Is Poco M3 really a great leap in the ultra budget segment?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 10:00 AM PST

I don't know if this is the right subreddit to post this thought I had, and I also don't know if I am the first one to realize this so here it goes.

The hype around the Poco M3 was surreal. People were going crazy of how it was such a high value phone at such a low price. I was excited too, because I ain't rich :) So I decided that I'd buy it when it launches in my country.

It has released now (as the redmi 9 power). But I've noticed something. We all know how xiaomi makes ultra competitive phones in the budget segment and how it seems to push that with every budget phone, right? Or is it really the case?

Poco M3 will cost anywhere from $150-$200 depending on where you live. Two years ago, a similar phone released at the same price, the redmi note 8. Actually it was cheaper for the same ram/rom configuration where I live. Now let's get to the similarities. (source:gsmarena)

    Poco M3 6.53" FHD+ IPS LCD (395 ppi) SD 662 48MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP 8MP front Gorilla Glass 3, Plastic back 198g UFS 2.1/2.2 storage 6000mAh 18W fast charging

    Redmi Note 8 6.3" FHD+ IPS LCD (409 ppi) SD 665 48MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP 13MP front Gorilla Glass 5, Glass back 190g eMMc storage 4000mAh 18W fast charging

Redmi Note 9 went a bit higher in the budget segment, so basically Redmi Note 8 got replaced with the Redmi 9 Prime and the Poco M2, and then it got replaced with a note 8 remake having a 6000mAh battery :/ And yet, the note 8 still has some specs that might be slightly better.

Redmi previously used to deliver ultra competitive budget phones without really raising the price of the successor a lot, but the improvement in the $100 - $200 segment seems really underwhelming.

I love xiaomi for creating such great low end phones, but this looks like a disappointment tbh. What's funnier is rivals have still not caught up.

    Yeah that's about it.

Air purifier 3C vs 3H what's the difference?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 08:51 PM PST

Hi, I want to get a Xiaomi air purifier and the 3C and 3H models seems to be right for my apartment size, however, I can't figure out what the difference really is between the two. The 3H is a little bit more expensive, they have the same size and similar coverage area. Anyone know what is the difference and which one is best? Thanks.

12.0.3 | is this a bug or an attempt for something?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 04:42 PM PST

so I've updated my redmi note 7 to the MIUI global 12.0.3 stable update, and first thing I notice upon boot is that the notification shade, instead of blurring the background turns into an ugly gray non transparent color. i really hope this is a bug because I absolutely hate it when compared to the modern looking old version blur. i would attach a screenshot but i can't lol

Is there any way to use MIUI but remove the Mi Security app?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 07:59 PM PST

Hate the idea of having anything related to Avast and MIUI's cleaner app. Still have to wait 100+ hours for my bootloader unlock and even if I were to flash Xiaomi.EU, is there any way I can remove Mi Security? I've heard that removing it will cause a soft brick.

Looking for [device driver] for Mi Curved Gaming Monitor 34"

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 07:31 PM PST

Unable to increase the refresh rate to 100/120/144Hz without constant flickering.

Windows installs an antiquated "Generic PnP Monitor" driver, dated 21/6/2006, ver: 10.0.19041.488.

Connected to RTX 2070 SUPER, I've tried changing DP cables and switching ports on both ends.

I contacted my regional customer service and this is what I got:

[...] we are not selling our products through our global website so we have no way to provide you with the kind of driver. It is recommanded that you should contact your seller/dealler for that.

I very much doubt Amazon/retailers have the solution..

Is Mi Note 10 Lite Android 11 update good?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 04:16 AM PST

I am currently downloading V12.1.1.0.RFNMIXM (Android 11) update. But heard that so many people have complaints about it (about gestures, it was beta version I think). Is it worth to update it now?

Looking for a pro tablet, heard rumours of the Mi Pad 5 dropping around June this year. Is there any confidence in this claim? Should I hold out for this tablet or look elsewhere? Proud owner of a Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Wifi switch between 2.4ghz and 5ghz

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 02:35 PM PST

Hi, There are multiple routers in my residence and some are 2.4ghz and others 5ghz . The problem is my phone keeps switching between 5ghz and 2.4ghz . I've used wifi analyzer and I could see all the routers around me. They all have the same name and they are all close to me like 5m for the 2.4ghz 6m for the 5ghz ect... Do you have a solution to force use the 5ghz routers only ? Or to use a specific router ? ( I don't have the permission to do anything to the routers) so the solution must uses the phone . I have a redmi note 7 with miui 12

    Thank you for your help

Since the last update that was two days ago, notifications are horrible, they don't fit their respective cards, don't group anymore.

How can I safely rollback to previous version ?

    Thanks
