(Italy) Looking for a gaming laptop mid/high range to substitute my dead Razer Blade 14 (2015) Posted: 29 Jan 2021 03:12 PM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
2500€ (less is better)
No
Build quality is important, performance should be good, but it doesn't necessarily have to be extreme. Battery life should be around 5/6hrs while not gaming.
Very important. I will mainly use it for work (Excel, PowerPoint, Word,... you got it) and I used to travel quite a bit (and hopefully I will again at some point in time).
15''
I do a bit of photoediting with lightroom and some gaming, mainly moba.
League of legends, Flight Simulator, Star Citizen (but maybe it will come out when Nvidia will present rtx 90xx). High settings?
I'm used to having a 3200x1800 screen, so I'd like to have AT LEAST a WQHD resolution. I would like the laptop to look professional (like my current Razer, apart from the green snake). But more importantly I am looking for a laptop with a good cooling system.
I don't want to buy another Razer because, even if I've kept it for more than 5 years, it has had issues since day 1 (battery leakage). I didn't send it back because I've bought it in the US, but I live in Italy. I'm currently looking at XMG pro 15 or neo 15 (2021), but I don't know if there is anything better in terms of portability and/or value for money. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 03:36 AM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Q: Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: A: £0-£1500, max in GBP — would prefer it to be under £1000 if possible Q: Are you open to refurbs/used? A: Yes, I love to buy refurbs when I can, especially if the cost is cut significantly lol Q. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? A: Don't want nor need a 2-1 or touch screen laptop, but performance and build quality (in terms of sturdiness) are really important to me, with battery life less so unless it's really REALLY crap Q. How important is weight and thinness to you? A: As long as the laptop performs well, I don't really care, but I'd prefer a thinner laptop, especially one with thinner bezels — my previous laptop was a Dell XPS 15 9570, if that can give you an idea of what I'm used to! Q: Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. A: 15 inches or above - 15.6" has suited me just fine! Q: Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. A: Yep - in terms of programs/games, it's mostly: — Overwatch — Black Desert Online — Dishonored — Horizon Zero Dawn — The Witcher — Fallout 4 and then a lot of indie games/visual novels! In terms of programs — Adobe Suite, generally but mostly just Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro Q: If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? A: Settings and FPS tend to go over my head a bit (severely dyscalculic), but I want to be able to run my games as smoothly as possible, with the highest graphics settings as I can. Q: Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A: - Would prefer a good keyboard (comparable to Dell XPS 15 9570 typing experience)
Q: Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. A: Needs to be compatible with an Acer Nitro 27" VG271UP monitor! [link] [comments] |
Advice needed on durable laptop Posted: 30 Jan 2021 03:23 AM PST What laptop/computer for someone who'd completely accident prone? I have the worst luck with computers, they rarely last me more than a year. I bought a Lenovo L340 a few months ago. The other day, I tripped on the cable. Doing so I damaged the port and fried the motherboard. Previously, I had a HP which I dropped. I got it repaired, but it never worked the same. What computer is the most durable/long lasting? I spend a lot of time on my computer between work and free-time. I stream videos (Netflix and YouTube) and playing the Sims 3. [link] [comments] |
I'm Looking for Laptop (Home Use) with Targeted Specs below! Posted: 30 Jan 2021 02:42 AM PST Hi Geeks & Bros, Greeting, first of all! Thanks in advance. I'm Looking for a Laptop in Budget under ₹40K and targeting the Below described specs. Intel® Core™ i3-10110U Processor paired with 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM. Would be Nice to have a Compact 14inch Laptop. But no issue, all Suggestions are accepted. The Reason I'm stressing on 2133MHz RAM is that I have an 8GB Memory module in working condition from my Old Laptop. So, I can just use it in addition to the Existing one that comes on board in the New laptop. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 02:03 AM PST I've been wanting to get into laptop modding for quite some time now but I don't know what to get. I want a bare bones laptop that I could upgrade (CPU/GPU/ram/etc). I currently have a Toshiba kira from 2013 and I don't know if I should mod it or sell it and buy a new laptop to mod but if you guys have any suggestions for laptops feel free to post them in the comments below. (Also I am in NZ so tech is pretty overpriced here) [link] [comments] |

My friend wants a tiny powerhouse laptop, graphics and screen resolution don't matter. Posted: 29 Jan 2021 07:42 PM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
$1000 USD, but flexible both ways. United States.
Yes and no
build quality, form factor, performance, battery life
Very. Something the size and weight of the old 11-inch MacBook Air with modern hardware would be ideal.
The smaller the better (see below), and no more than 13.
Nothing that would put stress on an average modern computer.
N/A
Good keyboard, small, lightweight, built to last, no touch-screen

