Posted: 28 Apr 2021 03:37 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 700 to 1500 euros (Republic of Ireland) Are you open to refurbs/used? yes How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Built quality and as modular as possible in this price range, batery would come in second place. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not extreme important but I do study away from home and come every weekend Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Not really but I am not a big fan of the 13 in, specially if bezels are thick Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will sometimes edit images but its rare, I will run several different IDEs and VMs, I am not decided yet, but I may wet my toes on 2D and 2.5D game development so will use Unity sometime soon. Despite interest in game development, I am not a big pc gamer, would be nice to play the odd Diablo session, especially when in college away from consoles but I don't play anything too demanding and it's not a deal breaker if I can't play. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I play mostly jrpg that are not demanding at all. Most demanding game I will be playing is Diablo II and IV. I don't play online with others or competitively. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I use mechanical keyboard and wireless mouse but would be nice to have a decent keyboard if I need to use it in class. It needs to have a good screen and quality build, preferably not plastic case and good as silent as possible fans Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I don't have money generally, I got a grant from the college to help me to finance some of the costs and added to some savings I can now afford more as long as it will last me, that is why its important to be as modular as possible even if just upgrade ram and SSD in future, the longer it will last me the more I can pay up to the end of my budget. Laptop for streaming games and vtube Posted: 28 Apr 2021 02:42 AM PDT Hi! I want to save up for a new laptop or PC so I can play games and stream them! I looked into some ""budget"" gaming laptops but the reviews made me unsure how streaming would work on these. Some I liked came without a camera and I need that.. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Is 1660 Ti still good enough for 2021 gaming? Posted: 27 Apr 2021 02:46 PM PDT Specifically looking at this thing https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08LW575X9 It is really overpriced since I have seen a few laptops in this price range that come with RTX 3070 Like this for example https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08QYZYSMC which looks to be better in pretty much every way at the same price. Only reason I'm considering the Razer is because its one of the few laptops that offer the Amazon monthly payments over 12 months. My broke ass lives on fixed disability bux and the income is below what any credit company will consider so its basically buying what's available from the amazon payments or saving for a long ass time or waiting and hoping something decent will go on amazon payments i guess. Wondering if that overpriced Razer is still good enough for all the newest games and if it can at least run VR games semi adequately, can live with getting ripped off if its still adequate for gaming and should stay so for at least a couple years. What is a good laptop for general game development with a budget of 500 - 1k € ? Posted: 28 Apr 2021 02:21 AM PDT I'm an indie game dev and while it doesn't come up often, I'd like to take my projects with me occassionally. I'm also currently studying so group projects can get difficult as well from time to time. I've been looking through a bunch of guides and reviews for days and I just don't know enough about hardware to really make a good call. I use all kinds of software, such as Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, Illustrator, Godot, Unity, Node-Red and OpenGL. I just don't know enough about hardware to find which specs are enough within my budget. So far I've seen three devices show up again and again: HP Pavilion 15 (900€)
Acer Aspire 3 (600€)
Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14 (719€)
My main uncertainty is if I need a dedicated GPU (which I think I do because of the rendering and game engines I work with) and how much saving I can get away with because I really don't want to spend more than I have to. Out of these three, what would you say is the best, or do you have any other, better recommendation (that ships to / within Germany / the EU) for me to consider? Thanks in advance ^^ [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Apr 2021 02:00 AM PDT I'm going to start my MBA in the US this fall, but I'm currently in Europe. At the moment I'm using the laptop provided by my company but I'll have to give it back at the end of May and after that I need a laptop since I'll do a pre-MBA internship (in Italy) for a couple of months. I'm thinking about buying it now instead of waiting to go to the US and then buy it because here in Italy I have 22% discount on all laptops, so it's really cheap, even if I know that laptop prices are somewhat lower in the US compared to EU. Big question is: will I be able to use my EU laptop in US without issues? I'm thinking about charging (do I need only a US charger and that's it?), or compatibility issues with software. Posted: 28 Apr 2021 04:07 AM PDT Im looking for a new laptop for almost anything (programing, graphic, gaming, scholl etc.) I ended up with G3. It suits with my budget, has some decent specs and also i have good experiences with Dell and its high durability. But i have some doubts. Regardless of all positive reviews I heard that it has some problems with hinge. Are they that serious? I know that every single laptop in budget of 900$ will have some flaws but i couldn't find anything better. I also considered lenovo legion 5 or lenovo IdeaPad Gaming but some of my friends had levovo laptops and thay had some really bad experiences. Should i buy G3? [link] [comments] |

Laptop for an engineering student and some light gaming. BUDGET: 1500 - 1800 USD. United States Posted: 27 Apr 2021 10:22 PM PDT I need a new laptop for my engineering courses and some gaming too. Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 1500 - 1800 USD Are you open to refurbs/used? No, I'd like to get a full warranty if possible. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Build quality, performance, battery life, form factor. How important is weight and thinness to you? I definitely want a thin and light laptop. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13 or 15.6" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will use Solid Edge for CAD. I will do light gaming on it, nothing really that demanding but I want to be able to play AAA games smoothly. Some photoshop and Illustrator, but not that important. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? AAA games, medium settings is alright but not less than 50 fps. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I want good and reliable build quality. I currently have a MacBook Pro (and my first choice would be to buy an M1 MacBook if it wasn't for Solid Edge not being compatible). I want a thin but powerful laptop, with good finish quality and a good trackpad. I don't mind spending the extra that some brands have, as long as it is for good build quality and a reliable machine that will last throughout my whole carrer. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I had a Razer blade 15 in mind, but I'm open to hear your suggestions. Any help is really appreciated ;) [link] [comments] |

Need something durable, for working outside for long periods. Posted: 28 Apr 2021 12:23 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $600-$700 USD How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Being durable is my main concern, with long battery life as well, other than that I don't care if it's bulky, having an interchangeable battery would also be a plus. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Various GIS software like ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro Large Excel sheets with over 60k rows Light Photoshop If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality, I don't intend to drop it or swing it around, but it'll be in a hiking backpack for hours or days at a time. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I work outside for extended periods of time, this summer I'll be working at a National Forest, but I also work for my University, where I'm a research assistant making maps, so I'll be needing to do a lot of my work while I'm out backpacking for days at a time. I have a charging kit, but having an exchangeable battery would be a plus as well. I have a laptop for gaming, I just need something to do work on, it's fine if it's ugly and bulky. Edit: I'll also be camping out for a few days at a time, so there might be some extreme weather conditions. I'll be doing similar research in graduate school, so hopefully, it'll be durable enough to last through that. [link] [comments] |

"Gaming Laptop" fora person who *only* plays World of WarCraft: Classic Posted: 28 Apr 2021 12:02 AM PDT Hello Dear r/SuggestALaptop, It is me, the brainless 25-year-old willing to throw away her life for World of WarCraft: The Burning Crusade. I originally intended to buy the €2'200 ROG Strix 15 in order to play this shitty 15-year-old game. After consulting with a side of my brain that has "common sense" I decided that might not be the best decision. Therefore I come before you with a simple question, what shall this pathetic human buy? What do I require?

Posted: 27 Apr 2021 11:35 PM PDT I live in Canada and I've got my eyes on the G713QR-ES76 and have been monitoring its availability like a bird-watcher, checking every few nanoseconds. For its price point of $1,800 USD/$2,200 CAD is there anything I could get that would be better? Only for heavy gaming and even more heavy essay writing.
