phone is not charging. I can click into that to change the "USB controlled by" setting, but after tapping the "this phone" option, it blinks for a bit and goes back to "connected device". I found others online having this particular issue, but none of them seemed to coincide with the usability via different cables and different devices. So I'm at a bit of a loss. It feels like a case of accessing some permission that got switched off by accident or something, but someone please help. I'm happy to answer any further questions [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:59 PM PDT i just got an a72 and wanted to bring my whatsapp data from my huawei mate 9. i tried replacing the whatsapp folder with the old one and putting the backup files on my new phone but whatsapp won't seem to use them. (I reinstalled multiple times). it only seems to look for google drive backups. problem is when I try to back up to drive from my old phone it wants to upload 7gbs of data for some reason. that's a bit too much for me to upload and download. i am only interested in the chat history, not the audio or media. is there something i can do here? XCover Pro Spare Battery Charger Posted: 04 Jun 2021 07:23 PM PDT Came across the Samsung X Cover Pro in a search to replace my LG V30 that will need to be put out to pasture soon. I really miss having a user replaceable battery, and honestly I'm shocked there's a decent phone left out there that has it, but it seems like a swing and a miss by Samsung because I can't find a battery charging cradle for it anywhere. Has anyone made anything work? [link] [comments] |
Connected, No Internet on Galaxy Tab A Posted: 04 Jun 2021 08:10 PM PDT I have a Samsun Galaxy Tab A (Model SM-T550) and until a couple of days ago, my WiFi was working perfectly fine. However, now it just says Connected, No Internet. I have several other devices in my home, and the WiFi works perfectly fine. It seems to be a device-specific problem. Any idea what the issue could be? I have already tried restarting my device as well as forgetting the network and then reconnecting. [link] [comments] |
Setting up an Android for a kid. Posted: 04 Jun 2021 09:31 AM PDT I have tried family link and I find it lacking. Kids can still look up inappropriate things via Google. Is there something I'm missing? Is there another app I can stack on top of this? My kids need phones but they just aren't respecting the limits. I still want location tracking, but not unfettered access to the internet. Help me reddit-wan Kenobi. You're my only hope. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 06:39 PM PDT It's been working that way until recently off and on. When someone would send me a text message it would stay as a notification until I actually went in the message chain. This would allow me to open up messages and go to a different chain without removing the notification. Google pixel 5 Android 11 T-Mobile [link] [comments] |
Google Messenger can't send messages with VPN turned on Posted: 04 Jun 2021 11:22 AM PDT This is really dumb to me. I use Google Messenger that has Enhanced Chatting (RCS) features enabled. However, I use a VPN. For some dumb reason, messages cannot be sent or received while my VPN is active. Unless it is SMS, no messages come in or out. This seems really dumb of Google to block the usage of a VPN while using the app. [link] [comments] |
Looking for an Android recording app. Posted: 04 Jun 2021 02:55 AM PDT Looking for a video recording app that can record, and not stop recording unless there's a pincode put in. I'd like this to be able to record myself if I'm ever confronted by a police officer for my safety & well being. This is also so they cannot delete the file. Unsure how this will help me if they break the phone and I can't access the flash memory but that will be another issue. [link] [comments] |
The "Next OnePlus" For Android Devices Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:12 PM PDT As the title says, I'm looking for the "next OnePlus". I always loved OnePlus for making AAA flagship phones, at half the price. As most OnePlus fans will agree, they've been on a downhill rollercoaster in the last fews years, with their hardware arguably being the only part of the device that's high quality. I'm looking for more companies like this, that challenge the high ends, like Samsung, Apple, etc. and provide solid AAA flagship phones at half the price. I am a HUGE user of my device, so it will need a good resource pool. Everything from gaming, to programming/compliling & running programs. I even use it for my daily work professionally. Preferably it'd be great at really hard use, while also still providing at least a pretty decent multitasking experience. Thank you for any suggestions! (And I am aware of pixel. From what I can tell, it might be a bit slow when being used on my really harsh days.) [link] [comments] |
Alarmy loading screen doesn't take picture turns on camera Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:12 PM PDT Hi, I've noticed that when I try to take a picture with the app Alarmy the loading screen doesn't take the picture and turns on the camera. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you solve it? This is my phone model https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=droom.sleepIfUCan&hl=en Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 04:57 PM PDT I'm looking for a better way to control my volume. System wide is fine, but this is mainly needed for media. Is there any free app that allows you to change the number of volume steps when pressing the volume buttons on the phone? It jumps from quiet to loud. I want many more steps when increasing/decreasing volume. I'm running a xiaomi redmi note 10 with the latest firmware. [link] [comments] |
Mygica ATV1960 Android box Pooched? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:02 PM PDT Loads to home screen, can click to Settings-Updates and that's all. Click netflix and while it loads fine it's only stable for about10 seconds before it goes to a blue screen. Elsewise, any click goes to blue screen. I'm thinking it's bricked, which is a shame. gallery: ignoring images in a whole directory tree Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:07 PM PDT I like to keep a copy of my music collection on my phone for more-convenient-than-looking-songs-up-online listening. Unfortunately, the gallery picks up all the cover images, so it thinks I have hundreds and hundreds of different photograph directories that I want presented to me...thus rendering any attempt at organizing any pictures I've actually taken or saved useless. Is there either (a) a way to simply tell it "look, just ignore everything under this directory, including all subdirectories, when you're looking for images, or (b) an alternate gallery program that does offer such common-sense features (ideally in F-droid, or at least not adware/spyware/scamware/upgrade-to-premium-now!!!-ware) [link] [comments] |

[HELP] Hosts file only blocking websites when on WiFi Posted: 04 Jun 2021 10:43 AM PDT Hey, I'm currently trying to limit my usage of certain sites, for which the hosts file worked great because it takes just enough effort to stop me from editing it. The problem is, that it's only working on WiFi. I habe the sites blocked for both ipv4 and ipv6. Can someone give insight to why this doesn't work? Thanks. Here's what my hosts file looks like:

Why won't my Google autofill payment details update Posted: 04 Jun 2021 09:52 AM PDT Hi all, I have a p30 pro and have had my bank cards saved using Google pay forever. I have a new bank card and have removed it from my Google account. On all devices it is fine but my phone, for some reason that shows my old card which I removed. When I press it I get an error code OR-PMIA-18 which no doubt means card doesn't exist... I'm not sure how to remove it and get my actual card to autofil after completing the cvc. [link] [comments] |
Picture in picture not working for any video streaming. Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:28 PM PDT This started happening maybe a week after Android 11 update for moto g 5, all videos just fly off the screen but continue playing audio, if I open another app and keyboard pops up, the video shows up, if I try to move it, it swipes off the screen again, plus, the entire app gets swiped away, video continues playing. Need help fixing this, has anyone had this issue lately? [link] [comments] |
