Someone tell me if this is legit or not Posted: So I don't wanna pay 100$+ for a windows key and found a free key on this random website guide thing, and it works, its legit, but when I press ok to put in the key, it gives me a prompt saying "To activate windows with this product key, this device will need to connect to your organization's activation service".......if I do this they won't be able to like go through my files and shit and get ransomware on me or some shit right? Bc I don't want my computer to be connected and networked. [link] [comments]
Posted: Alrighty everyone. First post here and its a rant about windows update. It gets funny so just hang in there. My laptop has both integrated and dedicated graphics cards. Today, Windows update said "Oh look! A properly working computer! No for long." Windows update flashed a vBios that was incorrect for my iGPU. Not good. Laptop turned on and booted, but neither internal or external displays would work. I sat stumped thinking my laptop was gone. Windows update had improperly flashed a bios to my machine before, and did it again in a much worse way this time. After hours of thought, my mind sparked. Being a Virtual Reality enthusiast, I plugged in my Quest 2 and enabled oculus link (Oculus's software enabling PCVR on Q2's). I then proceeded to open Bigscreen beta (a vr media sharing platform), and downloaded TeamViewer. From there I set up unattended access, account linking, etc... now from my phone I was able to see login and admin prompts without guessing, and was able to perform everything else from within the headset. I scrambled to find my 3/31/2019 bios backup, and refreshed using AMITools. You owe me big time Bill Gates... Tl;dr : windows update flashed wrong vBios, used Oculus quest and TeamViewer to refresh backup. [link] [comments]

Opening Windows File Explorer KILLS Internet Posted: While watching Resource Monitor opening the Windows Explorer on the latest version of W10 causes the internet to completely stop for a few seconds before resuming. Tried almost everything I found on Google before coming here. I'm using a shitty USB NIC, but I doubt that's the root of the problem. Anyways it's really annoying and I'm not sure what to do. Posted: My Windows 10 home OS came on my 200ish gb ssd and I'd like to migrate it to my new much faster and larger storage 1 tb Samsung 970 evo+, I've tried alot of softwares but they all cost money, is their any way I could transfer it without having to buy some subscription? thanks [link] [comments]
Will upgrading to Windows 10 Education free up my Home license to use in a different system? Posted: To elaborate on the title, I have a personal Windows 10 Home license (not OEM) that has been activated since I built my machine a couple of years ago. I am now attending an institution that allows me to upgrade to Windows 10 Education for free. Will doing so "free up" my current license to use in a new system, should I decide to build one? Thanks! Help logging into windows, not accepting password for Windows profile. Posted: Now, I understand this is probably a taboo subject, but this computer has been sitting for several years and I need it working. I can probably just reset it, but I would like to keep my data. That said. I can proof with a video that it's my computer, connected to my microsoft account, and that I can log into my microsoft account. I'm 99% sure that's the password it should be using. I can log into my child's account on the same computer, but it has parental controls on it, so I can't access every folder, so backing up some files becomes tough..... I can get into the registry, which I'm trying to do currently to make sure my boot isn't corrupt, but I'm not 100% certain I know what I'm doing. I'm not sure if anyone is willing to help, but this is really frustrating and I'm a bit over my head. Edit: I cannot seem to edit the registry. I cannot seem to boot into safe mode with shift and restart. I can't seem to do crap but log into a check of account. Anyone have any idea of how to force windows to recheck for my windows account password. It clearly shows my email is linked to my account, still willing to provide proof of being logged into microsoft and my email with a video if asked. I don't want anyone thinking I'm trying to break into a computer - I just want windows to accept the freaking correct password! Thanks again. [link] [comments]

