MSI GS66 (RTX2060) vs XPG Xenia (1660Ti - same as MAG15) Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:38 PM PST I was about to buy XPG Xenia with 1660Ti (same as eluktronics Mag-15) but then I noticed that MSI GS66 with RTX2060 had a huge discount. There are some things I like about the Xenia. ~0.5lb lighter, magnesium chassis, keyboard is semi mechanical, i think it looks slightly better, 1tb ssd, 1 extra usb port. GS66 has rtx2060, the same class cpu but 1 generation newer (i7-10750H vs i7-9750H), and of course $150 cheaper. What wisdom do you have for me? [link] [comments] |

Laptop for architecture and everyday life Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:04 AM PST Hello, my first post here. I'm looking for a laptop for renders and CADs usage, but I would prefer nVidia GPUs over Quadros. I live in the Czech Republic, but going for exaple to Germany to but it wouldn't be a problem. The laptop's specs and criterias are: Budget: 25k CZK (1,1k USD) (960 €), not specific somewhere around those numbers OS: Windows Screen: 1920x 1080 (if possible 2560x1600), matt CPU: min. Intel i7 or Intel i9 (or similar) GPU: min. GeForce GTX 1060, 4GB VRAM (or similar) RAM: 16GB SSD: 512GB HDD: 1TB will do Sidenotes: also would prefer backlit keyboard (doesn't have to be crazy colors, white will do. also a numerical keybord), weight and size doesn't matter that much. would like a brand new. Thanks for any suggestions in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2021 02:35 AM PST Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 3000BND - Brunei. This budget is flexible but I would very much prefer to stay underneath it. I'm aware most probably haven't even heard of Brunei, I dont mind US prices for 2500USD Are you open to refurbs/used? Prefferably not they are hard to find here How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I'm mostly looking for performance battery life and long term use. With the long term being most important, hopefully a laptop that can last me until end of university (4 years) How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Not really, I have a slight preference for bigger screens though Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming - Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, I quite like open world games. I enjoy fps like csgo and R6 as well but Id think if it can run open world it can run fps games. Programming - I use mainly python and C languages and am hoping to go into game development If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? At least 60fps, 1080p and high /ultra settings though if it's asking too much for the price I'm fine with mid as well Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard quality would be preffered Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. If possible Im looking for a i7 10th generation (AMD equivalent is fine too), 16GB of RAM and RTX 2070 Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Laptop for studying Data Analyst Posted: 01 Feb 2021 04:10 AM PST Hello, my sister is going to study a Data Analyst course and she needs a new laptop. I don't know much about what softwares that DA needs but I'm assuming it's all about Python, R, SQL and Excel. I shortlisted two laptops:
The main difference is Ryzen and Intel CPU that I don't know which is better for those aforementioned softwares. Which one should I buy? Thank you very much. [link] [comments] |

List which programs/games you desire to run. I will be gaming frequently, and doing amateur photo/audio editing wih programs such as GIMP, Audacity, and Musescore If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? Gaming laptop or productivity laptop Posted: 31 Jan 2021 10:36 PM PST Hi guys, a week or so my laptop suddenly died, and I'm looking for a new one. My old laptop was a Lenovo y400, it didn't work for gaming anymore, but the i7 and the nvidia 750m really helped me getting through college. I'm a casual gamer, I don't play that much anymore, but when I do, I like AAA games such as warzone. Also, I'm a engineer, and I'm specializing in CAD software like Solidworks, Inventor, Catia and Nx. I'm looking for a laptop that can handles those CAD programs above (I'm a medium lever user), and some gaming, I don't mind graphics that much. With everything in mind, I have two options right now, buying the MSI GS66 10SE from Best buy for 1099 USD or getting the Asus Zenbook, which has an Nvidia Mx350 for 599 USD. I don't know if the Asus will be enough for CAD software as well some light gaming, or if the MSI would be an overkill for what I need. I'd rather save some money if I can. Either way I would be selling my ps4, so any game I'd like to play would be on the laptop. P.S. I need mobility, so a PC is not an option. [link] [comments] |

I originally wanted to get the ACER ASPIRE 7 GAMING A715-41G, this one, but I can't find it in stock anywhere and I'm not too sure if it's good. I'd appreciate any help! [link] [comments] |
Budget Laptop for CAD and Light Gaming Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:27 AM PST Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Rs. 60,000 - 75,000 Indian Rupees ( ~800 - 1000 USD) Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance > Build Quality > Battery Life How important is weight and thinness to you? Not Important Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15-16 inch Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. CAD, (Solidworks, AutoCAD, NX, Catia, Ansys(in the future) , Solidedge, Illustrator, Photoshop,) , Programming (Python etc). I'm not very proficent at all of these but I'll be getting good and I would be using this laptop for a long time. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Games (COD, Battlefield, CS GO, GTA), Settings and FPS not extremely high but not very low either Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I have taken a liking to Lenovo Legion 5i/Y540 (I like the look)(i5 processor with 8GB ram, NVIDIA GTX 1650). Those who are already using these devices please tell me your experiences or suggest better devices if you think so. How far can these laptops be maxed out to etc? [link] [comments] |

