MalwareBytes says a "Phone" app on my Android phone is infected with PUP.Riskware.HiddenAds.YRHX

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:54 PM PST

MalwareBytes says a "Phone" app on my Android phone is infected with PUP.Riskware.HiddenAds.YRHX and wants me to remove it. Under Settings > Apps & Notifications I've got two "Phone" apps: one with the phone icon (4.90 MB) and the other with a weird icon of a half-disc with eyes and antennae (264 MB), which is the app MalwareBytes wants me to remove.

If I remove it, will I lose all of my contacts, numbers, etc.?

    Risk of Flashing Custom Rom

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:17 PM PST

How much risk is there to flashing a custom rom?

I have a Pixel 4a and am thinking about flashing CalyxOS

I cant afford to hard brick it and would doubt my abilities to recover a soft brick

I have installed arch before so im not a beginner

Are old SIM cards of any use or value?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:36 AM PST

I used to have Sprint and still have a SIM card from an old phone from before I switched. It is just sitting around and I am thinking of throwing it away but I wanted to find out first if these can be useful to anyone? What can you do with an old SIM card? Who uses these?

Asus Zenfone 2 suddenly stopped working after not using it for months can I still fix it?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:59 PM PST

I brought a new phone thats why I stopped using it and when I check it, it suddenly stopped working and can't open it.

I've been using my Asus Zenfone 2 for 4 years. It has broken power button but it doesnt bother me much since I can double tap it to open anyway. Other than that it doesnt have any problem, screen is ok no cracks, it was charging properly and it didnt got wet either since its only sitting on my desk for months but I had to use it now.

How can I open it? I've seen tutorials on youtube but it requires power button, I wonder if theres other way without using power button to open it.

I wanna know if I can still open it myself before going to a repair shop.

Are there any messaging apps with any of these features?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 04:01 PM PST

I dont expect to find a single app with all these features, but atleast 1 would be nice.

    • text forwarding to auto forward a text i get from a specific number to another phone. i know i had an app that did this once before, but i cant find it. I thought it was pulse but i cannot find the feature.

    • pin conversation to notifications. Ive never seen this before, but id really like to be able to quick send to an active conversation without the notification clearing.

    • tell me if the number is their work or personal idk if this has to do more with the phone im using or what, but if i have multiple numbers saved to a single account even if i go to convo details on any app ive tried, it just shows the number with no context. From there i have to memorize the number and check my contacts to find out which of their phones im texting. I just want the app to tell me which phone it is without having to go to contacts.

Idk if it matters but im using a oneplus 7t pro. Android 10. T-mobile. Ive tried default app, google messenger, textra, pulse.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:51 PM PST

Saw an add for a privacy/security app called jumbo. Made some very interesting claims. Decided to read some reviews but when i looked it up the 1st thing i saw was in app purchases so I didn't bother. Has anyone tried this app out yet?

Why does the Google assistant design keep changing?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:32 PM PST

At seemingly random intervals, the Google Assistant on my device changes from the new Pixel bar design to the old design and back. Neither the Google nor Assistant apps get updated in between the time it changes. Why does this happen?

How to know your android phone name, version, ram, storage and so on

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:16 AM PST

I keep receiving notifications in Google Play even though in Settings > Device > Notifications I have Google Play Store and Google both set to 'OFF'!

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:17 PM PST

The most recent notification I've received in Google Play is (I'm not kidding) "Turn on important notifications You can choose which notifications you receive, such as security updates, in Settings". In other words, I'm receiving a notification telling me I need to turn on notifications.

None of this makes any sense. Does anyone know what's going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[Tech Support] [Android] I have Samsung A21 smartphone. When I type on the keyboard some reason the swipedown notification bar gets triggered at varying levels interrupting my typing and sometimes worst

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:03 PM PST

I dont know what could be the cause of this. I had the phone for about 8 months now. I even took the screen protector off just in case it was phantom triggering the notification bar. But that didn't fix anything.

