Purpose of cd rom source in apt repositories

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:32 AM PDT

As the title says. What was the purpose in the early days of this source in apt ? Were updates burned to CD and shipped to users ?

How do I partition my harddrive to dual boot Windows 10 and Garuda Linux?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 08:43 AM PDT

Following is the partition scheme of my harddrive:-

    600 MB - EFI partition

    600 GB - NTFS Windows 10 partition

    70 GB - Btrfs /root partition

    300 GB - Btrfs /home partition

    4 GB - Swap space

Using the aforementioned partitioning, I'm unable to install system updates in Windows 10.

Please suggest how should I partition my harddrive in order to solve the problem.

Edit: The reason for believing that there's a problem in my partitioning is because I've deleted the System Reserved Partition and Recovery Partition and moved the windows boot files to EFI partition. So now whenever I try to install windows updates, it installs for like 80% and then starts showing the error message "Windows can't install updates. Undoing the changes".

How do I change the espeak "voice" on my Ubuntu machine?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 01:03 PM PDT

If I use espeak or some other text-to-speech software, I can get my computer to talk to me. I can change the speed and the pitch of the voice, but it always sounds pretty computer-y. Is there a way to make it sound more human? Are there language packs that can be installed to make it sound more like either my GPS's voice or Iron Man's Jarvis?

    10 percent boot rate

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 02:17 PM PDT

I'm currently running a dual boot with Manjaro GNOME and Win10, and for some reason, Manjaro only actually boots to the login screen once every 10 times or so. Once it works, it works as normal, but usually I'm just met with a blank screen and I have to force shutdown. How do I fix this?

Unable to connect galaxy buds in Linux Mint 20.1 "Ulyssa" - Xfce ?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 01:59 PM PDT

Ever since I updated from linux mint 19.3 to 20.1 my bluetooth never seems to work correctly now. Before I had no issues with connecting to my galaxy buds but now every time I try to connect it will do so for about 5 seconds and then disconnect and display the message "resource temporarily unavailable". Have tried uninstalling blueman and blueberry, then reinstalling both and still having the same problem.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Ubuntu not detecting WiFi card

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 01:56 PM PDT

Running Ubuntu 20.04, on a Lenovo Legion 5.

I was having problems changing the drivers for my gpu, and was recommended to run '''sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall'''. Afterwards, the gpu driver problem has been fixed, but now when looking at WiFi settings, it says there is no WiFi card, but it was working fine earlier. If anyone could give me some advice, it would be very much appreciated!

Edit: Running sudo lshw-c network returns:

Why does APT sometimes doesn't update to the latest package version?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 02:54 AM PDT

Depending on my Ubuntu version, I used to get old versions of MySQL and nodejs. apt install php for example installed 7.4.3 PHP and not 8.xx. Why is that the case? Why not install the latest stable version of a package instead of making the user manually do it?

    glitched desktop

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 08:52 AM PDT

hi, i installed linux mint in my laptop and im having a glitched screen problem. i tried to install it from a usb but when i booted from the usb the screen was glitched so i tried with another distro (linux lite) and another usb but it was always the same. then i realized there was an option to boot on a "compatibility mode" from the usb so i did that. it worked fine so i decided to install it but when i booted again, this time from the hard drive with linux mint, i had the same problem. what should i do? i guess is a drivers problem because ive already tried to connect it to another display but it still looked bad. btw, is an ideapad 320 15abr with an a12 9720p

shutdown -r in a few days

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 07:22 AM PDT

Is it possible to schedule a single reboot on a future date? I know you can set one to a certain time, but I am not sure if or how you could set it to a date in the future. Let's say it is 2021-04-30 and I want to set the reboot to 2021-05-3 23:00. Can I do that from the command line or would I have to add a cron job (but single executions really isn't?

Thanks in advance and best regards

Dual booting Linux with windows 10 problem

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 08:42 AM PDT

I have a 4gb ram, core i5 8th generation Asus x509fb laptop with 1TB hdd but no ssd. I have been using windows 10 for more than a year but with slow experience.

But the only problem with windows is that it often consumes more than 2.5gb ram at idle. As a multitasking user it has become more difficult for me to use my laptop comfortably.

Some days ago, while trying to dual boot with Linux lite and removing it, I accidentally broke my pc. Computer service told me that I have broken my hdd. So I lost all my important data.

My question is as i have said that I can't multitask faster and smoothly in windows 10, I am so much confused that should I take the risk of dual booting again. And if yes, then how to do it safely I mean without risk?

N.B: Pls don't advice me to increase ram or ssd. Though I know increasing ram and ssd will be able to solve my problem. But I can't afford it now.

Terminal shows for a millisecond, closes, and continues to run in the background

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 01:31 PM PDT

info: Mint Cinnamon, i3 and uses terminator but has gnome-terminal installed

I think i hit some kind of keybinding. However, while in terminator, terminator suddently dissapeared. Not a problem, just tried opening a new terminator with win+return, the standard i3 keybind for exec i3-sensible-terminal. However, as i said in the title, didn't work.

After not finding anything on duckduckgo i restarted my computer and changed wm to the cinnamon builtin. I started gnome-terminal with win+enter, the terminal i used before moving to i3, and it worked. Started terminator without any flags or sudo access from gnome-terminal, and it worked.

However, starting terminator from the program menu or what you call it (the pop up menu you get from pressing win) did not work.

As a temporary fix, i got into i3 again, started gnome-terminal with rofi, and edited the i3 config with nano and set the win+return keybind to exec gnome-terminal. But the same thing happened as before!

Keep in mind, the terminals continued to run in the background. Every time i tried launching a terminal, i could see a bash process pop up in gnome-system-monitor.

    SSH via different country problems

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:19 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

So I have multiple pi's setup with basic Raspbian 32-bit. Mostly I don't have issues, but one pi in particular won't see to allow ssh from India. I'm in the US and working with a buddy on a project and I just can't figure this out. I attempted to edit the sshd_config with anything that obviously would prevent it. I can access it outside of my home network no problem. I'll paste it here incase I'm such a noob and I'm just missing something really obvious. But it's odd because other builds don't have this issue.

    Thanks