Acer Nitro 5 vs Asus TUF fx505 Posted: 31 Jan 2021 10:47 PM PST Would like to hear some opinions regarding the better choice between Acer Nitro 5 vs Asus TUF fx505. I will use it for some light work stuff and gaming in general. Ryzen 5 3550H + GTX 1650 is the specs for both laptops. Since they have pretty much the same specs, what do you think would one make it better than the other (in terms of display, keyboard, cooling, durability, etc)? Some pros and cons would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Laptop for School and Entertainment Posted: 01 Feb 2021 04:39 AM PST Hello, I am looking for a budget laptop (600 USD) is my budget, though I am flexible. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE I will need it for school mostly and what I'm looking for is a 15 inch laptop with a good screen, good battery preferably and for it to be portable and modern looking. I'll be happy to hear any suggestions. To be clear, I am not looking for refurbed/used products I live in Israel I might also do some photo editing on Lightroom and I would also like to have the option to edit videos on Sony Vegas if I need to. As I've mentioned I'm looking for a portable laptop for school so weight and thinness is very important to me. A touch screen isn't necessary but I'm open to suggestions anyway I will likely not be gaming on it since my budget won't get any crazy specs, though if it could run minecraft decently that would be nice and overwatch as well though I realise that is probably a bit fat fetched :) The laptop I've been looking at lately is the Asus Vivobook 15 Something I like about this laptop is how it has the Ergolift hinge feature and the backlit keyboard, I also heard it has a matte finish on its screen which apparently helps with viewing angles? If anyone could clarify whether this actually works that would be great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B086QZSLDH/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 I love how it has slim bezzels and it seems to have pretty promising specs as well, any opinions on this laptop/suggestions about other laptops will be greatly appreciated :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:46 PM PST Q: Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: A: $500, but I can go a little over. Q: Are you open to refurbs/used? A: Yes. Q. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? A: The only thing I really care about here is battery life. I guess 3-4 hours is fine. As for performance, I won't be playing the most advanced games, but I'll address that further below. No Macs. Q. How important is weight and thinness to you? A: Not at all. Q: Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. A: At least 12 inches. I'm mostly going to be connecting it to my TV anyways. Q: Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. A: Adobe Premiere pro, Microsoft word/powerpoint/etc. Q: If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? A: I'd like to emulate up to anything up to gen 6 plus Wii with no lag. The most advanced PC games I'm looking to play are Minecraft, Fallout: NV, valve classics like Half Life, Sims 3, and I'd like to try the Dark Souls games on PC for the mods, but I don't know if that's unreasonable. Oh, I'd also like to try Phasmophobia, if possible. I don't play a lot of games put out by big companies. I like Indies and classics, so I don't need anything too advanced, I think. The lowest FPS I think I could go would be around 20, but 30 is more preferable. I'm not too picky. Q: Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A: It needs an HDMI port so I can hook it to my Roku TV . Q: Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. A: I don't think I have any. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Looking for a good overall laptop Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:26 AM PST Hi I've been looking for a good "over all" laptop for music making and maybe some gaming. But mostly for "Studio one" Would be nice to have Intel i7 or amd ryzen 7 16gb ram ish My budget is around 1000$dollars. [link] [comments] |
Opinion about Acer Aspire 5, i5, 1 TB SSD, 8 GB RAM? Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:22 AM PST I'm curious to know what people think of this Acer Aspire 5 with 8 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, i5. There are many five star reviews but also a number of one star reviews. The cost is £680 which is $930 (USD). The specs are exactly what I need and I know that Acer and Aspire is a popular brand and make. I'm just wary of the negative reviews for what - for me - is quite an expensive laptop. Posted: 31 Jan 2021 08:20 PM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $3000 USD (this is not my money. It's the university's money that comes with my scholarships specifically for buying a computer. I can't get the difference in cash, so there is no benefit to my saving any of it. Might as well spend all 3k or close to it) Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Touchscreen would be nice but not a dealbreaker without How important is weight and thinness to you? Nothing crazy thick Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13in min probably more around 15-16in preferred Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. AutoCAD for my engineering classes, Minecraft, really large excel files for data work If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Just a bit of minecraft but I'm not too picky about any game stuff Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Touch screen would be nice but not a deal breaker without Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Like I said I really might as well spend all 3k. I like apple products because it would sync well with my phone and iPad but also I know AutoCAD runs better on PC so I'm kinda undecided. Maybe I could try some sort of dual boot? My bf has a Lenovo and I don't know anything about those either but they look nice. Any advice helps! [link] [comments] |
Future accounting/finance student would a new MacBook Air work? Budget $1000 Posted: 31 Jan 2021 06:08 PM PST I've been looking at the new MacBook Air or something like the xps 13. I have used a mac the last 4 years of high school and like them a lot but I am wondering if there is a better laptop for the money and if I should use windows instead of mac in college. I also do not intend on doing much gaming on this machine [link] [comments] |