Moments ago while I was typing on reddit, I noticed my key presses were being interrupted almost every 3rd or 4th letter press, when I noticed the notification bar going haywire as if it was being touched. Then suddenly while I was typing, the whole notification bar came all the way down as if I did a full swipe down from the top of the screen. I almost accidentally clicked a app notification because of its sudden randomness.

Right now as I am typing this. Its not doing it right now. But this happens way too often , especially for a newer phone. Anybody have any idea whats going on?

Edit: I want to add some additional information that may be a clue. Sometimes the phone screen will stop being intractable at all, or only allow the notification bar to drag up or down. So imagine you on the browser and suddenly all key presses stop. Can't press the android buttons (home, menu, back) because nothing works, but the notification bar can still be dragged down like normal. Its weird. Doesn't happen all the time, but still happens about a few times a week.

Also want to note: my phone doesn't have screen cracks or anything like that.

[help] my phone has lost functionality and I don't know why

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:59 PM PST

    Hello knowledgeable people.

So about two weeks ago my phone updated itself. I have a Motorola android one that it is almost exactly a year old. What happened after the update you ask?

    Well to begin a list.

I lost the use of my home button, or any gestures that my replicate the function of it.

I lost the ability to quickly switch between apps via either gesture or button function.

I lost access to mobile data, it turned itself off and cannot be turned on.

I lost the ability to get notifications. The sound is played but I am not seeing anything on the swipe down screen.

With no notifications 100% of phone calls go straight to voicemail.

I no longer have the ability to take screen shots.

I cannot install any apps, everything gets trapped at pending on the Play store.

I am unable to turn on dark mode

The back button works as do corresponding gestures.

I can make outgoing telephone calls

I am unable to swipe down twice in order to access the quick menu

Cameras can take photos in both directions

Push to hold shortcuts variably work

I'm sure there are a few I've yet to discover but those are the main issues. They do render the phone mostly useless

    Please help me

I can provide more information as requested

Is it possible to mount a network drive as a regular folder?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:54 PM PST

    here's my situation.

I have tons of music on my home computer. I want to access them on my phone.

The best music players on android (poweramp, black player) only play local files.

I can access the folder through a normal file explorer app (cx, etc.)..but obviously no music player will see it.

Is there a way to mount this network share (smb) to look like a "normal" folder in the music player?

    Thanks!

    Screen rotating upside down?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:39 PM PST

    Hey all,

My phone recently updated to Android 11 and ever since then the screen keeps flipping upside down. For example, if I'm using an app and I put the phone down, the screen sometimes will rotate upside down in portrait mode. But the thing is, I always have auto-rotate turned off. I hate it. I don't know how to make it stop doing this.

    Reference info: I'm using a galaxy s10+.

    This occurs for any app.

I'm not entirely sure what "rooted" means, but this is a phone I bought from the carrier and I have never done anything to it.

MIUI vs EMUI; Is it worth the switch?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:37 AM PST

I currently have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro (6/64). While I'm fine with the hardware of the phone, the software (MIUI 12) is absolutely driving me crazy.

Like, for example, when you have MIUI Optimizations enabled, your icons look perfectly normal and shaped. But the terrible background process management comes in and closes all your apps no matter what you do (Disabling power saving from both MIUI settings and the hidden settings, enabling the automatic startup thing, locking the app in the background etc.). But when you disable MIUI optimizations, apps no longer (maybe rarely) close, but the home screen icons look like garbage (Some older apps have custom shaped icons, and no the "Default icon shape" option does not fix it). Also, when you enable dark mode, MIUI automatically forces app backgrounds to be black since MIUI 12, making some apps look bad. Of course you can toggle it from settings, but it's super annoying having to do it every time a new app is installed. Also, I used to have random disconnect & instantly reconnect issues with the Wi-Fi too. But I managed to fix it mostly with a Play Store app called Connection Stabilizer Booster. And even though I fixed it, my Wi-Fi is still not great.