how to get back the default version of onedrive Posted: I uninstalled onedrive not thinking i'd need it again but now when I reinstall it it's a different version that dosent have a onedrivee folder or start on startup. How do I get the default back? [link] [comments]
Posted: My current gaming pc was a super budget build, I reused some parts from an old Gateway computer. Since I built it I am slowly changing out the old parts and I'm about to change out the HDD that's only job is to run Windows. So where is the Windows product key saved to? To my understanding it isn't saved to the HDD it's saved to somewhere on the motherboard. So if I was to have a fresh install of windows on a new HDD would the product key be automatically applied? Alternatively, I was also thinking of just doing a OS migration from the old one to the new one but that would require me to remove my extra drive, that contains my games, to migrate and then reinstall it after migration, making me do extra work so I would rather do it the other way if that is possible. Would the first way be possible? If not is the second way the best way to do it? And if not what would be the easiest way to do it without having to buy a new product key. Thanks in advance and sorry if this post is a little confusing, I have a hard time putting my thoughts into words lol. [link] [comments]
PC keeps restarting during Windows installation Posted: Hi, I'm trying to install windows 10 on a new HDD. I got the usb boot device set up but when I try to start the windows installation software the windows logo flashes for a second and then the pc restarts. Any ideas what could be causing this? Posted: Hi, i've been trying for a very long time to acctivate smb on my windows machine and for the longest time i had authentication problems until i finally found a tutorial that advised creating an offline account just for this and IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY the 1st time. so the question is is there a better way of doing this ? Slow internet speeds on only one device Posted: The wifi on every one of my devices is going the correct speed, but my laptop has had a very slow connection. I have tried all I can think of; resetting the router, reinstalling network drivers, turning off my anti virus, uninstalling programs that may be slowing it down. I thought maybe booting into safe mode with networking might show me the internet speed without any programs slowing it down, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get the wifi network to appear. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
Hello all. Does anyone know how to enable S4 sleep state on Windows 10? Thanks all! Why aren't there more developers embracing the Windows 10 Fluent design? Posted: It always seems like there are a ton of apps out there that just don't feel like they fit in with Windows 10. It's always the little things, Apps are still shuffled into folders (Steam placing games in it's own folder) when they should be in the root of the Start Menu folder (I actually purchased Start10 from Stardock since it was getting really annoying having to click through different folders), and it seems that some apps aren't even added at all. For example, the Epic Games launcher doesn't create Start Menu shortcuts for games you downloaded, instead creating desktop URL's. Some other things I just don't understand are why more apps aren't using toast notifications, it seems like most apps are still stone solid on using balloons. Which sucks since Windows 10 has it's own built in notification center, which makes it easier to view one if you miss a notification. And also it's own do not disturb called focus assist (Which I won't blame Steam for using its own notifications in games since focus assist is configured by default to turn on while in a fullscreen app, which seems kinda dumb to me, since I personally wish to receive discord notifications (An app which is configured to use Toast)) Now I understand that there is still probably a small community of Windows 8.1/7 users out there, but aren't most people out there using Windows 10 now? I mean, yeah, Windows 10 has had the (2nd) most radical changes to it's interface in it's 25 year history as an operating system. But it was also released 5 years ago. So why are there big apps like Steam, Origin, and Razer Synapse with interfaces and functions that don't feel like they truly belong on Windows? [link] [comments]

Posted: Hello, I have woken up to being told I needed to change my password as it was not complex enough, I changed the password and now are trying to change it back, I have disabled the requirement in Local Group Policies yet it still persists. Apparently Group Policies can resolve it since it could be to do with the domain controller however I can't open gpmc, saying that it doesn't exist.gpu [link] [comments]
Is Wox a good program for quick searches? Posted: So, I want to increase my productivity. I want to learn to type quickly and move fast through the programs without a mouse. I am making this post because I saw that Wox is very good for such things but I am not sure how good it is for the pc. I mean, I saw that I have to download a lot of files for it and I don't want it to consume a lot. I wouldn't want to use Cortana because it uses Bing and I, personally, like to use Google and I haven't heard much good things about Cortana. Is Wox good for Windows 10? From what I've been looking for it seems to be the best Alfred (a Mac program) alternative. [link] [comments]
Windows scrolling automatically Posted: Like the title says, my pc is perpetually ghost-scrolling (to the right). I've unplugged my keyboard, mouse, controller, reinstalled drivers, booted in safe mode. Nothing is working and I can't find a solution for it online. [link] [comments] |