College laptop, light gaming. In love with the Microsoft Surface line. Posted: 29 Jan 2021 11:55 PM PST
$1000 +/-
I don't want to say no, but probably no.
That's a hard question to answer, I prioritize those all. Form factor is probably priority one, but everything else is a very close second.
High importance.
Small, 12-13 inches.
What I assume is light gaming; Hearthstone, Starcraft 1&2, maybe Minecraft.
See above, low settings are fine, as long as I won't damage the hardware by overheating it.
Good keyboard, reliable hardware. Touch Screen is not a priority, but preferred.
Briefly put, this will be a college laptop for an adult. I would like to be able to play some games on it, but that's not the priority. The price is a little flexible if the increase is worth it, as I expect to use this for 5-10 years. I'm infatuated with the Surface Pro 7 for its versatility and price ($700 for i5 10th gen, 8gb ddr4, 128gb SSD) and the Surface Laptop 3 for the same reasons but with better cooling and less fear of damaging it ($1000 for i5 10th gen, 8gb DDR4, 256gb SSD). Worth nothing, I chose the $1000 model over the $800 with a 128 SSD because I cannot stand the carpeted keyboard on that model. I also loved the idea of being able to write notes on the screen, having used the old HP tx2000 2-in-1 to take notes in school 10 years ago. And if I went with the Surface Pro, I might avoid the type-cover in favor of a small keyboard like one by Keychron. Battery life matters, but not so much when I expect I'll be near an outlet most of the time. And I understand there may be better options for the price point, which is why I'm here, but the above gives you an idea of where my head is at. [link] [comments] |

HP ENVY Desktop PC for music production? Laptop for School and Gaming, ~$1,500 (Australia) Posted: 29 Jan 2021 10:43 PM PST Hi! I am thinking of retiring my 2015 MacBook Pro for something that can actually run games, but also be fast and functional for school. I've looked at the Lenovo Legion 5, Dell G3, and Asia Zenbook, but am not sure which one would be best for my needs and am open to other suggestions. *Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: At most $1,500, preferably lower. *Are you open to refurbs/used? No *How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance>form factor>build quality>battery life *How important is weight and thinness to you? Lighter and thinner is better, but I don't think I'll be lugging this around. *Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A *Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. For school, all I really need is Zoom, Microsoft Word, PPT, and the ability to read and edit PDFs. Nothing intensive. For gaming, I play a lot of Age of Empires II (and want to play ranked), and also want to finally be able to play the AAA games I missed because I was using a Mac for so long. *If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Age of Empires II, Disco Elysium, The Witcher III, etc. I'm okay with medium/low settings and am not picky with FPS. *Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Don't need a touch screen, the only thing is that I really want a laptop that is low key. I really don't like the look of most gaming laptops, and want a normal laptop that can run games (if that's even possible). *Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. N/A Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Laptop similar to HP Pavilion gaming laptop 2015 Posted: 29 Jan 2021 08:53 PM PST Out of all the laptops I've had (shitty ones tbe), this one is by far the least shitty. It's only problem is its heavy weight and flimsiness. I love its wide display and its glowing keyboards, though I would be fine without the numpad. The speakers are pretty good too, giving me surround sound-like effect. Can you guys recommend me a laptop basing from those descriptions? Anything around its price point would be nice. looking for a laptop that is for productivity and light gaming ( 1200$) Posted: 29 Jan 2021 10:40 AM PST so my old razer laptop finally died, and I'm hoping to buy a new laptop soon, it's pretty much got to have a long battery life, good thermals and ( optional ) have one of the new AMD chips inside it, I'm happy to spend between 800-1200 USD. ill be using it for work and light gaming so that I could play GTA on medium, maybe low settings id be hoping for it to be 13 or 14inch seeing that it has to be portable because I have to get around a lot [link] [comments] |

Don't care Do you have a preferred screen size? 17" + Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? Light gaming, Blender (modelling), programming (Visual Studio), Game development (Unity, Unreal) I did have my eye on a few at PC Specialist (never used them before), but I have no clue about which to pick for the hard drive / SSD when configuring them. I read up on SSD's but it's a lot of technically stuff I have no clue about. https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/17-gaming-laptops/ I assume "1st Storage Drive" is generally where the OS will be installed? If so, what SSD do I need for that. Am looking at maybe 256GB. And for a second drive (1st M.2 SSD Drive according to the site) another SSD? No clue which though. 256GB should do. Is it worth paying for the better thermal paste? Is 16GB enough these days for RAM? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Looking for laptop for college, with preferably a tablet/stylus option for taking notes Posted: 29 Jan 2021 12:26 PM PST Im a college student and my laptop just broke. To replace it I was looking for a laptop that should be decently powerful, overall having good stats, and one important thing would be a tablet option, or something with a stylus mode, so that I can take notes more reliably. I never had a laptop like this, but I think it would be very helpful i think. It should also have overall good built quality, battery life, be relatively light (although thats not so important, and maybe be support video editing and maybe gaiming in some capacity, but again, thats not a priority. My budget is at something between 400 and maybe 800/850 €, what would you suggest? Do this kind of laptops even exist ,PThank you so much!k [link] [comments] |