Due to all of these annoyances, I was thinking about exchanging my phone with my brother's phone. His phone is a Huawei P20 (Not P20 Pro or Lite, regular P20). It has 4 GB RAM (2 GB less compared to my Redmi), but double the storage (128 GB). Both phones have about the same SoC/CPU performance. His phone currently runs EMUI 10 I believe, but not exactly sure. Also, his phone also has a far smaller battery (3400 mAh vs 4500 mAh)

Now, I barely play any games on my phone (I use social media more), and I'm completely fine with having slightly worse performance on games. What I was actually wondering is, is it worth doing the switch? Is EMUI as buggy as MIUI? Does EMUI have the annoyances I listed? As I barely used EMUI before I know little to nothing about it. So I would like to hear the opinions of EMUI users.

And by the way, no, unfortunately flashing custom ROM (Pixel Experience etc.) is not an option for now. My country's Xiaomi distributor clearly states custom roms void warranty. So I can't flash for a year (my warranty expires in 2022).

TL;DR: Hate the software of my Redmi Note 8 Pro, and want to switch my phone with a slightly worse phone (Huawei P20) with EMUI 10 just for a better software experience. Was wondering if it's worth it or not.

How to block apps from reading settings

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:38 PM PST

I recently flashed ArrowOS on my poco x3 and I love it. Though after every update, usb debugging gets enabled and I can't make contactless payments with my banking app unless I clear it's data. Is there a way I can prevent the app from reading my settings?

Disable bluetooth redial function without fully disabling phone controls?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:35 PM PST

Is there a way to prevent bluetooth headsets redial functionality? I don't think I've ever once used this feature on purpose, but I do it accidentally somewhat frequently. Disable phone access in the bluetooth settings works, but that also disable any google assistant functionality and the ability to answer incoming calls.

Alternatively, if the Android API gives apps the ability to intercept and suppress bluetooth events, I'd be interested in making something to do that.

    disappearing notification from lock screen

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:07 PM PST

    Hi

I've recently bought Xiaomi redmi note 9 pro and in few days of use I find out that notifications disappear from lock screen after I unlock my phone once. (even without opening notification bar)

I've also tested another phone with android 9 (Huawei nova 3i) and it was same as this phone.

My previous phone is LG K10 LTE (Android 6) and there is no problem with it.

Is there any solution to fix this?

Is there a way to hide or remove data usage of specific apps?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:51 PM PST

So as explained in the title, I was wondering since there are alot of app hiders out there and if you use internet within the application itself it will still display the data usage in the settings. Is it possible with maybe rooting or a custom software that can be developed to hide the usage?

    Thanks in advance.

Pixel 2XL "Your device is corrupt..." Red warning, never messed with the OS. Options?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:43 PM PST

I have a pixel 2xl that recently started having this problem. In the last month or so I migrated everything to my new S21 Ultra. This required downloading Samsung apps for transferring the data over USB-C. After that I left the phone unchanged and at most maybe it died two times from letting the battery run out. Now in the last week when I restart it I get this red warning about my device being corrupt and can't be trusted.

What are my options to bring this thing back to being "trusted."

Control via Internet (not on same wifi) and help my mother on her first android phone (Galaxy A50) ???

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:04 PM PST

Ok, due to the pandemia right now, I can't visit my mother like I would normally, she finally just got her first android phone, she's 67 yrs old and has multiple health issues, she has an ipad that I can't remote control or anything from my house (damn security of Apple are idiots), but I'm nearly 100% sure we can control an android phone or tablet from my PC so I can install apps, add icons to her main screen and such, the main issue is most apps I've seen requires the android phone to be on the same wifi network for this to work, so I'm looking for a solution to control her new android phone (Galaxy A50) from my PC or from my android phone over the Internet, I'm used to apps to help people on PC (I'm a helpdesk tech), so I use remote control software like anydesk and Teamviewer often, but it doesn't seem they allow control of android phones from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
